When I look at all the midfielders we’ve had who have been regulars in the last 15 years, I’d say Pogba is probably around the level of Anderson.

However Anderson when fit would be quite good. The fletcher carrick anderson axis worked well.

Im not putting Paul down it’s just he’s a luxury player and I genuinely see him around what Anderson gave us and Anderson wasn’t all that bad tbh.
I'd rather have Anderson.

He goes below Anderson but ahead of Schneiderlin.

I'm a little bit happy that he's taking the brunt of the blame for this loss because if not for the penalty, people won't understand how bad he really was tonight. We struggled immensely to move the ball up the pitch despite having 4 midfielders. Bruno was tasked with pressing much higher up the pitch and finding opportunities in those pocket of spaces, but didn't even recieve those passes. Pogba Fred and Mctominay were the ones responsible for our inability to move the ball and regain the ball in our most problematic area of the pitch. You can blame Rashford Greenwood and Bruno all you want, but at the end of the day , they were feeding off scraps, we coudn't even get the ball into midfield.

Pogba, for me, takes most of the blame as he was the extra man in midfield brought on to support Fred and Mctominay who we know aren't the best passers out from the back. He didn't do that, instead he stayed he stayed relatively high, barely ever providing any support to them. Even Bruno Greenwood and Rashford came deep to provide some support. He was also tasked with finding the right spaces in midfield to cover for our lack of width, but again his static play when we are attacking was exposed again, something that not many people seem to have picked up on. If you are not going to take up deep central positions and assume responsibility in dictating the team's tempo, he at least should have been providing himself as a passing option and width provider for our attack, again he did not do this. Anything productive he did was on the ball, and even then he was slow to release the ball.

Defensively, he and the rest of the centre midfielders, Fred and Mctominay, failed to limit arsenal playing midfield, which is why we were trapped in our half in the first half. Even with the goal, he didn't simply concede a penalty, he conceded it in an act of lazy frustration because he could not keep up with closing down arsenals attack, whilst the rest of the team were willing to do that grunt work. Some people mask his lazy play as him having an elegant running style, when in truth, its him simply being lazy. That's ok if you are a striker too, but in midfield in the premier league, you can't afford to be that laid back.

Too many excuses, too much trouble, not enough impact. He doesn't create enough near the box to be an attacker and doesn't have the determination, concentration, work rate , teamwork or concentration to play in a premeier league.

He doesn't actually look all that bothered anymore. He used to do more running forward to get near the box, but now he just hangs back all the time.

I know people aren't going to want to hear it, but I actually think he was better under Mourinho in the first and second season. I think he has gone downhill since then (bar the stint at the start of Solskjaer's management).
He only looked that way because the team was running through him....and due to that, we were very inconsistent. Now he's being exposed. Some people think that with "better" players or a more progressive manager, he would improve. The problem is far bigger than that.
In midfield, he is so undetermined defensively that against difficult opponents that have similar quality to our team, he makes it almost impossible for us to regain the ball in midfield. In these type of games with high tempo, the midfield has to constantly be moving...constantly pressuring and harassing the opponents into losing the ball. Pogba constantly gets found out because he doesn't move off the ball quickly enough to harass the opposition, so at best, when in the mood, he can only provide cover. However, in his worst form, he's like a seive. In attack, he doesn't move the ball fast enough to beat the opposition press, constantly trying to play individually. The big games also his lack of attacking determination, particularly under pressure.

Johann Cruyff said that true technique is being able to pass the ball with one touch accurately and at the right speed. This is the opposite of what Pogba can do. He takes about ten touches and tries to beat his man.

At this stage he is a liability.
Funnily enough a player like Thomas Muller is capable of exactly that. Yet people say he has average technique, is clumsy etc.

He literally runs like a giraffe, only slower.

But I agree with you. Could’ve played in Brunos position with less defensive responsibility but now that you have Bruno in the team there’s no place for Pogba. He just isn’t good enough. Maybe unfair to put him against Bellerin, but he is a catastrophe defensively no matter what.

Oh please, he could stand still and breath on the pitch and he'd be better than Scott McT and Fred.

