Why would this have to take months. It's not that complicated is it? They should just tell everyone to shut the feck up and make them share the trophy.

I hope that's it to be honest but Masi needs to be sacked and they need to sort out the rules.

Congratulations Max, well deserved - both him and Lewis were in a class of their own this year.

Sky reading it out now. Essentially, the FIA have said that Masi can do what he wants. Genuinely. That’s their ruling.
how dare mercedes have the gall to try and use the fia’s own rules against them.

This is like Boris and his government investigating themselves. FIA is as corrupt as you'd expect a sport body to be and I am not surprised.

They've made F1 into what Florentino Perez wanted the Super League to be - perfect for the TikTok fan.

Overturning the decision in retrospect would have been bad for the sport. However, the fact is they made a decision one lap before the end of the championship to go against the established rule book (their own rule book btw) and literally hand Verstappen the title, leaves a sour taste. If they let the race finish with a safety car, no one (except Mr Whinger in Chief aka Horner) would have objected to this, as Ham was clearly better on the day.

You cannot go against the grain in such a massive decision and expect people to just roll over and accept it. Mercedes should fight it to the CAS, even if it's somewhat of a causa perduta.

No matter the result of the appeal neither team should bring this to CAS. Accept the result and move on. Dragging it out only damages the sport
So when there is a horrific decision, you just accept it rather than fighting in a court of law to change it?

I would hope anyone with any sense of fairness would find randomly deciding to change the rules in the last few laps of a title deciding last race is pretty gross.

Absolutely no integrity.

The Stewards consider that the protest is admissible.
Having considered the various statements made by the parties the Stewards determine the following:
That Article 15.3 allows the Race Director to control the use of the safety car, which in our determination includes its deployment and withdrawal.
That although Article 48.12 may not have been applied fully, in relation to the safety car returning to the pits at the end of the following lap, Article 48.13 overrides that and once the message “Safety Car in this lap” has been displayed, it is mandatory to withdraw the safety car at the end of that lap.
That notwithstanding Mercedes’ request that the Stewards remediate the matter by amending the classification to reflect the positions at the end of the penultimate lap, this is a step that the Stewards believe is effectively shortening the race retrospectively, and hence not appropriate.
Accordingly, the Protest is dismissed. The Protest Deposit is not refunded.

Competitors are reminded that they have the right to appeal certain decisions of the Stewards, in accordance with Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code and Chapter 4 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules, within the applicable time limits

What an absolute sham, I doubt I'll be invested in the next F1 season after this complete fix. Hopefully Mercedes go through with going to CAS with that lawyer they hired and embarrass the FIA in front of the whole sporting world. Disgraceful stuff from the FIA and what a stain on F1 as a whole.

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"
I get that Hamilton got screwed, but what rules /laws were supposedly contrevened?
You can't pick and choose which cars can unlap themselves (should be all (if safe) not just the ones between Max and Lewis) and then the safety car should've stayed out longer.

The allegation is they ignored some parts of the rules to give Max a final shot at winning it (or not) on the track.

Do you genuinely feel like there was no wrong doing from the FIA?
I think there's been mistakes throughout the season.
It all came down to this, so obviously it will be heavily talked about, but you could argue many of the rules are a bit iffy.
Some have benefited Hamilton this season

FIA managed to do that just fine
Not sure mate.
The damage is already done.
I should have put the word more at the end of that sentence.
The FIA fecked up (I'll be interested to see what their take on it is) but it does nobody any good to drag it out.

Just seen Max win is confirmed. Well done Max and Red Bull, that was a hell of a season

Yeah "masi can decide who wins what race and how, can make up rules on the fly and do whatever the feck he likes, he's currently banging your wife and there's nothing you can do about it"
