Or they know the type who are those kind of pricks?

We all know the 'do you know who I am' bar fight players from stories in the media of people who have interacted with them and we hear nothing about Maguire other than he's a humble pleasant guy
Let me ask you this, what did you thought when you heard that Butt was involved in a domestic violence case? Wasn't Butt one of the nice guys before that?

It is strange but the court refused them additional time to get their defense together. I'm sure the appeal will be far more interesting. If true the drugging/injecting story may become a little clearer. If true it shouldn't be difficult to identify drugs in his sisters blood.
I'm no legal expert but I suspect there will be no media restrictions on this case because it isn't under British jurisdiction. The media will be all over this until its resolved. No doubt they are already over there trying to find witnesses.
Or maybe it's made-up bullshit.

This more or less is my take on it as well. My knowledge of date rape drugs is minimal at best but I thought the whole point was to slip something in their drink so it goes undetected, not stick a feckin needle in her arm for everyone to see. If it did happen then that's a big story in itself with obvious connections to contagious diseases being a big factor and it apparently wasn't brought up at trial which it should of been due to mitigating circumstances.

Harry fecked up. The Greek police fecked up. End of story. Its not the first time people on holiday partying have made bad choices and it certainly won't be the last but if I was Harrys defence lawyer I wouldn't put in a statement that Harry is a great lover of ancient Greek culture because I think that is one step too far
Might have been the guys reaction to being turned down. A witness said girls were being pestered, you now presume one of them was Daisy, It could have been anything from a knife to a syringe(doesn't mean there was anything in it at the time). If it is right she fainted then it must have been something either a drug or extremely painful (shock)

Got to wait and see how the case goes like with Maguire.

However, somebody who is otherwise pleasant snapping and hitting a loved one is more likely than someone assaulting a police officer if you don't have previous.

As you'll note Butt had the charges dropped, while Maguire had the charges changed 2 hours before the trial and no postponement to organise a defence.

I was listening to Pat Nevin and he made a good point. He was saying as it's a suspended sentence - no fine and no jail time, he could have just drawn a line under it and moved on.
The fact that he's appealing suggests he really feels he's been wronged by that verdict.

Didn't Butt get into trouble for punch up in a restaurant years ago, not sure if it was a ex boyfriend of his future wife.

A witness said something happened with his sister, as to what there are various stories doing the rounds. Thing is that witness would not be called as it is not what Harry was charged with, but the original incident led to the later incidents.
I don't think we can be sure of anything but we have heard that this is what happened and evidence in a case like this requires witnesses, and there were none for the defense.
Cheers. Be interesting to know who that witness was. Surely there has to be a separate investigation into this because the sister would file charges herself.

I am in no way being judgmental nor trying to stir things up, but another motive for appealing is the implication of having a custodial sentence on your record, from a visa perpsective.

I'm asking this because I genuinely don't know but is there any danger of him receiving a harsher sentence if his appeal fails?

I wasn't aware but makes sense. These kinds of stories make their way out, which is kind of my point about Maguire not having a reputation as anything other than humble and gentle.

If they were wearing plain clothes and didn't announce themselves before attempting an arrest then yes, they'd be in the wrong and the charges would be dropped.

They were resisting arrest and Maguire pushed 1 of them over which caused an injury. He didn't physically strike or beat them from what i've seen.

If as the story goes they approached them just after the altercation with the "albanians" then no wonder they were on edge and uncooperative.

Obviously the court are taking the Police officers word as gospel, but that doesn't mean they aren't lying/exaggerating to make their story stick.
What do you mean from what you've seen? The police said they identified themselves, now you can choose not to believe that and instead believe all the rumours that side with Maguire but it's odd to make definitive statements on that basis.

Courts will deem police testimony to be more credible than the testimony of the accused, that's not unreasonable or unique to Greece. Maguire will need some evidence or witness statements that cast doubt on those events which it seems his defence didn't provide, you'd assume because they don't have one available.

But that's not what you have done or most people in this thread have done. People picked a side regarding Butt and now we still don't know what actually happened, the best course of action for people that are far from the action is to not pick a side and not use silly arguments for or against him such has "he is british" or "he isn't violent" or "all greeks are corrupt".

As far as I know, that's always a danger and you'd think his legal team would have to be confident of winning.
Not necessarily, his legal team may not care about winning but only billing him more hours.

People who make claim he is an embarrassment or that he needs to be stripped of his captaincy needs to get a life and realise that there are more important things going on in the world. It doesn’t really matter either way. It’s just football and we are just a football club, it will be forgotten in a couple of days. People so reactionary. Yawn...

In other words anyone who doesn't agree with you needs to realise there's a pandemic going on .

However Harry should be allowed to go on huge booze benders during the pandemic and do whatever he likes

You old cynic.
I'm not being cynic, that's the reality. People that are guilty appeal judgemements every day and almost all of them have lawyers, their lawyers know that they are guilty but don't really care and there is always the possibility that someone doesn't follow due process and your client get away with murder.

I understand people facing a long sentence appealing because they don't want to spend time in jail. How many spend their own money appealing a suspended sentence?

Might have been the guys reaction to being turned down. A witness said girls were being pestered, you now presume one of them was Daisy, It could have been anything from a knife to a syringe(doesn't mean there was anything in it at the time). If it is right she fainted then it must have been something either a drug or extremely painful (shock)
Where is the source for all of this?

You may be right but there's just so many sub plots going on it's impossible to know exactly what happened which is why I'm sitting on the fence with this one because even if he's found not guilty on appeal (which I obviously hope he is) the whole truth won't be told.

Do I believe Maguire fecked up. Yes I do but as I said before to what extent I just don't know. Do I believe the Greek police/judicial system will also spin a story to make them right. Yes I do. So the question is who to believe? So I choose no one.

Do I believe Maguire should be stripped of his captaincy and thrown out of the club? No I don't because there will always be doubt on the circumstances surrounding this particular case even if he loses his appeal.
