Maguire: I wouldn't be starting every game if I was playing bad or not playing well enough, there's a reason both managers put me in XI every game

Must be something in the contract re his appearances and holding onto the captaincy. No other sane reason for his place to be as secure as it is. Even with injuries to others. He can’t be any better than one of the youngsters at the club??

What a disgrace.

Every game he captains the club. Every game he plays for the club. Puts us even further back in becoming a respectable football club.

Get this fecking cnut out of my club, he's a disgrace of a captain with a relegation level mentality.

Also feck off referencing his Euro's display, as if he's fecking Baresi because he sat deep in a back 5 with two holding midfielders in front of him and didn't feck anything up

Actually Harry, you are playing because you cost £80m.

Remember when Liverpool had Moreno, and we all laughed at how awful he was every match? … imagine if they then decided to make him captain… that’s where this Manchester team are right now

No wonder we're useless on the pitch when characters like Maguire are the standard in our dressing room. Jesus Christ what a bellend.

I mean, you can see his logic? If Ralf truly thought he was awful, he would have dropped him for the rest of the season. Yet he hasn't. Clearly, what Ralf says and what he does are completely different. And actions speak louder than words.

Would have actually just accepted him cup his hands over his ears again.

This club is depressing.

I feel sorry for him. I really do. He came to United knowing it was a massive step up, knew it was a club with a rich and storied history, knew that the pressure was going to be intense. Maguire desperately wants to be a good defender. He's not trying to feck us with comical displays. He's right that it's not his fault he keeps getting picked to play. The "system" we are trying to play doesn't suit him. You, me, and everyone but the manager knows this. He is a limited footballer. If anyone is to blame it's the scouts who recommended him. I don't think Maguire deserves the abuse he gets because he has never downed tools, he's never slagged off the club, he's tried his best. He's basically a defending version of Fellaini.

That said, I don't think he's going to be part of ETH's plans. I think it's possible to criticize his bad performances without calling him a cnut and a disgrace. He's just not very good.

I don’t think I’ve liked a United player less; a waste of space. His captaincy is an insult to us all.

Play Varane and Lindelof instead = Same results.
Play Varane and Dias = Same results.

Defence is under constant threat. 3v3 or 4v4 with absolutely zero cover. Play any centreback combination you want, being 2v2 against Salah/Mane for 90 min will lose you games. Maguire is far from fantastic, but we aren't a team. We look like 11 retards trying to humb a door knob. Nobody is working together

Jesus christ... Take a look at the list of men who have captained this club and then look at this guy. Perfectly sums up why we are the shambles we are.

I wouldn't blame the scouts. Mourinho pushed us to sign him after World Cup 2018, and the scouts were the ones that said the price tag was too high for his quality. Then Solskjaer and Phelan came along and made the push again, after Maguire looked dangerous on set pieces in his last game vs utd before signing (he didn't score and they still lost), Solskjaer made a point of his aerial threat in the post match presser if I recall correctly. That combined with Phelan pushing for us to sign his old Hull City captain was enough to convince the board to pay the crazy fee. So if anyone's to blame it's Solskjaer and Phelan.

Somewhere in the Netherlands, Rafael Van der Vaart has watched this clip. And subsequently changed his undies after soiling himself with laughter.

It's like if Liverpool paid £80m for Djimi Traore and made him captain.

That makes a lot of sense. I will blame Ole and Phelan, AND blame the scouts for not scouting a proper CB.

It's not a surprising thing for him to say given his reaction when he scored that England goal. He's a bellend and a disaster of a captain. What the feck was Solksjaer thinking
He wasn't thinking, that's the problem. Was just winging it.

It was so obvious we got rinsed when we bought him...we paid Ferrari type money to buy a Toyota....he was never good enough for a team that wants to win titles and we way overpaid for him.

Looking at how he's playing, I think he knows he's in bad form but doesn't want to admit it.

Wasn't many options at the time. I was against this signing but the other choices were Ake or Tarkowski. Or stick with Smalling for another year but most people here weren't having it.

Toyota make reliable cars. Maguire is not a reliable centre back.

Would love if Ralf responds to this by actually dropping him for the next game.

Maguire is a marketing plant for social media engagement. There's no other explanation for being this delusional.

Nah he’s a disgrace. Especially as a captain of the club. Shows no fire. Doesn’t lead jack shit. Constantly fecks up simple things at the back. And amidst it all has the nerve to say this shit in an interview or fecking claps his hands over his ears scoring against a Sunday league side level country.

Such a lack of self awareness. I've defended Maguire of late but that comment is nonsensical.

The Greek police must have really done a number on him :(
This is a myth that has permeated on this forum somehow without being based on reality. He got arrested in August 2020 after his first season with the club, just last summer his fans on here were creaming themselves over his Euro performances, so how does that incident have anything to do with his current form, nearly 2 years later?

Harry Maguire is simply just not very good at football, and once he’s playing without layers of protection, his faults are laid bare for the whole world to see.
