They were never getting top 4 under Lampard. Now it looks very likely they will. Right decision to sack him. Bold moves pay off.

But their goal was individual quality and not a pattern of play? :D I’m kidding! He’s doing very well, fair play to him.

What he's done with our midfield is what impresses me the most. We play with a level of confidence in midfield I haven't seen at Chelsea for a long time.
Very good start to his time at Chelsea.
2 ga (1 own goal) in 9 games which included Spurs, ATM, United and Liverpool.

I'm yet to be convinced personally. He's done a good job up to a point, they have a good system of play and seem to be taking on board his tactical style. Going from that leaky defence under Lampard to the tight one they have now is good work too. But they've been extremely conservative, which is why their defence is looking good, and the result is that they don't look dangerous going forward. I've not seen every game, but I saw the following

vs Spurs - excellent first half where they didnt give Spurs a kick, but were poor second half. Would have conceded if Spurs weren't so awful.
vs Southampton - pretty meh
vs Atletico - the better team, but neither side was very impressive
vs Utd - average
vs Liverpool - good for the win, but Liverpool were woeful and a good team would have spanked them

Not seen any others, but looking at the results nothing jumps out as being remarkable that I've missed.

Granted he's had very little time and taken over in difficult circumstances, so you wouldn't expect Tuchel to have his team purring yet. Im certainly not saying he never will, once he's had a pre-season and a chance to buy his own players he'll have every chance of getting them running in peak form. Indeed this season I think his approach to this phase as manager is very sensible. With so many teams being up and down throughout the season, a solid run based on a good defence where you only need to score the odd goal to get the 3 points could easily keep them in the top 4, maybe even get them to second.

But I think some fans are going overboard. Since he arrived, they've been consistent while others have been very inconsistent. That's different from them being excellent. I think some United fans in particular rate him because there's a sense that he's the anti-Ole, someone who is all about structure, systems and shape, which has always been Ole's biggest weakness. (And also because he's trendy, and managed Dortmund, and all that hipster stuff people care about). For me he's been solid, but not really suggested that he's going to make Chelsea a force just yet.

He is doing really well at Chelsea. Kudos to the Chavs, their management really are ruthless. I won't be surprised if they finish above us in the table.

Back in the top 4.

Played Man United, Atletico and Liverpool on the spin and not conceded a goal.

Still a lot to work on but his start has been pretty damn good.
its brilliant, considering everyone said "theyve played no one yet, the real test is Utd, Atletico, Liverpool" Won2 , drawn 1, 0 goals against

It was said by myself and some others that our squad, is possibly 2nd best in the league and a top manager with experience could make us a scary prospect.

I think next season is where you'll really see a true Tuchel team, with some of his own signings brought in. Things looking positive so far, though

Our managerial merry go round is brutal, but it works. everyone criticises it, but 9 times out of 10 it brings reward. It's a winning model

Given his history of signings, you better hope he doesn't bring in his own players

This squad is good enough for second, and a potential title bid in a season where City don't have a good season (I'm not including Liverpool because I think they'l have an overhaul of their squad in the summer and what comes out of it will be uncertain). New signings might be needed in central defense but it would be interesting to see who is in charge of recuirtment given Tuchel's relatively poor transfer record at Dortmund and PSG.

To be honest, I don't see which players he should bring in. This squad is almost tailored for Tuchel already. Jorginho, Kovacic, Mount, Havertz, Hudson-Odoi and to a lesser extent even Werner are brillant for him. Pulisic, too.

Maybe he needs a defender or two, especially if Silva regresses but especially attack and midfield look already on point. At least the first names on the team sheet. They could go for a world class signing (Sancho I suppose) and/or optimize the second row. Sell Abraham and Kanté, etc. and replace them with Tuchel type of players. This could become a really terrific team if they do land Sancho.

Impressed by what he's achieved in such a short period. Only blip so far was the incident with CHO which is now forgotten. Ole should take a lesson from him on how to use the bench.

Not going to get carried away as things can change quickly in football but i'm really happy with how we are playing at the moment. Tuchel has surprised me i'm not going to lie.

