Just a week into my unemployed save and despite loading all the leagues in Europe, my first offer comes from Llanelli Town in Wales  semi-pro team in Welsh 2nd division.

Had envisaged starting abroad but decided to get stuck in earlier, rather than wait for something else. So Wales it is!

Predicted to finish midtable and I'm 4th after 10 games. Mixing it up between a wingplay 4-4-2 and a counter attacking 4-4-1-1.

So bizarre going from managing United in my last save, with a coaching/scouting/medical team of probably around 60+ staff, to just a part time crew of about 5 staff members.
It's good fun if you stick with it. I waited 6 months for an offer and ended up in the second division of Holland. Think I got lucky!

I've actually played for them in real life

 No way - hope I can do them justice!
Although let's be honest, I'm dropping them the moment a better offer comes in...
I made 4 appearances in total. They signed me from Porthmadog who were Welsh Premier league at the time. I never made an appearance for them though.

I'm quite enjoying playing with Cefn Druids, I started with no qualifications and a Sunday League player.

I'm in my third season, the board have allowed me to take my coaching badges up to Continental C. But don't seem to want to let me go further due to the risk of losing me.

Long term, part time is a nightmare. It seems staff can only have one year deals. I have coaches on Month to Month contracts. They signed deals for £15 p/w, want £170 p/w to renew and I can only offer £110.

Players released from Premiership clubs won't join me on trial, but some will sign £5 p/w part time contracts for two seasons

It was going to be my Journeyman save, but if they let me go full time I may stick around.

I hate Bayern, a lot. Just ran them so close for the league after a pretty incredible run with RB Leipzig and it still wasn't enough, lost the league on goal difference +1.

I can't remember why I joined this war.
Absolute madness, my director of football, Frank Baumann, must have a shopping addiction. At least that's the only way I can explain why he has brought in 14 players to my 3rd team, which has now 32 players, and they are all completely shite.

Next game against Bayern, next loss. German cup quarter-final, this time 1-2, but we got off easy with that one. Neither can my team deal with Bayern's aggressive pressing nor with their marauding fullbacks. Davies and Kimmich are just running riot and not even man marking them with my wingers helped. But hey going from 6-1 to 3-1 to 2-1 is progress I feel, maybe next time we'll manage a draw.

I was playing as Borussia MunchingGladMan in 21. Not sure if it helps, but I used to switch it up for Bayern. Went high line, high pressing, quick tempo, focusing on short and vertical passing. The idea is that we were slightly open but we'd focus on being able to hit them on the counter or push them back every time we got the ball.
It was the only way I was able to beat them. Anything else and I got stomped.

In 21 Bayern was shit, I regularly beat them with ease. The meta shifted and patch 22.3 I feel like Nagelsmann is net new Klopp and Bayern the new Liverpool, they also won the CL with ease in the first season. They are just brutal in FM22 in the current ME version.

Tried the direct counter attacking style in my first game against them, the one I lost 6-1.

Weymouth Update:

The finish to last season that saw us moved away from the drop zone and finishing a remarkable 13th gave me a good chance to build on that and kick on. Pre-season was decent, beating Bolton and Stevenage of League One and I thought that a good start would be forthcoming.

first 2 games:

Oldham 3-2 Weymouth
Weymouth 1-3 Dover.

Annoying, but I wasn't displeased with either performance, in fact, we should have won both games.

We then travelled to Dagenham and I feared the worst. It was our first Tuesday night game. with a very small, part time side, you can imagine the sort of performances we tend to offer in those games.

Dag & Red 2-3 Weymouth and we were off and running.

After the first win, we are playing well.....no, we are perfoming brilliantly. I got offered a new contract in September and I only signed a new one in April. We are top of the league after 17 games and just beat Barrow to leapfrog them.

Next up is away to Stevenage in the first round of the FA Cup. (But first, I have to walk the dog)

Does anyone have any advice on why my box to box midfielders tend to perform poorly in a 433 gengenpress. It’s a pretty standard high intensity pressing system, with a mezzala, B2B then a DLP behind them.

I’m thinking of changing the defensive midfielder to the role of DM or BWM, but I don’t see why a B2B would have poor ratings in this system, it’s perfect for them.

I am way out performing my squad ability, but it just annoys me to see those two positions always rated lower than a 7 on average, despite winning multiple league titles in a row.

On my journeyman save, they have now won 21 out of 22 games, there is absolutely no stopping them.
They have sold a lot this summer window and not really replaced so another chance if my side can kick on a bit. I won’t hold my breath though.

