This season is too bizarre because of Covid and injuries. Covid created the environment but, like most people I have spoken to, it was the Everton game that did for Liverpool this season, with that unpunished assault (most, most aggravating). That was closely followed by our second choice CB also getting injured.

We didn’t play fantasy football against Palace to win 7-0 - we got lucky with everything on target being a goal! Not sure that game is a barometer of our being in form. We have been struggling since Mar 2020 lockdown.

I'm not sure a team defending a title have ever had it harder. One of the worst injury crises in league history, some of the harshest VAR decisions we've seen, a global pandemic meaning no fans in the grounds, a collective loss of form in front of goal...

Honestly I think we need to stop putting our best midfielders into defence. Yes we’re protecting the defence, but it’s quite clearly coming at a cost to our attacking play and I don’t think the trade off is worth it. Just get Phillips and Williams at the back, Hendo and Fab back in mid and just go heavy metal again.

Not saying everything is perfect, far from it, but it also isn’t the end of the world either. Before this rough patch we were top with not only our center backs gone all season but as you say also not being able to have our normal midfield either. Our team has been decimated and yet we are still just 6 point behind after our worst patch in years with half a season to go.
Without sounding to overly optimistic or anything I’m gutted as feck and a few remote controls got chucked around tonight but Klopp is a fecking mad man genius and no matter how shit it is I know he will drag us out. I just hope it’s sooner rather than later. Saying that if we stay 6 points or so in touch and we’re chasing down the leaders with ten games to go with our form back, jota back and Salah and Mane banging them in for fun again, I can’t say anyone ahead would be doing anything but shitting themselves an id still fancy us all day long.

Lets look at positive.

1) The record was broken by Burnley and not Manchester United.
2) We are still only 6 points behind the best team in the world. With the best midfielder combo that the world have ever seen. Pogba/Mc/Fernandes.
3) The window still is open, we might get a centre back or a centre forward (Sorry Bobby, your time as a regular starter is over). Also still time to sell Divock.
4) FA Cup against United coming up. Form goes out the window. Hopefully they smell blood and do not play like cowards at home. The best ever chance of winning at OT.
5) point from the last 3 home game. Surely there is no way this poor form can continue.
6) Klopp had this type of dip in his last season with Dortmund. He knows how to end the poor slump. Having no crowd at home might also helps as the mood will have been toxic. The last thing we want is Klopp walking away. BVB have not recovered (not won anything major) since he left, we do not want to make the same mistake.
7) Man City / United have shown what one Portugese can do to morale (Dias and Fernandes). Maybe we have our own winning run when our Portugese signing comes back from Injury.

I've said it many times: Klopp overachieved with this lot (Robertson, Henderson, Matip, Fabinho, Firmino, etc.) Once the true TopTop players have begun declining (basically Allison, Mané, and Salah), it's back to good old Top3-6. It seems Van Dick was the true leader of this lot. With him injured, the season was over months ago. Currently, even Real Madrid or Barcelona could knock them out of the UCL.

I'm not sure Klopp has what it takes to make a "SAF-like rebuild", considering his lame coda at Dortmund after 2010-2013.

Keane hit the nail on the head, the key to greatness is doing it over and over, and neither City or Liverpool can come close to either the '99 treble team, or the United team in '08.

The standard in every league is that in the long run, the biggest spenders win. Liverpool has had Klopp which is super. If liverpool doesnt have/spend money, they will drop...

We are going into a game against United as underdogs, who would have said that 2 months ago, 2 months is a short time and we may be saying completely different things in 2 months time as well.

Problem is the next two are against Moyes and Mourinho. Feels like it will be mor3 of the same.

Our fringe players are average. And its probably the fact that our starting 11 and 3/4 subs are so good that the fringe players are just left sitting there not getting any decent run in the team

So much bedwetting. 19 games left and 6pts off the pace in an utterly bizarre season. Yeah, we could miss top 4 but we could also win it. Too early to say either way. Our next 6 games will tell us more. And it could actually be good that they’re against better opposition than won’t camp ten men in defence.

That's not fair. Folk have a right to be pissed of at this run of form. We're better than this.

When Virgil got assaulted I had some pretty horrible thoughts about where the season was going to go
And bizarrely if you give me 6pts off the top at this stage after that game and the injuries we sustained idve probably took that

It was the Gomez injury really. I didn't expect to be anywhere near after that. To be top at Christmas was a miracle. It's the hope that kills you, as they say.