Second most distance covered behind McTominay. HIs work rate was so high trying to keep up with Arsenal that he got tired after 70 min and gave away the penalty. He wasn't even the worst player out there but I'm glad his pen suits your agenda.

Um. Obviously? Bruno and Fred both subbed off long before the end. Would have been a stunningly lazy performance, even for Pogba, to be any further down those rankings.

I do agree he wasn’t the worst player out there. And this was arguably his best league game so far. The penalty was an amazingly sloppy and stupid moment though.

We're starting this agenda thing up again. I'm sorry, but it's way past that now with him. Pogba is a problem...failing to see it at this point is bad faith. He was poor and has been poor. He doesn't suit us now and in all honesty has never been as good as people have wanted him to be. The agenda on this forum is actually trying to classify him as world class...1 good game in 10 doesn't make you that. The truth is, for every poor game he has, which is bordering on 70 percent of his games at this point, there will always be fans who see him dribble past 2 or 3 player or make one highlight pass in a game and lap it up. They'll only admit it when he's gone, same thing happened with Kagawa.

You could see he was going to give away the pen before he even did it.

The ball went to Bellerin and you just knew Pogba would foul him because he's a moron.

In the big games he's a complete and utter liability. It was almost 4 years ago at home to Liverpool that he had a complete nightmare of a performance and gave away a stupid penalty. He was only about 23 then and you could assume it was a one off.

But here we are 4 years later and he's still doing it. He's still wildly inconsistent, prone to brain dead mistakes and decisions. Except now you don't even get the same amount of goals or assists from him.

I watched the pen incident again and how stupid was he ? The ball wasn't even in dangerous position what the feck ? Bellerin would have probably went out with it or put on a lame cross.

This guy really has zero intelligence off the ball.

Harsh but fair (and depressing)

Something else that still happens is an occasional good performance to remind us what he’s capable of and raise our hopes that the penny might finally have dropped. Always followed swiftly by crushing disappointment.

It was a horrific performance by Pogba against Arsenal, worthy of no more than a 4 if you give him all benefits of doubts, but a 1 for me.

Whatever the root causes of his ongoing malaise, if he’s not sorted out by December we need to fetch what we can from whoever might fancy him in January. It’s incredibly sad that we’re at this point, as we know his story of his departure and return, but there’s no sign whatsoever this is going to work for either him or the club and the interests of the club and its supporters must be paramount. If we van move him on January perhaps we can bring in another player who addresses a glaring weakness, such as RW.

Called it just as he went for the ball.

We really should be seeing the best of him week-in week-out at this point. He should be a leader in midfield. I worry that another few years will go by, he'll turn 30 and we'll all realise (him included) that it's been a missed opportunity to do something great. I just feel like we're wheel-spinning, at the moment.

Terrible player. Only looks good with world class players around him - Juventus and France. Should've got rid of him ages ago. No way should he be starting games anymore.

Bit unrelated, but I enjoy the No Question About That pod but at the same time I'm genuinely curious how they defend that disgrace of a performance.

We should sell him alongwith getting rid of Ole. I'd chuck Woodward out too but he's clearly the boss and is going nowhere.

Now watch us give him a new contract.

Yeah i remember that one. It was also his last game against Liverpool I think. Hasn't played against them since i'm sure.

If our next manager is smart he'd get rid of Pogba. Not because he's a "bad apple" or anything. He comes across a a solid bloke. But tactically he's a real headache and doesn't have the maturity and reliability that we, as a football club, need from our midfield.

It's a shame because he's so incredibly gifted. Even in a game like yesterday where he was poor he'd pull off touches which were sublime but it's then followed by a bad decision or two and it's just a bad fit for us IMO.

He's a symptom of the problem.

Let's say for arguments sake, we could sell Pogba right now. He's gone to Madrid and we never have to watch him play for United ever again. Most of the Caf' get their wish.

Do we suddenly start playing like a team? Do we win the league? How about even beating an average Arsenal side at Old Trafford?

The answer is no. What actually happens in this scenario is the same as before: we're still an incredibly inconsistent team that can go from a brilliant performance to a shocking performance within a week.