Main thing is to get top 4 and then have a big clear out of the fringe and loan army to fund a couple of signings to take us to the next level. We'll need to sell to cover some of last years expenditure anyway.

Their defensive record is annoyingly good now, the 5 at the back seems to be working wonders. Hopefully he shifts it to 4 at the back soon and they start leaking goals again like earlier in the season.

They're never going to concede again. And they definitely won't concede in their next game.

I agree with this just now. Don't get me wrong, he's done a good job, I can't take that away from him. I also think Chelsea timed it perfect when they decided to change to give him a welcoming first few fixtures to bed his ideas & build momentum. And as good as results as winning at Spurs & Liverpool are, there probably couldn't be a better time to play them.

So, I'll acknowledge he's done well, & will wait to see how it continues. If he is as good as being made out with the squad Chelsea have & will add to in the summer it really should be a title challenge next year. But we'll done so far.

Can you remember our games and results when Ole first took over. fecking hell this place and the constant drooling over other teams managers is pathetic
I do think our situation was massively different though, Mourinho had just finished 2nd with 80+ points, so it absolutely was a capable enough team. Mourinho had also made the place toxic as hell, every single player appeared to hate going to work. Not to take anything away from Ole, I think anyone taking over United then would have gotten the "feck off Mourinho" bounce. Our form at the end of that season proved no doubt that it was a bounce.

Chelsea players were happy enough still under Lampard, but TT has come in and made some nice subtle changes in the way they play that appear much better suited to the players they have. I don't see Chelsea suddenly going into a drastic drop like we did after a few months.

I get your point about how bad we fell under mourinho but Chelsea also had great players under frank, to me it looks like he’s lost the dressing room too.

It may have been a bounce under Ole too, it went on for so long people were questioning whether a new manager bounce can really last that long, I remember tearing Spurs with two wide forwards no one expected and remember reading about how good the new tactics were.

now we’re reading how shit and clueless Ole is and can’t coach, seen the same comments about Arteta, been there two games and can already see his style and tactics and is going to take arsenal places, I don’t even look where arsenal are in the table anymore!

Impressed by how he's rotating player, tweaking our tactics for each gane and getting the best out of Alonso and Kante especially.

He's achieved nothing yet though, needs to secure 4th or better and ideally get us to a final.

Come on man, you can't seriously compare Frank leaving Chelsea and Mourinho leaving United? Mourinho was throwing a new player under the bus every week. Hs Frank said a bad word or had a big Pogba style fall out with anyone?

That's what I thought as well.

Would be a bold move after buying so many expensive attacking players recently, and I'm far from sure they'd do it. But on the other hand, Sancho has tremendous upsides, both as a player and potential future England star.

So if Haaland isn't available, maybe replacing Ziyech with Sancho and letting the rest fight for their future at the club?

Are they linked at all?

I’m not comparing them directly no, I just find it funny how our fans can wank themselves silly over a new managers first few games using that as ‘proof’ of what good coaching can do.

It’s amazing what a positive mentality can do.

Let’s not forget though they probably have the joint 2nd best squad with Liverpool.

I’d say ours is fourth best.

We really lack great ball carriers and technicians, our best is Mason which says a lot.

A player with Grealish technicality and output will really add to us.

Grealish, Haaland and a good winger and we are transformed I think.

Grealish, Rashford, Diallo, Cavani, Haaland, Greenwood, Bruno, James.

I think that’s good enough with Pogba and Martial leaving.

James ideally replaced for a technical right winger, even a 27/28 year old whose very good. Gives good balance.

No they have a better manager than we do. Our squad is better. However, their manager is much better than ours.

I think the squads are pretty even in fairness. They had a ban when Ole spent a huge amount and we signed more players for depth when they spent big this summer. If you asked neutrals to make a combined XI it would be very mixed.

The rumour currently has 40% probability on transfermarkt.de (United 30%,Liverpool 38%) last time I checked and the more recent sources, make of that what you will. Predicting Sancho's club next season right now is pretty difficult, IMO. Could be any of those or a completely different club. He might even stay. All I know is in Sancho's place I'd find the Chelsea option really, really tempting and to me they look the most likrly elite club to meet Dortmund's demands in the current situation.

