Ridiculous take. He was 21. Effectively still a prospect at that time.He had a terrible time dealing with the crosses and Evans looked better. SAF wanst too arsed to let him go back to spain for pennies

Fergie let him go because he knew he would never get passed Vidic and Ferdinand, and his contract was running out. Simple.Puyol is actually 5'10. Also La Liga doesn't do as many aerial balls as the PL, that's why Pique failed here.
Pique failed ? Ffs, he was only 21 when left .Puyol is actually 5'10. Also La Liga doesn't do as many aerial balls as the PL, that's why Pique failed here.
Awesome right?Who signed off on this thread title ?
Controversial and somewhat outrageous opinion but Puyol would've failed in the same circumstances as Pique, he was a good defender but heavily protected playing in exceptional Barcelona and Spain sides. While he was very good I don't think he's in the same bracket as any of the top CBs from his generation.Puyol is actually 5'10. Also La Liga doesn't do as many aerial balls as the PL, that's why Pique failed here.
That's not even new. For as long as I can remember bottom third spanish teams have had two characteristics phyisical to the point of near recklessness, Osasuna being a perfect example and very direct. The stereotype that some people only applies to top spanish teams and even then it doesn't apply to all of them. That used to be true, I don't think it is any more. From 2021:
Six of the seven highest long ball to short ball ratios belonged to Spanish teams, with the now relegated Burnley having been the sole exception.
The traditional idea of lower/mid level PL sides being hoof-ball merchants is rather outdated.
Pique didn't fail. With Vidic and Rio in their prime, SAF had to choose which young CB he wanted to gamble upon. He chose Evans over Pique as the latter wanted to re join Barca. I am sure that he's quite happy with the decision taken considering that they want him to retire against his will and forgive most of their 40m+ the club has with him.Puyol is actually 5'10. Also La Liga doesn't do as many aerial balls as the PL, that's why Pique failed here.
I’m really proud of United on this one. Fighting the good fight for equality - first PL team to sign a borrower
Bravo.
Yes there are a couple of outliers of midget centre backs who were the best ever.Cannavaro was 1.76m high, it didn’t prevent him from winning Ballon d’Or and be a great CB in general

Emphasis on the ‘mini’, amirite?!!A mini Ajax reunion. Lisandro, Frenkie and Donny + the manager
If ETH doesn't know better than most of us then we have bigger issues than Martinez not being tall.Yes there are a couple of outliers of midget centre backs who were the best ever.
But that doesn't mean that this guy will be in that company does it?
However, I'll certainly back Ten Hag and hope he knows better than most of us.
It does feel hard to believe he will bench either of Maguire or Varane regularly though. But if he does, and it works, bring it on.
Aye he was rubbish and went on to have a rubbish career. He had a terrible time dealing with the crosses and Evans looked better. SAF wanst too arsed to let him go back to spain for pennies
We need a left footed CB that's versatile thats why we are getting Martinez.why do we need another CB? surely someone is leaving?
Because the ones we have are shite and/or unreliablewhy do we need another CB? surely someone is leaving?
You would they want Jones and Tuanzebe out at least.why do we need another CB? surely someone is leaving?
Would have if he stayed here.Aye he was rubbish and went on to have a rubbish career.
Because aside from Varane they're all dog shit.why do we need another CB? surely someone is leaving?
Hope he plays in midfield often. Not so sure the centreback position is suited for him in the rough and tumble prem.People really think he’ll be a DM? Even though ten Hag has said that he isn’t one, and Martinez himself has been playing his best ever stuff at CB?
He will be our LCB with Maguire or Varane on the right.
Also, look how good he is on the ball:
It’s not even a case of he looks good on the ball for a defender. He dribbles and carries the ball nothing like a defender which is the biggest compliment I can give.
Martinez is not a midfielder (atm). Ten Hag does have the “skill” to put players on the wrong place in the field though, so maybe you’ll see a maguire on 6 and martinez on CB.Looks more of a CDM to me, can run with the ball, composed, pass.
If Ronaldo stays and United gets all their targets
----------------- De Gea
AWB Varane Maguire Shaw
------------------Martinez
-----------De Jong Fernandes
Sancho Ronaldo Eriksen/Rashford
Is hardly a bad starting XI, lots of IFs though
If it doesn’t turn out as expected, Ajax’d be very happy to buy him back for a pleasant fee. No problems there mate!Yes there are a couple of outliers of midget centre backs who were the best ever.

Then where do Maguire play? I'd drop him but he's still the captain.Because aside from Varane they're all dog shit.
But could they do it on a cold, rainy night in Stoke…?
How far away are they?Tweet

little Chef for tiny MartinezThat's the guy who created Little Chef.
We conceded goals at will last season, I'd say we need some better defenders.why do we need another CB? surely someone is leaving?
Yep, 1/10th of the fee, and us trousering 75% of the wages is our standard. If it doesn’t turn out as expected, Ajax’d be very happy to buy him back for a pleasant fee. No problems there mate!
