Can't defend set pieces and donut shaped attack. Ole needs to get rid of carrick and mckenna if he wishes to succeed at this club, because he's not got the coaching skills on his own.

You guys can enjoy your old school manager that can't coach modern football.

Poor management from Ole tonight. No subs and leaving Rashford on so long probably cost us the tropthy.

We’re not a unit. I like Ole, but he has built a midfield unit that does not make sense, on any level. There is no synergy, cohesion, no one touch play, no triangles. The anti-hipsters will of course come and mock us ‘pattern of play’ guys - but at this level it is far from good enough. Our midfield only knows what to do when it doesn’t have the ball. We cannot pass through a team.
You guys have one of the most regressive football fans at top level clubs. That's why you won't win as long as those fans are around.

England:
It was obvious that Solskjaer gave up on the match before ET and was concentrating on the penalty shootout.

We had the bastards on the ropes at the end of second half and if we had continued that intensity in ET we would have broken them down.

I’m dumbstruck. One of the worst managerial performances I’ve ever seen. Why didn’t he hook Rashford? Why didn’t he make any subs until the 107th minute? Why didn’t he change the tactics? Why didn’t he bring Henderson on for the penalties?

It’s just unbelievable.

You guys supported Ole when he was only the interim manager. The fans practically appointed Ole.
He got himself appointed with brilliant performances, including Jesse Lingard moonwalking in your gaff.

That game was begging for Amad or Mata or even VDB type players.

The way Villarreal smothered space, we needed high technique players who can work in small areas with fewer touches. It didn't take a Guardiola-tier manager to see that. It's genuinely worrying that Solskjaer didn't.

To make it even worse, one of the only 'early' (!) subs we made was taking off one of those players in Greenwood.

I'm still in disbelief that Rashford lasted 120 minutes. Then bringing Dan James on...jesus.
100%

That's my biggest concern. His game management cost us the trophy.

Your manager is clearly doing a great job.
We don't have the spending powers of your team. We have a mediore manager with limited funds. You guys have the most fund in the league bar Man City.

Your fanbase can't recognise a new manager bounch. Winning games with counter-attacking football is not a sign that the manager is a good manager.

Does it look like we're enjoying it!
Many fans seem to do when Ole is winning, even if it was a bad win.

Eh? How much have you spent on players? Pepe cost nearly £70m. You’ve spent plenty, got a good squad and finished 9th which is abysmal.

I do still think Ole needs fresh ideas and some different coaches to work with. I feel like we'll rely on new players to freshen things up, and yeah that could work, but surely we've got to be looking at the overall picture. I believe Ole has a place here, but surely he should take a page out of Fergie's book and look at the staff around him to spice things up.

If Ole persists with his coaching staff who are clearly not good enough, then i'll be glad to see him go. I was panicking everytime we conceded a set piece, how has a weakness this obvious not been ironed out yet? Won't even mention us being unable to create clear cut chances.

Unfortunately, this is partly true with a lot of the ex-Utd players lapping it up after the 2 years of shite with Mourinho. There was a group of us, who were skeptical though and even when I look back at my comments during that initial run, I was still critical of the freespirited (i.e of micro coaching) approach to games.

At no point tonight with any impact did I think he would change the personnel or system to adapt to the low block wall we came up against. I knew his only hope was an individual spark from one of the front 5 to nick a goal. That’s not only shocking but very worrying. We’re stuck.

The performances werent brilliant nor were the results sustainable. The biggest new-manager bounce ever.

You're absolutely spot on, but will take years for most United fans to realise. Just like with Mourinho and van Gaal. They were quite quick with Moyes at least.

Ole was not meant to be the long term manager. The glazers listened to the fans and changed their mind.

I find the Utd fanbase to be one of the least tactically astute fanbase of all the major clubs. There's this obession against "hipster" managers. I guess too many fans never had to think tactially since the days of Ferguson.

I'd second this. They still can't see that Ole-ball leads to nothing, in his 3rd season. It's fully reliant on individual quality.

Yes, he's a better manager than Arteta. And he should be baring in mind he's been managing for 10 years as opposed to just 18 months like the latter. And yet one has won a trophy for their respective club and the other bottles it everytime he comes close with some bewildering tactical decisions. Don't get me wrong, I don't want Arteta here or think he's even doing even close to a good job, but if being better than Arteta is now the bar for Manchester United manager, then we have some low fecking standards.

Man Utd as one of the biggest if not the biggest club in the world deserve a world class manager.

This shows the owners have no ambition and vision for the club. Ed and Glazers knows nothing about football. To them, money is everything.

It's the fans that don't want Ole sacked.

Finally I think everyone can see it now. We were rubbish tonight. Management rubbish, players rubbish, everything. Rashford is so overrated it's untrue.
Stick around and read a few of the longer threads created after the final. You'd be surprised.

Some people treat supporting the current manager, and especially this one, as a religion.

Unfortunately, this is partly true. Many Man Utd fans take finishing 2nd as progress regardless of the style of play. It's madness to think we can drop so far from SAF time.

Also, agree that Man Utd fans are the least tactical astute fans amongst the big clubs in Europe.

If the style of play Ole (quite similar to Jose, LVG, Moyes - defensive/boring) implemented here in RM, Barca, BM he would be gone in no time. White handkerchief will be all over the stadium!

We, the Man Utd fans, deserve the last 8 years and more to come if we continue to have this kind of mentality.

Need a new manager but will not happen. Ole has taken us as far as possible. But as long as he can finish top 4, he won't be sacked.

The final was so emblematic of our past seasons

Concede first
Concede from set piece
Relying on individual brilliance to repair the damage
Struggling to create against a team sat back

The biggest worry is other teams are coming back, our huge flaws could be exposed next season. We desperately need to stop these set pieces and to create space in attack with a higher level of passing and movement that can come with coaching. You also have to sign players with this in mind, it will break down with some no matter what. Ole needs some technical help if he is to stay.

Do you have any idea how long it took your club to realize even after the 8-2 mauling that your ‘old school manager’ was done with coaching ‘modern football’?
Answer: AGES.

At least ours won’t take that long. And even so far under Ole, we haven’t reached embarrassment levels of that stature yet. You know? The level, where you can go from a clubs main rival to their favourite spanking joke in club football.

Lastly, you guys have done amazing hiring a modern football manager eh? Same position as last season if I’m not wrong.

I’d continue having a laugh at your expense but I’ll let you sleep over my current comments for now before I share the rest.

Its a poorly hidden secret that Ole does very little of the day to day coaching himself, but hes still responsible for picking his coaches. If he chooses to die on he Carrick/McKenna hill then so be it, but its a bit weird imo

Everyone struggles with low blocks, but we are especially bad at them. What is even worse is our complete inability to deal with balls into our own box.

We wont win shit as long as every set piece against is a huge chance to concede
