So many fans were too willing to aim abuse after him missing 1 opportunity.

He has been absolutely terrible in this half and even missed alone with the GK when he was finally given a chance, miracle if he plays more minutes in this game. Wish he had a third of the hunger of Haaland and the likes, he just jogs around like he doesn’t care, presses like I did back in the day... pathetic. How can you not care more about being a great footballer? Difficult to understand.
Not that it should matter
But I wonder if the big move happened too soon.
He was a rushed signing after all to appease the fans

It’s good that he played (for fitness) and good that he scored (for confidence). But his performance was far from brilliant today

Wasnt Emile Heskey all work rate and relentlessly running the channels?

Weird comparison.
Not so weird when you watch how Martial dribbles these days. He has a heavy touch not unlike the great Emile

So many fans were too willing to aim abuse after him missing 1 opportunity.
wtf  way too dramatic here.

that chance he missed would have been put away in his sleep in 2019/20, and even previous seasons i'd back him to easily score.
i don't buy this is to do with laziness. something deeper has gone wrong.

e - as @kouroux said his touch is also heavier. everything has gone wrong.

Maybe, but judging by the reactions you’d be forgiven for thinking he played for a rival.
it’s clear he’s lost his confidence and still building up fitness and his own fans are eager to join the pile on.

Good thing that he scored. He will need to perform well to move away at some point anyway. Will benefit for us while he is here.

He played for France tonight. Most caftards don't care about that

I have no doubt that it's got feck all to do with being lazy. This word gets thrown around too easily. Martial seems like a broken player to me, I hope he gets some swagger back. He seems so timid when he plays.

Followed this thread tonight whilst keeping an eye on his game. Played 1 bagged 1. Don’t understand why own fans slagging him

He's barely scored in the last 12 months so any kind of goal is welcome.

Hoping it gives him a boost in confidence because it would benefit Utd.

Did you watch the game? His performance was mediocre at best. He scored (which is certainly good), but he wasted a 1-on-1 and was generally invisible.

Posters wouldn’t have treated Dan James like this. Give him a rest it’s boarder line hate.

Take a break.

It was a good save from the keeper, not some horrible miss from Martial like some of you lots want to make it sound.

Glad to hear he scored. He needs the confidence boost.

People comments on 1 miss just tell about their hatred towards him.

He didn't set the stage fire. Scored only Goal for France and was their better player.

Made runs throughout the game. Final ball came only once for him which he missed. But he made those runs through out the game

Was better than Griezman but coach subbed him off for Benzema and kept Griezman.

Didn't see the game but glad to see he scored. Anyone got a clip of his missed chance?

Of course a number of posters are unable to at least be happy that a United player who is at rock-bottom confidence wise scored. Let’s just ridicule him for not bagging a double.

Anyone reacting like this doesn’t get to celebrate when Martial next scores as their hatred towards Martial clearly outweighs their support for United.

It's rather bizarre why he elicits such strong negative reactions from some of our fans. I mean you don't have to like him, sure. But displaying this level of empathy, trying to shit on anything good he does when he's one of our players, is something that's hard to explain.

I've almost always got middle of the road views, and the same applies with Martial.

Obviously some of the criticism goes way overboard - that's typical of social media. But, also typical of social media, there's always some who take it too far the other way and start mocking any criticism - no matter how valid.

It's Martial's first international goal in 5 years, and only his 2nd in 29 appearances. And he's only really had two good scoring seasons out of 6 with us. But, on the flip side, he's played 29 times for his country by the time he's 25, and has played over 250 times for Man United so far. So he's clearly got a lot of ability, and some of the mocking criticism goes way too far. But, his scoring stats, and his inconsistency, show that he's clearly underperforming when it comes to end product so some of the mocking of that criticism also goes too far.

In short, a talented but inconsistent player who deserves some criticism - but not as much as some give him. And deserves some praise and backing, but not as much as some others give him.

 I get why he has such massive fanbase. Watching his highlights...it's glorious.

His best contribution last season was holding up the ball and winning a pen against City. I saw 0 glimpses of old Martial over the course of the season. Even over the hill Rooney had glimpses of brilliance. It's the biggest reason why I'm comfortable writing Martial off.

about the highlight that someone published : That's what I'm asking for the last 4 or 5 years now