We are too reliant on individual brilliance and opponent teams that leave lots of space to exploit in behind. If our players have an off day or the opponent team sits deep, we struggle.

All of United's current problems point to the coaching or lack thereof.

I'm all for selling Pogba if we get a great price for him, but the same issues will be there. Nothing will change.
I agree with everything you say. But I'd still sell him.

He's always been inconsistent in his time here, but thus far this season, he's been abysmal for the most part.

Not really sure what's up with him. Pretty sad to watch to be honest.

Not good enough mentally i think. But he tried today, and conceding a stupid penalty. I like him but too slow, takes a billion touches and seems like doesn't take much responsibility despite being a senior member of the squad.

He will walk for free and maybe we all can agree that performance in Italy is just that. Look at smalling and lukaku. Can't fault the club for trying. Cant fault him for wanting a bumper contract here. Im so exhausted with this team all around, again.

He’s awful. Bruno was bad yesterday but I think he could make something out of nothing from that bad performance because he has asset in his long shot and set pieces to win us the game or score. Pogba played bad and he has nothing in his assets to get out from that poor performance. Pogba should have been subbed off not Bruno.

At least we will have Martial back against Everton means we won’t see Pogba in XI if we play 4231. And if we play 442 diamond, I would rather see Donny than Pogba.

The guy is just impact sub at best, playing when the opposition players are tired.

Can we feck him right out of the club please? A complete waste of space and money. He’s done absolutely nothing since he’s came back bar the occasional good performance.

We’ve been coming up with so many excuses for him over the years but it’s clear that he’s not mentally good enough nor is he a good fit.

I used to defend him (well except few times when I wanted him gone), dont think he should be starting for us. Looks completely disinterested player, poor work rate, poor effort and team completely loses balance with him in the side. He gets ahead because of his passing range and creative passing, when even that is poor then no point playing him.

Bruno has probably 30% of Pogba's skill and Pogba has probably 5% of Bruno's intelligence. He's a showboat and nothing else. It is impossible to give him a task and ask him to execute it without faltering to his default. Going forward his best use is going to be impact sub at 70th min.

It's hard to see when watching United, but since bruno came in, I've become more aware how important simple touches are. Being able to move the ball in tight situations constantly, particularly in midfield and especially for a player deemed creative. He was horrible with his touches last night and that is a constantly overlooked theme of his time here. It's easy to see the flashy things, but Pogba fails at the fundamentals throughout his game.

I have grievances with Ole, but I honestly believe Pogba is the last " doesnt fit united" player we have in our constant rotation, which is why he sticks out like a sore thumb. I dont think you can question the commitment and in game determination of our frequent starters bar him.

At this stage is there anybody left on the planet apart from Ole and Gary Neville who want to defend Pogba.

I’m literally still raging. I’ve seen some dreadful dross over the last few years and I’ve gotten used to losing with a shrug but this has real rankled me, I could barely sleep because I was so angry!

I’m sick to death of debating which position the useless t**t is supposed to play. I’m sick to death of watching his self-indulgent determination to try tricks and flicks and beat players in defensive areas. I’m sick of him barely breaking a sweat in games. I’m sick of his god-awful attempts to tackle and defend. I’m sick of entire formations and game plans being set up to try and get a half decent performance out of him. I’m sick of us having to pick players literally to babysit him.

We have the core of a decent team here but Jose was spot on, there is a virus which is preventing it from really flourishing

Where is the Pogba who showed us in his first season he could speed up play with 1 or 2 touches, nowadays he's infuriating. He slows things down so much

I don't think he's ever conceded a pen for France.

People won't like it but I strongly believe Fellaini gave us more than Pogba during their time here, considering the quality of each one of them and the expectations.
No doubt he did. Fellaini was/is an incredibly limited footballer, but at least you know what you are getting with him. Pogba is like playing the lottery. Once a blue moon you win but most of the time you just waste time and money.

Ideally he should be shipped off and replaced in January, but i doubt he would have many suitors. If we are lucky maybe some Chinese or Russian club is willing to pay stupid money for him.

In 5 years time i think Pogba, along with Sanchez and Di Maria will go down as the worst transfer the club has made in modern times
