Lukaku told Sanchez to come to Inter saying that ‘it’s very good here, there’s no clique’ in 2019.

Cliques have obviously been an issue in our dressing room loooong before Ronaldo came back. As much as I believe he himself is not conducive to the kind of team and football we should be building towards, it’s a massive cop out to pin the current unrest on him alone.

The fact of the matter is our current crop of players is not without some talent, but they are mentally weaker than a piss soaked toilet roll, all those lost semis and finals, bottling the league games whenever something is truly on the line, it’s a recurring story for the last 5 years, so that they collapsed this season shouldn’t be seen as a surprise.

Feck me, yet another car crash thread.

I swear people love to read anything negative about the club and believe it.
This is not a negative though. It’s high time trophies and winning become a part of the club. No more “trophies are for egos” nonsense.

Having Ronaldo expose the lazy, entitled and complacent in the dressing room gets a thumbs up for me.

Maybe it’s easy to find the answer:

1. If Ronaldo stay next season it’s bullshit he distrupt the dressing room or it’s actually needed distruption.

2. If Ronaldo leaves next season Dag was right, and Ronaldo did have a negative impact on the team.

My guess is that Ronaldo leave and the official statement (or excuse) is that United didn’t qualify for Champions league (CL) - which means a lot to Ronaldo. He wants to join a team who plays in CL in order to strengthen his record.

Ralf has no problem throwing a tonne of this lot under the bus, yet he’s specifically said.

“Not only the goal Cristiano scored but his whole performance, his attitude at age of 37, this is not normal to do that. If he plays like he did today he can still be a big help to this team.”

So Ralf is lauding his attitude despite him being the problem in the dressing room? Like that makes any sense. :houllier:

What´s going on in the dressing room, I have no idea, but from all the reports, something looks not to be right. It´s hard to understand how we went from dominating Liverpool in both games last season, to looking like a Championship side this season, especially of late. And it's not just the English players (Maguire, Shaw and Rashford in particular) that have been underperforming, it goes for Fernandes and Pogba as well. The only of the regulars from last season who havn't been constantly shit, is Fred, Matic, De Gea and perhaps Lindelöf, while McTominay has been on and off. Just can't get my head around it.
Did we? Drew 0-0 away (which wasn’t a bad result, but hadn’t their injury “crisis” begun by then?) and got hammered 2-4 at home.

Drew 0-0 when they had Fabinho and Henderson as their two centre backs, and Shaqiri in midfield  Then got twatted at home.

“Dominated”.

So many forget how shite we often were last season and how poorly we ended the season, before Ronaldo was even a thought in anyone’s mind.

Even if true, people like Polar somehow think this is a negative against Ronaldo, as though these players need a softy softy approach, no Keane-esque demands, and hell, they might just get us another 70 point season again. Or the Ole standard 66 point season

Indeed I do think that it is the other way round.

In the past several years, a few English/academy/young/social media loving millennial players (Lingard, Rashford, Greenwood, Shaw, Martial (now left), Pogba, etc) have formed some kind of clique themselves, and kinda isolated the international players

When Sanchez came, only Lingard showed some kind of "welcoming" to him. it is so evident that players like Rashford, Martial ignored Sanchez on the pitch back in the days. that's why Sanchez wanted to leave the club after 1 training session.

Darmain, Rojo, Blind, Romero had been their teammates for years and seems there were zero interactions between the millennial clique and those players back in the days.

Also why "joining a team who play in the CL" is an excuse? Ronaldo is mr.CL himself, his wanting to play in the CL make sense, right?
Ronaldo has a two year contract and it doesn’t matter what Ronaldo wants (in theory).

He’s been our best player and so it wouldn’t make sense to sell him for that reason. It wouldn’t be easy to replace him without paying a shitload of money (we preferable should spend on reinforcing other positions). The exemption is if Ronaldo has CL clause in his contract.

Why should we otherwise want to sell our best and most professional player? If he is our best player, “the fitting into ETH style” isn’t a good enough argument. I’ll also argue age isn’t a valid explanation when we talk about only one more year of his contract.

If no sources and unsubstantiated, thread should be deleted. Crap like this adds up in people's minds as a 'curcus' around certain players.

Who the feck is Dag Langerød?
The Scandinavian fan club knows a lot of older players. One of them and their opinions are the source. That said, who cares.

If Ronaldo are hurting some weak mentality, then I don’t give a shit. The man is a serial winner.

It all makes sense. The losers at the club had Ole at their side and all beleived Ronaldo was the problem, but then Ralph came in an identified those arrogant pricks as the problem resulting in even more issues. This way we could just forget him implementing his gegenpressing hard working style. Im sure his report to Ten Hag will be intereresting. All the years with Ole where he praised mediocrity pretty much gave birth to a loser culture in the dressing room with arrogant players thinking they were on the level with City and Pool. Esp after that freak second place the year before.

Agreed. I think it’s extremely positive, and in fairness possible knowing Ronaldo, that he’s gathering the players he sees as winners in the dressing room to be with him, and ostracising those he thinks are not. It’s time we had a culture change.

feck me, talk about framing an argument

Is that also the reason we sold him the first time around then? Cause I mean, he had time on his contract, we clearly didn’t need, nor spend the money. It’s almost as though keeping an unhappy top player who doesn’t want to be somewhere is a bad idea.

There are many reasons why Ronaldo could not be here next season, most of them have feck all to do with whether or not he’s a creator of dressing room problems.

COnfirmation bias in action on your part much?
I had a hypothesis and when I read a credible person has facts supporting it, I off course find it interesting.

