For sure, its not a terrible team but in comparison to 2010 its Sunday League. It just kinda dawned on me how few players they have starting at the biggest clubs when I saw the squad tonight.
Where is Isco? Last cap was June 2019.

Do Germany have any defensive sitting midfielders ?
Kimmich is a defensive midfielder.

Löw repeatedly struggled to get the midfield right. The partnership of Schweinsteiger and Khedira was always on the edge of getting overrun, when Schweinsteiger didn't come up with toptoptop class performances. Its not about the players, but about the organization of the team. Its just way too easy to by-pass the German midfield and run at or behind the CBs. The scary part about todays game was that the Swiss team had enough good chances to score more goals. 1-2 decent passes and the opposition gets in 1v1 situations against players in the last line.

Just looking at Spain and man they seem to be in big trouble. Their front 3 is Fati plus players from Leeds and Wolves, their 3rd choice CB is a kid who only got in the City team after the lockdown. They are playing Jesus Navas who was very average in his original position and only shoe horned in at RB by Pep as their RB. The golden generation seems to really be well and truly done now.

Sergio Ramos seems like the only legit world class player in their squad right now (and I know many will try to argue he's not WC). Probably one of the weakest Spanish squads I've ever seen.
Unfortunately I think you are right, although pointing out that Ansu Fati and Ferrán Torres can be high-level players in a short time.
The forward position is worrying.
Luis Enrique has tried so many combinations...
Mid-level players like Ceballos, Fabián or Rodri should have taken a much firmer step forward.
Perhaps with Thiago, Isco or Saúl back, the picture will change a bit.
In addition, they are moving from the thousand passes to trying to combine possession with an electric attack, which I imagine he intends with Olmo, Ferrán, Adama.
I have read that since 2006 no player had dribbled or crossed so much in a match in Spain.
And as you say, the Leeds striker was in the area.
De Gea / Kepa are also a problem.
At least at the national level, I think that none of them are remotely close to Casillas, Arconada or Cañizares.
It is a complicated position, where it is good to be settled from a young age, being 30 years old fighting for the place with an average goalkeeper creates a lot of mistrust

Entire Iceland staff is now quarantined because an FA staff member got got infected. So not only are 7 players out of the squad since the Denmark match but the U21 assistant manager and U17 manager will be on the sidelines tomorrow against Belgium.

It's a massive game. We're facing stiff challenge from San Marino for being the worst team int the Nation's League.

Didn’t watch the game but just seen the Ukraine goal. The way the media put it I though De Gea has made another almighty feck up. Yes he is badly positioned but why was nobody tracking the goal scorer properly. Poor positioning from De Gea probably due to complacency that Spain had been untouched the whole game but the defender was also complacent. No need for the media to go all out on De Gea.

 That’s hilarious. No competition winner or sunday league player would do worse there. He just stood in one place before drifting a bit. No wonder Silva, Zouma, Tomori and Christensen are ahead of him for you lot.

Low has to go just for putting Hummels and Boateng into exile for someone like him.

Media..
I like how he finishes it off by moving aside for the shot. Just marking his presence like he really "tries" to "block" the shot.

The English media? Surely being biased towards an English keeper and having a go at United is something the English media would do!?

That's hardly their best starting 11 tbf

Once carvajal, thiago, saul, luis alberto, koke, fabian ruiz are back into the team that's not any worse than what they ever had outside those 4 years of their golden era. The big issue for them is goalkeeper and goalscorer, they just don't have them

As much as I'd enjoy that, they always come good for tournaments (WC 2018 aside). And Gnabry/Sane as a pair of wingers is pretty scary for opposition defenders.
EDIT: In my life time, the Germany tournament cycle usually seems to be (weird feelings of football thread) poor friendly results leading up to the tournament, make light work of their group, lose to the eventual winners in the semi-finals.
Yes Germany are a tournament team, their starting XI looks very good on the paper and they have home advantage for the Euros in the group stage (if fans will be allowed) but Löw hasn't found answers to their problems since the World Cup (Only two more international weeks before the Euros) and right now France & Portugal are much better than Germany.

Even the Spanish media made a meal out of it. Tbf I think they re exaggerated it a bit

Martial, Maguire, Vdb and Rashford are expected to start. Pogba on the bench

Really thought Grealish would come in for Mount, who was pretty terrible against Belgium... But Gareth really does love him.

That's a really shit England line up. Very defensive with Phillips and Rice in the middle. And just Mount, Rashford and Kane up top

It seems like Southgate is set on going back to 3 at the back. Not a fan of his obsession with Mount either.

How is Netherlands setting up? Their lineup looks a bit weird, also interesting to see Blind in midfield if that's actually his position.

After playing two defensive midfielders against Denmark in the first game and that looking like a mistake, Southgate does it again! Grealish and Sancho should have started but are on the bench. No idea why he seems to have this obsession with Mount.

We could have gone with:

Pickford

Reece James (presumably TAA rested)
Maguire
Coady
Walker / Saka

Rice
Henderson

Sancho
Grealish
Rashford

Kane

I used to be a fan of Southgate but maybe his popularity during the World Cup has gone to his head. We failed in the Nations league and despite having some great attacking players, we are churning out defensive line ups against an average side. Hope it's not another case of a wasted generation.

If I was grealish I’d seriously be wondering what I’d have to do to get picked for England. Probably the in form player of the prem, creates a assist on his debut for England and is a threat through out. Baffling.

I don't get why he has to set up so defensively against Denmark.
I think he might want to look at setting up this way moving forward. After the World Cup when he switched to a back 4, England became defensively less solid. Southgate, being a defensive manager by nature (including in his club career), struggles to abide with that even if results aren't actually getting any worse.

Frank de Boer found a way to again not start our only somewhat on form attacker Steven Berghuis. Literally the entire press has been saying he should start him. He's such a stubborn twat. Already the worst national coach Ive seen.
