Not sure what the issue is. Pogba had a great tournament and capped it off with a wonderful strike tonight...yet his team still lost.
He was on full display tonight, however Switzerland happily stood off him for the most part of the match and allowed him to dictate from deep or wherever. He got into a lot of familiar positions and situations we're all accustomed to by now. When Switzerland was going for it late, Pogba got robbed of possession in the middle of the park. Transition led to the tying goal. Sucks and it shouldn't overshadow what he did, but it cannot be ignored.
France's shit first half was more because they went with an untraditional back 3 and immediately changed it when there was a streaker and then half time by taking out Lenglet. They matched up better with the Swiss across the pitch and it pushed them back a bit, creating more space because players had to pick up another player going forward.
The central midfield of Pogba and Kante were too open than they traditionally have been with a 3 man midfield as they had a lot of work to do and they lost a lot of their shape off the ball at times. Compared to the WC or earlier this tournament, France were a bit open and less in control. They deviated from 3 central mids and it showed.
Pogba was the best player on the pitch tonight. Expecting him to do what he did tonight at club level for United is fine, because he's put on some damn world class performances throughout the past couple of seasons. But it gets lost in the negativity and vitriol some people have against United, even while claiming their supporters of the club.