L.Moscow update:

My reward for finishing ahead of Fiorentina in the Europa Conference group was a bye...until the next round I was drawn against Fiorentina who promptly knocked me out. 1-0 away loss and then a frustrating 0-0 draw at home. Belotti would have scored, I'm sure of it.

Depends what you have around them, and whether the players in the role are suited to the job.

Second season with Bremen done. Lead them straight into the CL, couldn't hold on to second place due to a very bad run from mid-February to the end of March, which saw my 12 points distance to a non CL spot melt down to a measly 4 points. Had a lot of injuries and 10th yellow card.

My goal scoring really dried up during the second part of the season when teams went more and more defensive against me.

Bayern couldn't hold their superb record either, and after they had won the league in mid March lost one game and drew 3 more games.

That being said they are in the German cup final and in the CL final again.

For next season I finally have an useable transfer budget of 46M, feels like I might actually manage to buy some decent players, although not really the cream of the crop talents.

Belotti:(

I saw yesterday that Russian rules are being relaxed in the future and that there is even a patch for it on SI.

Apparently in the update, you will be allowed 11 foreigners and 8 on the pitch, which would make a massive difference I am sure!

Ive gone with a CM trio of a B2B, attacking AP and defensive BWM. In my head it made sense that one was defensive and one was attacking so they wouldn’t get in each other’s way, and the B2B works between them in that support role. Been working for me at every team I’ve played with - Norwegian PL -> Serie A -> PL -> Ligue 1.

The players are playing in preferred roles and there shouldn’t be anything wrong with what is around them, everyone else has really high ratings and the tactics are definitely strong. I’m going to try switching them and having a pure DM ball winner type, then my DLP as a CM.

There seems to be a massive lack of B2B regens coming through, so this would probably benefit me if it works.

That’s kind of how I was viewing it but with a playmaker in the DM role, as it suited the players that I had more. We’ll see how it goes with the playmaker further up and the ball winner at DM, hopefully it doesn’t feck up my champions league run.

Maybe try an RPM in the CM slot then? So you can keep the intensity while embodying both roles?

A DLP feels kinda static in a high intensity system. Just my opinion.

You could also try keeping the BBM and alternating the DM role.
And perhaps switching the MEZ to an AP.
I usually try to have just one roaming role in midfield.

I personally use a slight variation of this, but mine is more possession-oriented. So, it's a HB in the DM role, DLP in the CM role and a BBM next to him, who with Personal Instructions plays a hybrid 8/10 sort of role.

I usually love the BBM role but I can’t get it to work that well in this version. The players have decent highs and atrocious lows in that role. I changed it to a ball winner currently and it’s working better

Feck, now I have a decision to make. Sevilla approached me. Kicker, they are not a CL side, only finished 6th but their squad is way better than mine and I feel in the long run they have the better financial perspective compared to Bremen who never seem to have any money. On the other hand I'll have to play EL instead of CL.

And Bayern wins the fecking treble, another CL win against PSG, on penalties this time.

After some further inspection I actually decided against the Sevilla job, I want to take that year of CL football at Bremen and let my contract run out, after that I'm going to wait what offers come.

You have no idea mate.

I had a couple of 1-0 defeats that were really unlucky, but just bounced back with a 5-2 victory away at Solihull Moors who were 4th. 2nd in the table 3 points behind Barrow now in December. The congestion this month is mental though so i'm a bit concerned.

I am commentating on the United game in a min though so I've had to stop for work. (live on the flashscore app if anybody is interested)

Not sure I’ve got the players for a RPM at the moment but I seem to have got some decent performances from my DM so far, so I’m going to stick with this and see how it goes.

Stay with Bremen! The quality of loans you can bring in with Cl football will be tremendous. Lots of wonder kids in South America with release clauses to be scouted too.

It will mean more having a good season with Bremen in the CL and it will be a whole lot more enjoyable.

Sevilla always win the Europa anyway, so you can only fail there!

Bétis Update

Final one of the season, as we started 2 points behind Barcelona with 6 games left. Could we do the unthinkable and win La Liga in my first full season?

We started off with a 3-1 win at home to Elche. Thank goodness green morale came back! We look like a team again!

I click on and realize that Barcelona have gone and lost to Villarreal! It’s on!

