Over rated player anyway who is still chanted for years later. Lots of similar quality players have long since been forgotten. The chant has more to do with the Liverpool connection.

Chelsea (the saviours of football) fan.
Catchy as it was, the song was basically saying "your country does something we don't like but it's not as bad as being from Liverpool".

You lot love him and I trust you'll come up with something he can be proud of. What rhymes with "three lungs"?

I have to say Ive sung this many times and in fact Id put in the Top5 best chants I can remember because its actually very clever

Ive never felt it was racist (there are a few others chants over the years which I have not felt comfortable to sing), people in South Korea do have a history of eating dogs which TBF they are trying to move away from
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/sep/27/south-korean-president-suggests-ban-on-eating-dog-meat

But I guess times change and since Park himself asks I will not sing it anymore

I've always assumed that football chants are sang and received with a sort of knowing acceptance between both sets of supporters that there's no real malice there.
Pretty sure there's malice in us singing chants towards Scousers about murdering people/their own and them, City, Leeds etc singing Munich stuff.

So if I’m right you’re saying Park was as good as Ronaldo
No but it just shows how highly appreciated he was by teammates. During lockdown last year I re watched a lot of our games from 2006-2009 and Park was one of our stand out players. He was better than I even remembered. He always turned up in big games.

I'm sure Pirlo still has nightmares over him. Park played him off the pitch in both legs.

I’m sure he barely remembers him. He worked hard but lacked quality. Why post something from Rooney saying something absolutely ridiculous? Rooney has a massive ego in any case.

Pfffft. Are there still people who don't rate his contribution? Guaranteed that number will include neither his boss nor any of his teammates.

Wait, what's clever about it?
In a few lines this song:
- acknowledges the heritage of our first ever major Asian player (Dong need not apply)
- comments on general opposition to the tradition of eating dogs in some countries
- slags off our mortal enemies

Works on multiple levels, amazing stuff for a few pissed up guys in the pub to come up with - it is only because it is such a great chant that it is still rolled out now and again on matchdays

Some chants that might just be ribbing from those who sing them can also be pretty malicious, 'always the victims' at Liverpool, Adam Johnson pedophile song, the Scouser's 'Howard Webb, hes a red, he sleeps in Fergie bed' etc...

Then there are the truly unfunny ones that make fun of a person physical apperance like Shelvey's Lord Voldemort song, 'Suarez/Zlatan/Oezil, your teeth/nose/eye are offside'

You’re going to have to help me out with this, my guy.

Park wants you to stop singing his chant because it’s offensive.

You think he’s overrated. Ok.

What’s the connection?

It’s a Park thread. There’s better players than him we don’t still sing about and the fact we do is more about the reference to Liverpool. It’s not an issue for us to stop singing about him if he wants us to stop.

But………isn’t it a traditional practice in Korea to eat dog meat?

So how can it be offensive to state a fact?

I’m genuinely confused so by all means please educate me on why this is offensive/wrong to sing
For a bit of context the ‘tradition’ if you can call it that involves beating the dogs whilst still alive to tenderise the meat. Almost all Koreans are against this for obvious reasons, it’s animal cruelty.

So it’s more akin to saying all Spanish people terrorise and butcher bulls for sport, or all British people do that to Foxes for a bit if fun on a Sunday afternoon - than it is to say all Spanish eat chorizo or all Brits drink tea or whatever.

Nobody likes to be generalised for a certain behaviour, especially when they’ve never done it themselves and are strongly morally against it.

Is it really that hard for people to see why they’d be offended by that?

China has the dog meat festival though doesn't it? Maybe we should get a player from the Faroe Islands. Sure we could put a decent whale murdering chant together for him.
Japan will suffice. Pity we didn't do one for Kagawa huh.

Dog eating is confined to some parts of that region but it is slowly but surely dying off. An overwhelming majority of young people don't want to be associated with it, hence the request from Park.

I never said that. Of course stop singing it as he asked. But people are wrong saying that it is racist or xenophobic, that is totally different to stereotypes, especially if people are known to do the stereotype.
so Park is known to eat dog meat is he?

It's a catchy wee song but racist. I am sure Park does not eat dog in South Korea and I imagine only the poorest people there eat dog.

And there goes a bit more of my faith in humanity, could have did without ever knowing about that. Brutal.

Our chants are largely pretty shit or unoriginal. Vidic was bothered by 'he comes from Serbia, he's gonna murder ya', Park by this dog meat stuff, Lukaku by the penis song, Wenger got a chant saying he is a pedo, then the 'Viva Ronaldo' and 'Oh Robin van Persie' are just plain boring.

The Martial chant is probbaly the best of the lot in recent years.
I wish our fans were as imaginative as the lads behind Chelsea Chelsea Chelsea chant

It's shit chant anyway, and if it's purpose is to be a tribute to Park and he doesn't like it then there's no point to it. But can you explain why you think it's racist?

Is there a place online where one can do that?

Well, it's clearly rooted in a stereotype about people from a certain part of the world. Maybe racism isn't the exact word but it's definitely derogatory.

I would take a prime Ji-Sung on this squad over McFred. If only the latter had half the footballing brain that PJS had...

If a black person says calling another person the N word is fine, I can't question it because I'm white?
I'd hope you were perceptive enough to know that a black person using the term is reclaiming it and that use in that context is reducing the power of the racism. And that they don't need a white person's permission to do so.

It should also come as no surprise that Korean people might just find the dog eating thing a tad racist. If a person tells you that something that a stereotype is insulting/racist/unwelcome why wouldn't you take that at face value and comply unless you were a massive cnut?

It's a funny chant but how did noone realize it was racist until now? It is so blatantly obvious like saying you're one of the good ones.