I’m not blind for opposite facts. Ronaldo’s birthday picture probably also say something. Most players attended. I would definitely not join the birthday to a person who treats me as shit and ruin my days at work, but wouldn’t be surprised if some players lack integrity. Who wasn’t there and what’s their agenda?

In the longer run I tend to think we really needed to hit the ground (poor results and disruption among players) in order to finally shake up things and smoke out players. A common understanding where everyone agree an overhaul is needed. We probably need winners mentality and professionalism before happy family.

At the end of the days, players don't have to be friends with each other. Just need to do their work. This is a well-paid JOB ! Whoever can't do their job can just feck off.

Even this is true (highly doubt it) , Ronaldo is the bully and forming a gang . So what ? You still can train well, get picked by the coach to start, and play well on the pitch.

Show some characters and pride as a elite player and stop crying out with reporters, please.

Dag knows feck all. As I say, he’s barely a journo.

He’s a shit Andy Tate or Pete Boyle rip off, and I wouldn’t trust a word they have “heard either”.

He’s letting you pretend he has contacts and a network that could tell him this, he doesn’t. Let’s take the razor to it, why the feck would some nobody from Norway be the sole owner of that information ?
Well the club did actually have a Norwegian manager for the first part of this season.

Now they struggle to call him the problem on the pitch, he is now the problem in the dressing room, OK!

It’s not surprising if there are cliques in the dressing room. It’s always to the detriment of the team.

Yup. And started it, though that was excused as a lack of pre-season, and the poor ending was down to being in the Europa final. The same excuse for the latter was used to justify our terrible form at the end of Jose’s first season, though in that case we at least won the trophy.

I thought we played much better football in the second half of the previous season where we finished third, though that may have just been thanks to Bruno’s stellar form.

I suppose Ronaldo is an easy scapegoat for the Ole romantics because it’s been alleged that he was signed over his head. My wife has expressed considerable admiration for Varane; maybe he’s the cause of the split because all the English WAGs fancy him?

Apparently we’ve scored FIFTY fewer goals this season than last. Ronaldo’s scored a bunch but nobody else even looks like scoring. This article is probably bollox but I’d like to hear theories on why the arrival of a player who’s scored as many goals as Ronaldo has resulted in our goals total falling off a cliff?

Complete coincidence? Something that’s changed on the pitch? Or something that’s changed off the pitch?

Can only be one of those three things, right?

There are cliques in every dressing room, 30 players can't all be friends, naturally Ronaldo would be closer to his Portuguese speaking brothers, and the English lads would bond better among themselves, were you want the harmony is in the football, which isn't the case due to being coached by OGS (not an attack on the good man).

Rashford and Co need to have a stern look at themselves. It’s pathetic. Putting money here, £250k a week to sulk because Ronaldo and the rest isn’t hyping you to be the next Ronaldo or comparing you with Mbappe anymore. Instead Rashford is a lower level than Danny Welbeck.

There aren’t cliques in every dressing room at all. Cliques are toxic and exclusionary by definition, and yes it always impacts performance on the field. See England’s ‘golden generation’ as an example.

Cavani's body breaking down has nothing to do with Ronnie (17 goals last year). Rashford choosing England over his club has nothing to do with ronnie(should have had surgery at the end of last season and then a pre season) - 22 goals. Mason probably chips in with a few more too and we all know what happened with that. Bruno is concerning because his also missed so many chances that he usually eats up.

How can the ignore someone the barely played with they were all left wingers. Usually when Sanchez was on they were on the bench.

Our British players are a bunch of losers with inflated egos, on massive wages. If they've been marginalised I'm glad. Hopefully they all leave.
Yup. The only one worth keeping is Sancho. The rest of them can be gutted and replaced by new signings or academy products.

There is a massive difference between friendships and cliques. Cliques don’t mix at all and are fractious, whereas a larger group can have closer friends and acquaintances but all get on

So what would the group be like anyway?

Group A - Ronaldo (leader of the group), Bruno, Dalot, Varane, De Gea, Elanga (Ronaldo did ask him to do a siuuu with him so I guess he is in), Garnacho (just happily joined the group after Ronaldo gifting him the ball of hattrick)

Group B - Maguire (leader of the group), Shaw, AWB, Mctominay, Lingard(?), Rashford(?), Sancho(?), Greenwood (no longer in the group after the arrest)

Anyone else missing?

But then Lingard and Rashford idolise Ronaldo, so they probably wouldn't want to be in the opposing group. Sancho is more like a newcomer from Germany, so I am not too sure where he vows for despite his English origin.

In a classroom at school you didn't hangout with all the guys, you were cool with them but there were 2 or 3 who were your close friends. In all walks of life its the same even a squad of soldiers who depend on each other for life they still have those that are closer to them. From a social perspective it would be weird if there weren't any friend groups. Only problem is if these groups antagonize each other then that's a different story.

How many fewer did we score in 2019/2020? What changed there?

Confidence is massive in football, and after that run of absolute humiliations this season, many players have never recovered that confidence. We also brought in a manager mid season after that horrendous run, with new ideas, and it appears, who has a loathing for a tonne of players.

It’s not exactly a like for like comparison. Up until those humiliations began, we’d actually scored 17 in 10 games. That rate would have put us on 90 goals for the season so far. When you remember that we had a few freak games last year (Roma), played more games (61), played in easier competitions (EL), it’s not far off, until the humiliations, 1.7 gpg over 61 games would be 104 goals.

Also @Pogue Mahone, a few other things have clearly changed.

1. Cavani is permanently injured
2. Our wide forward positions are now occupied by new players. Sancho & Elanga now play as first choice on the wings, Sancho was automatically first choice from early doors, and both offer much less goal threat than those who previously played there.