People really are like - "see this is what a good manager does for their team."

you guys remember when Ole came and we went on a hugestreak? Did that make him a good manager automatically for you? No - y'all called it - "new manager bounce."
Let's relax. Tuchel is a good manager but let's observe for more than a few games before saying chelsea is now the best team in the league behind city.

It's a repetitive cycle. Some United fans for some reason love to go overboard with praising a new manager [or using him as a stick to beat Ole], then other United fans end up almost being pushed into being overly negative about said new manager. It happened with Sarri, Lampard and now Tuchel.

Biggest difference for me is how Tuchel pretty dramatically changes the personell to suit each match. He's using our entire large squad basically. Players who were shocking under Frank (Alonso, Christensen, Rüdiger, Azpi etc) have come back in and with new tactical instructions have looked back to their best. Frank basically did the same thing every match and was painfully naive. Which is understandable because he's a novice coach.

I think the last step for us this season is to become more clinical up top. We've been brilliant defensively and outstanding in midfield but our attack hasn't been as strong. The chances are being created but not finished.

Also curious to see what Tuchel does now that Thiago Silva is back fit. Was our best player up until his injury. With all 3 of Azpi, AC, and Rüdiger playing so well I wonder where he slots in.

What Chelsea lacks is someone who make 20+ goals for them.I still think Werner is a great player and easily be capable of being that big scorer for Chelsea.

When we watch the Chelsea games I feel he always looks really dangerous and involved a lot in their attacking game. He just hasn't been efficient enough yet. I am convinced it is not an issue of the stronger league , since her creates a lot and just misses the chances he creates.

I am convinced Tuchel can get out a lot of Werner. Already impressive how he integrated Rüdiger and Alonso already. Rüdiger legit looked like a top defender, interesting to see how long it lasts.

I love the short memories on here. This is a manager Ole dumped out of Europe with a bunch of kids and 10 senior players injured a few yrs ago and also beat them again this season in Paris.

We could have hired Tuchel at start of the season and I don't think we'd be any higher than 2nd in league. And his football so far at Chelsea has been pretty dull too so you can't even make a case for better football.

Its early days and there's things like the new manager bounce to consider. I didn't see a whole lot in the United game to suggest they will be light years ahead of us, and being the 5th away team in a row to win at Anfield might say more about Liverpool's form than Chelsea's.

He's inherited a strong squad and it definitely looks more promising for Chelsea but I think we need to see where he is by this time next year before we start eulogizing how we missed out on him.

They'll surely need to score more goals, and consistently, to be in the discussion for trophies. Of course winning every game 1-0 will get you trophies, but the defensive record will certainly get worse. Right now everybody is still super motivated to execute the new approach, but tiredness and routine will bring defensive mistakes with them over time. But i get the feeling they should have scored more anyway, the way they're playing. Werner still needing a million chances only to have var overturn his best attempts certainly plays a part here.

No offense but United was quite lucky to go through back then. PSG dominated your team but failed to convert it into goals, especially in the first match if I remember correctly. Also worth mentioning that Neymar was missing and the squad really wasn't that special without him, especially since Mbappe was really bad individually in those games. They still deserved to go through, IMO, and the goal that decided the tie came from a penalty after Kimpembe unintentionally blocked a shot with his hand that would've went 5 metres over the goal anyway. The team who wins is right ultimately, but the coaching duel at least from my perspective went to Tuchel.

Personally I just don't see a handwriting when watching United play and although I don't follow every United game closely, over the years I've seen quite a few games under Solskjaer by now. I think you have a terrific squad with players such as Greenwood, Fernandes, Rashford, van de Beek (although he isn't playing currently) and even Martial when he isn't so out of form, and Solskjaer deserves credit for that, but to me you come across as a team without real synergies. This typical "they are more than the sum of their parts" feeling just isn't there when watching you play. So from a "squad managerial" perspective I think Solskjaer is doing a great job since you individually look much better than before he took over but as a coach I just don't see it.
