Yeah keep telling myself it's purely a pipe dream so the pain won't be bad when it inevitably doesn't happen, so who would you consider a decent level DM just out of interest this summer
Yeah same here. If he goes to City it will be a disaster.

It’s tricky at DM. We desperately need one but there aren’t top level ones available.

I would take Bissouma from Brighton, that’s somebody we could get a reasonable deal on, Zakaria would be a good option.

Then you have the likes of Ndidi who Leicester would overcharge us for.

Then you have Saul at the top of the price range. I would seriously tempt Barca with a bid on Frenkie Di Jong - the latter is THE perfect player for our midfield.

Pogba, De Jong and Bruno would be an incredible midfield.

Ndidi would indeed cost a fortune. Aurelien Tchouameni at Monaco is very similar statistically, 21 years old, reliable passer, excels in both aerial and ground duels (Ndidi is one of only four players in Europe to win more tackles than Tchouameni this season).

Interesting, he sounds like one to watch.

DM is a position I’m desperate for us to improve on. It’s a frustrating one as there isn’t the abundance of players available that you usually get in most other positions.

I don't know why he'd go all in on Mourinho like this, especially as he'd have been aware of Mourinho's past spells. Spurs also have a huge loan to pay out for their new stadium. Whatever happens, Levy has to fully support Mourinho.
Inexplicable. Everyone knew Mourinho was finished and bad news.

I'm a big Jose fan. Reckon if he directly followed Sir Alex he would've seen success here. Sad to see his fall to be honest. Time for international football squire

In December I read in the press that I could leave. I immediately went to the coach and asked him: ‘Do I still fit into your plans?’ He replied: ‘Yes, but there will be competition. It will be difficult to guarantee your chances of playing, but you are in my plans’. When he said that, it was clear to me that I wanted to stay.

[On why he rejected West Brom's offer in January] That is why and also because I did not want to leave in January. In the summer you have more time to weigh up the pros and cons and make a well-considered choice. Maybe I want to take on a challenge in another country. I do think that my agent has spoken to people from Club Brugge. I will always respect the Belgian league, but it is not the time to return yet.

  • No formal offer yet
  • Hope for renewal based on his application and attitude behind the scenes
  • Juventus inquired about Pogba in January, but Pogba himself was only focused on United

Sources: Cadena SER's El Larguero (reliable) and La Razón (less reliable)

El Larguero say that Saúl is likely to leave Atlético de Madrid in the summer and that the situation is irreversible. The player himself wants to leave, and he is slowly losing support in the dressing room.

La Razón add some of their own info onto that and say that United are the only club that are seemingly interested in Saúl. Apparently, we're willing to offer only 35-50 million Euros even though his release clause is 150 million Euros.

EDIT: additional info

Of course, Saul has lost prominence and confidence [from the dressing room,] and it is not the same thing that has made a difference in these years. He plans to change the air [i.e. change teams] at the end of the season to return to having good vibes (as advanced by @Tala_Radio), but now is not the time. There are other priorities, there is a League.
It looks like we'll have a proper transfer saga with Saúl in the summer.

It’s still too early to talk about what the future will bring. My contract with VfB ends in the summer and then I will return to Arsenal for the time being. But I can already imagine playing here for another year, because I feel good at VfB and the Bundesliga is very challenging.

Buendia's agent Gustavo Goni:
Already in the first season, in the Premier League, he showed that he can be a protagonist and now, after relegation, he’s shown that he’s matured. He’s becoming an absolute crack, next season in the Premier…Whether he’s at Norwich or at other interested clubs, we will see it in complete tranquillity.

If this is true, i'd strip him of the captaincy... Part of the job is helping his team-mates and in his case his CB partner first and fore-most adapt and give their best regardless of where they come from.

Weren't those exact figures quoted for Bayern only last week? For €35m I'd take him, think if he can rediscover his form he'd be great for us in CM.

They initially were, yeah, and maybe La Razón have decided to use similar figured given that Saúl is probably leaving Atlético this summer.

Hard to believe no Premier League club took a punt on him last summer.

Would’ve been a great signing for teams in the bottom 10 and maybe even a few in the top half.
Cost and Covid. During normal times, he would have been taken by now. He isn't going below 35m and not many bottom clubs has that kind of money

Honestly, Mourinho probably demanded it and Tottenham weren't really in the best negotiating position after making the rash decision of sacking Poch.

His next contract, however...

For 35M we should definitely go for it, for 50M Im not o sure. He was great a couple of seasons ago but performances have gone south. Still he'll be an improvement over Fred/McTominay.

Would have taken him a couple of years ago. Hearing his form a dropped though? We seem to be linked with a move for him every summer...

Saul is a fantastic player. Even at his worst, he is a Herrera level player.
I love Saul and have wanted him for years, but I'm not sure how you fit him, Bruno and Pogba in a midfield together. Same issue of no true DM. He'd work perfectly with either Pogba or Bruno though.

Have wanted to sign Saul for years and that price seems like an absolute bargain, however my gut feeling is that we are only looking at him if Pogba leaves. I would also still love to see us take Ramos for a couple of seasons but know his lack of pace could be an issue in this league. Someone suggested in another thread of a summer consisting of those two plus Sancho and would definitely take that but very little chance.

Possibly. However, I feel like Ole is not really looking for a specialist DM. The 2 midfielders in his 4-2-3-1 system have been box to box workhorses more often than not (Scott, Fred). Even when Matic plays he's expected to contribute to the attacking phase. I think Ole also recently mentioned the one previous teammate he would love to have in his team currently is Roy Keane the player and he was never a specialist DM. In that sense, this feels more like a Matic replacement than a creative Pogba one.

If we go into next season with Pogba, Saul, Fred and Scott as our 4 midfielders competing for the two midfield central midfield slots we would be gold.
