This Rashford “letting him” take the penalty is weird. The guy won the penalty and took it. I would think the guy who wins a penalty or the guy who is designated penalty taker are the ones who get first preference.

There's not another striker in the world on a hattrick that would hand that ball over, designated penalty taker or not

No, it wasn't weird, it was a great gesture.

The way Rashford understands the game and what a striker has to come through when he doesn't score...

Or he felt so powerful that day that he knew he was going to score his third anyway!

OGS instructed that Martial take the penalty. Straight out of the bosses mouth.

Rashford is still a saint

absolute bollocks mate.

things change during the course of a match. Many strikers would have taken that pen, no matter what the manager is shouting. Players who are confident to take a pen take the ball all of the time. Cheap shot to criticise Rashford, when there’s no need to, and we all got the result that we wanted.
Yeah, it's also weird (not pointing fingers at Santoryo btw), there are few Martial fans who love him so much that they are only capable of backhanded praise for other attackers.

People just love to highlight his poor moments and sometimes it's not even poor moments. For example, "He could have passed the ball to Martial" is hilarious one, yes he could have done that and on the other hand he also backs himself to beat the defenders and create goal scoring chance and he nearly did it too.

It's weird that people who dissect Rashford game to highlight poor moments won't do the same to Martial and other way is true too.

I've always thought it's players' thing, not manager's.

If you feel confident, you need confidence - it depends on players, they know much better than somebody standing outside the pitch.

People do it all the time. Heck Lukaku did it at inter last year with his first hat trick for inter on the line. He gave the ball to some kid who was making his debut. Messi done it(which makes Linkener claims that Messi wouldn't give away a pen even more absurd) and plenty of time.

Also most importantly the pen wasn't Rashford to give in the first place.

If anyone has actually shown willingness to give away penalties to help his teammates gain confidence it's Bruno who have away one last year to Rashford ironically to help him get off the mark post lockdown.

Martial had yet to get off the mark this season and is the team striker, the moment he won that penalty I think most expected him to take it right away but Rashford fought it and wanted his hat trick. Ole then intervened and demanded that Martial take it because he actually understand that the team as a whole having confidence is better than individual glory something that had escaped Rashford in that particular moment.

Hopefully that was just the eagerness for his first hat trick and we don't see such display of selfishness again. That moment was a huge turn off. I've never been on board with teammates display of selfishness, ever.

He did or not, Rashford was capable of doing that anyway.
Maybe he's capable of doing it or not but if there is anything that particular moment showed that night was Rashford's selfishness, so I wouldn't dress that whole incident as indication of Rashford's selflessness given he demonstrated the contrary.

Like I mentioned I hope it's the eagerness of his first ever hat trick because that was a low moment in my eye. Your teammate who happen to be a striker need to get off the mark and gain confidence and you right him over a penalty that he won. Not cool.

I think beside Rashford at that moment, all off Bruno, Ole and most people knew and understood that Martial should take the penalty.

By the way - to discuss it when both Martial scored the penalty and Rashford got his third :smirk:

Again. Such BS. Amazing how you can find a way to slag off Rashford from this situation.

Didnt Lukaku give Rashford the penalty against PSG despite being on a hattrick?
No as Lukaku want penalty taker for us, he took one and missed it. Not sure which choice taker he was at that time.

I don't recall the sequence leading up to deciding who takes the penalty but I think at that point Lukaku wasn't really taking penalties because of his average conversion rate and that penalty was a critical one, so if I have to guess Lukaku never intended to take it in the first place and Rashford just felt confident to take it.

There was no designated takers on the pitch that game because both Pogba and Martial who took our pens at that point were out.

The Martial vs Rashford division runs deep. Thanks Mourinho!

Ole's words and video confirmation suggests, Martial was supposed to take it but picked up the ball and gave it to Rashford as he was on a hattrick. Rashford puts the ball on the spot as Martial walks away. Ole shouts. So Martial turns back as Rashford walks away.

No jealousy between them. Martial was okay for Rashford to take it. Rashford was okay to follow Ole's instruction. All smiles after the penalty and after Martial's assist for Rashford's hattrick.

Somehow people find it offending and start an unnecessary drama again, idiots.
Luckily, it's just couple of users on internet forum and not players, who actually get on very well with each other.

What's wrong and sinister in:
1. Marcus wanting to take that penalty
2. And Ole overrulling him (cause that's literally what happened) and giving it to Martial?
Some people think that by stating this (that it was Ole's decision) other fans want to make Rash look like a selfish player ffs No, it's just what happened, nothing more nothing less.

And all of this after Martial assisted Marcus in his 3rd goal.

Not even if their manager told them to?

Martial started the game and was penalty taker. He was happy to let Rashford take it. Ole jumped in and pushed Martial to take it, which he did and scored.

Then Martial set Rashford up for his hattrick anyway. Everyone was happy for each other, no sulking, no egos. Positives all round.

I think he's the one that has won us the most penalties. It's crazy that a bulk of our penalties are hardly those ridiculous hand ball calls but our players being fouled in the box.

Need to hope that goal sparks Martial into some form. He's had a disappointing start to the season. Shame he's still suspended for Arsenal. fecking Lamela.

Fortunately just among the fans, and not the two players. They seem to get on great, and I always feel they play their best football together.

its shit these fans make up in their own minds so that they can slag off the other player. It’s pathetic.

The glue to our attack.

Even when he doesnt score he brings others in to play. He consistently occupies 2 or 3 players when he has the ball with his back towards goal.

He is our attack and he knits everything together. When he isn't there and when he is out of form we always tend to struggle.

Just like last year United struggling without him. We did well without Pogba, Rashy because Martial carried us through that period. Need him back firing now

If it wasn't obvious by now, We NEED him. He's our best player with his back to goal.

Apart from a 10 minute spell at the end of the Newcastle game, we have scored 1 goal in the almost 4 Premier League games he has missed.

The thing with Martial is that because he isnt a fox in the box type striker people think he isnt good enough.

The guy is meant to play deep because he is an interlinking creative glue player more than his decent ability to finish. He could play behind a penalty box striker and we would still see his benefits.

All these comments saying we have missed him. We need him etc.

Whose fault is it that he's not playing? His own actions cost us any chance of a comeback vs Spurs and because of his own stupidity we've had to play another 2 top 6 rivals without him.

He isn't blameless guys. He's the reason we are missing him.
