Cristiano Ronaldo: Man Utd in talks to sign Juventus forward

Manchester United are in talks to sign Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus.

Rivals Manchester City have decided not to pursue a deal for the 36-year-old after considering the matter carefully.

Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri confirmed Ronaldo had said he "no longer has any intention" of playing for the Italian giants.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said Ronaldo "knows that we are here" during a press conference on Friday.

Is anyone actually pleased that this is happening?

We don't need a 36yo Ronaldo. If he tarnishes his legacy by going to City, so be it. Why do we have to offer him a retirement home?
Cavani will likely not play much this year. Look at his impact last year. Now replace that with Ronaldo. That's right

Well, it was fun while it lasted. But this makes my footballing world slightly more right than the City move ^^

Shift Pogba back to midfield, go with the front 3 and Bruno. That should help our midfield along for now. Then buy someone to fill in for Pogba next year.

I can’t help but feel like In 2 seasons we will look back and think of this as another expensive player we probably need to get off our books before we can free up cash and advance, and we mostly moved because city were interested. They end up looking smarter by adding 3 up and comers for the same wages. Only 1 needs to come good.

Hey I hope ronaldo leads us to the league and CL but like Juve and Portugal recently I can just see a lot of parked busses and frustrated prima donna on the biggest money ever earned in the PL.

I don't even care if our midfield can't cope with Southampton, Burnley or Norwich press. I just want Ronaldo back at United and I'm shameless about it

I do somewhat agree but compared to the alternative - him going to City - us signing him is a no brainier.
Oh yes, 100% with you, I would hate to see him at City but it's still risky business and might destroy a 2 year project we have been building here.

If it does happen it’s going to be strange seeing such a different type of player to when he left. I hope he still does the chop occasionally.

Yes. Very pleased. If he needs a place to retire, while banging inn another hundred goals before actually doing so, Old Trafford can be his retirement home.

To be honest, I think bringing him back is a bad idea.

WHY? WE SIGNED IBRA WHEN HE WAS 34 AND HE BAGGED 28 GOALS, DO YOU DOUBT CR7? DO YOU??? DO YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cristiano will be our RvP this year.

Best retract my statement from this morning
Best thing since sliced bread Ronaldo!
Viva Ronaldo!!!

I'm obviously out the loop then because I pretty much only pay attention to Fabrizio these days. He seems to first to everything and rarely wrong.
Romano is more scattergun who has links and is independent(?) — as in, alone, not the ‘paper — so it’s easier for him to stick himself onto things.

Ducker has a seniority and prestige to his work that requires him to only really speak on things like this when it’s actually on. Not saying he’s always right or anything, but he’s much more reluctant to put himself on something than Romano would be.
