Do you regularly assault people and use your position within your job to try and bribe police officers? Whilst he won’t be sacked from his job he should be stripped of the captaincy.
Did you know that the legal definition of "assault" is as little as touching a police officer?

The court also heard that Maguire said 'f*** the police both inside and outside the station.

I think we can all agree this is quite clearly a setup and lies. I don’t think HM listens to N.W.A. or has a record in 26 years of acting like this.

- Today, Maguire's lawyer claimed in court that the footballer's sister Daisy was injected with a date rape drug by two mysterious Albanian men outside the bar the defendants were at.

Many people would be a lot more than slightly aggressive if plain clothed men tried arresting you after this just happened.
How would anyone know someones nationality just by looking at them? Albanian indeed. How would anyone know?
Unless they were in Albania jersies"!!

Not really helping Greece get it's tourism back on track ?

Particularly rich celebrity types who will seriously think twice about travelling there now - even if he's guilty

I still think Utd have been bloody stupid allowing a player to travel and publicly socialise in a high infection country
Or at least not go somewhere a lot more select - ie not somewhere rancid City fans are on hand to provide the aggravation.

Obviously a sham trial and off the scale levels of corruption, no surprise in that part of the world.

No doubt the boozed up group including Harry did some shitty things, after scumbags drugged his sister which mitigates it quite a bit. Then some scummy bent police turned up and failed to handle it properly. The court then promptly cover up for the police's failings. They get a nice fat payday to round it off. The end.

The same people who were laughing at Liverpool fans with Suarez years ago are probably the same now saying "He's been stitched up!"

Yep.
The "plain clothed police" who just happened to be at the scene.

Stinks of a set up.

It still feels like no details of what happened have actually been revealed. I'm far from being Maguire's biggest fan on the pitch but it does seem strange how hurried this process has been, and how they've slapped 4 charges on him without disclosing the incidents.

Unbelievable some of the comments. We need to get behind him and support him regardless.

There are a lot of people who agree with the sentiment, in fairness.

I think a lot of people from working class backgrounds will tell you what the police can be like.

This. Nicely summed up.

Are you a little hard of thinking to equate a racism charge in England, to a clear set up abroad?

Aggravated assault is the charge, though. It’s more than as little as touching a police officer.

Feet up at home.
By the letter of the law just touching a police person can count as "assault".

Assault doesn't have to be leaving someone in tatters at the bottom of some stairs.

Boozed up, you are also capable of saying some nonsense.

Am sure any decent lawyers will get him out of this with the right "fine", ironically a legal bribe!
This is very true. Assault can be nothing compared to Battery in this country anyway.

Yup, and I'm sure he has more than enough to appeal the matter.

Regardless of how corrupt their police force are or whether he was justified or not, the optics on this whole thing are still quite bad for the club despite however fans may feel

The club or Ole's hand will most likely be forced into taking some sort of punitive action

That’s the default position in this thread it seems. It’s been a bit weird seeing people in here deny any possibility of wrongdoing from Maguire and convincing themselves this was 100% Greek police scheming for a quick pay day. Even now, I doubt we’ll see any acknowledgement that it’s possible he’s not completely innocent. Yet we judged Liverpool fans for blindly sticking by Suarez :wenger:
It's because a trial cannot go that fast, and the video should have been allowed as evidence. Do you often see trials where you get the charges 2 hours before the trial? The order of things clearly shows something is messed up. This is not normal, simply put. So you can only doubt that due diligence is being properly done.

Sounds like some very bent behaviour going on there.

Why were plain clothed police in the area? Bit convenient.

Sounds like an absolute stitch up job

When?

You’re literally claiming this to be something that would occur if you went out on the lash regularly, leading to a simple slap on the wrist etc.. You couldn’t normalise the aggravated assault and bribery more if you tried.

I mean I know you’re saying it mostly in jest, or at least I hope , but I don’t think it’s right to play it down as a nothingness/every night on the lash occurrence.

The charges are serious, and should be treated as such. It may well be that something dodgy is at play here, but we have to take the guilty verdict right now and he has to be punished by the club accordingly, until any other evidence/developments arise. When/if they do then he can be handed back captaincy etc.

But until that moment, as a club, they can’t disrespect the judicial system of another country and effectively accuse them of lying by not punishing Maguire as if he is 100% guilty.
Honestly have a word with yourself.

You really think you can prove aggravated assault and bribery in a one day trial?

Some of yous have your panties in a bunch over nothing.

It sounds dodgy as feck. Lawyer asks for more time as he was only given the full list of charges two hours before and there was footage of them getting 'mistreated by police' outside the station and wanted to review it.

They went ahead with the trial anyway.

And as for this:

But prosecutors allege that one of the defendants shouted: "F***, f*** the police," before striking an officer.

Had they been listening to NWA all night?

Can't be that corrupt as they didn't even take Harrys bribes!
Ha ha!

Maguire should not have even allowed himself to be in that situation. Absolute stupidity. And it shows the players don't have anywhere near the same fear/respect they did with Fergie.

Ole will have to start laying down the law. Mr nice guy won't be enough to manage this situation. I wonder if he has it in his locker?

From Efsyn, one of Greece's biggest newspapers:

Eyewitness accounts of 4 different, and independent, bystanders disputed Harry Maguire, the accused, and his group's claims of innocence - while corroborating the accounts of the authorities.

The eyewitnesses were from 3 seperate groups. A mother and son from Germany, and Belgian woman and a local man.

All eyewitness statements painted Harry Maguire, and his codefendants, as the aggressors - which turned out to be key in the eventual 'Guilty' verdict.
I imagine more details will come out soon. A Greek poster on Reddit said that in all criminal trials, court transcripts are released within a few weeks.

Ole the nice guy is a myth that's been debunked a thousand times at this stage.

We do it when drunk, ones from abroad cause trouble representing their football clubs. Funny enough they are usually tanked up as well.
Some people do it. Massive generalisation to just say it’s a British thing. Cnuts will act like cnuts wherever they go.

It's literally 10 times more likely that the police were working with the scumbags who attacked his sister. They're genuinely that bad.

If he'd actually offered to bribe them, chances are we'd have never heard anything about this whole incident.