…and it got better! We walloped Legranes on the Saturday (European Golden Shoe and Player of the Year, Silvio Luiz, absolutely terrorizing them) , 6-0, and then sat down to watch Barcelona lose to bottom club Gijon (2-1). Incredible and baffling scenes…

All of a sudden, the run in we had feared looks much better with a lead! They had bottled it. They get beaten 3-1 by Spurs in the Europa and it’s all falling apart!

We went to a team I always lose to, Sociedad, and smashed and grabbed a 2-0 win with, that man, Bruno Iglesias sealing the win in the 91st minute!

Barcelona then go and lose to Alaves on the Sunday (2-1). I have never seen a collapse like it!

All we need is a draw away to Granada to win La Liga! We do it in style! A 3-0 win with a Borja Iglesias penalty (his 40th goal of the season!) sealing the title (seriously, his stats are just ok, but buy this man! What a player!)

What a season!

When I saw the quality of the 7-8 wonderkids we managed to draft in over the first year at the club, I felt we had a chance going into the final 6 months. It’s the best transfer work I have ever done on a save over such a short period of time. So lucky to get so many good players at those prices.

I will do a quick season review in another post, but really incredible. It’s as tense as I have ever been playing the game and when I compare the starting squad to what I had going into the second half of my first full season, it’s definitely my best work I can remember on the game. Delighted…especially when I remember where I was at times before Bétis on this save!!

I'm also a fan of BWM this year. I have always used either DLP (D) or a DM (D) in the DM spot but this year I really like the BWM role. I pair mine with a BTB and DLP (S)

One thing I've not had great success with is using fullbacks on any other role than FB (S). Pretty much everything else makes me leak goals.

What a turnaround.

30 games gone in the season and we are top of the National League by 1 point from Crawley in second. the gap to 3rd is then 6 points so we are starting to pull away and it's looking like we might actually do this. In addition, we are in the 5th round of the FA Trophy, with a nice looking tie away to South Shields in the National League North.

I like to keep a small squad, and to be fair with my budget I don't have much choice. So I aim to have 2 very similar players for each key position and a couple of utility players that can plug holes. I've run in to three match postponements this season, plus the trophy run so I have just had a very tricky period of 4 games in 12 days with a part time, threadbare squad. 12 points thank you very much.

We now have a very well earned week off before our next game......Crawley away.

Started myself a little journeyman save. Have loaded up the South American leagues, the vast majority of Europe but left out the massive leagues, a few of the Asian leagues and Mexico.

After a couple of months searching, and being turned down by a Belarusian 2nd team who aimed to finish bottom, I got a job managing Santiago Morning in the Chilean First Division B (so the 2nd division ).
They were predicted to finish 8th but were 13th (out of 16) when I got the job. 2 wins and 6 draws so far have moved us up to 9th but it's quite tight. Only have to avoid a relegation battle then we'll see what the end of season brings. Half the squad will be leaving at the end of contracts so it could be madness.

L.Moscow update:

Went out the Russian cup the same week as the Conference league but in a tight race involving Spartak and CSKA Moscow, I won the league on the last day away at Rubin Kazan. I’ll enter the UCL qualifiers and hopefully get through.

However I end the season with my striker only scoring 14 goals, 20 goals less than Belotti got and it shows. However there’s no real upgrade on him, there’s Troy Parrot, Timothy Weah, Christian Bassagog and a 19 year old Russian striker for Spartak, all are below the quality of my current striker.

The good news is that the Russian league shot up the coefficients and now get an automatic place next season in the UCL. They also went from ranked 14th to 8th in one season in rep. So should be able to attract better players soon.

Side notes in the save:

Pep who failed to win the league at PSG in two seasons went to Milan and won the UCL, beat Barcelona in the final.

United signed 33 year old Kane for £36m and he still has won nothing in his career. Lewandowski is now Bayerns all time top goal scorer with 404 goals, 6 more than Gerd Muller. He’s 38 and scored 40 goals last season! Still the one UCL title though.

Newcastle finished 4th and won the Europa League. Liverpool and Klopp have been shite; Chelsea too. Both finished out of the top 4.

Ole is still going strong, has 2 FA cups and a league title to his name. Lost a UCL final too.

Yeah huge game. I have my daughter until 12 and then I'll load up.

There's one automatic promotion place and 2nd to 7th go in to the play offs. .I think that if I somehow pull off a league and trophy double it might actually be my best fm achievement.

Just got sacked

I was looking at the jobs available as we'd just finished the season, ended up 8th, applied for a job in the Finnish top division and was instantly booted.
