For me all he had to be today was solid and improve his work-rate and he achieved both.

His attitude and ethic was such last season that building back-up from the basics is the way to go for him.

He didn't look as awful as most of his games last season, but at the same time, he was again the weakest link in attack and I worry he will continue to be that for the rest of the season. He lacks footballing intelligence and that really is a concern for a Ten Hag system. As a counter attacking winger/striker he had some good moments under Ole but in a different system I really do think he's going to struggle. He deserves a chance but if I were Ten Hag I'd be desperately trying to get Anthony or another attacker to play alongside Sancho and Martial who I think could work really well together.

He actually looked interested again which is a great start.

Could/should have had 2 goals himself, just needs to get that confidence back in front of goal.

Lets hope he can bang a few against Melbourne.

I think we might have hope. He’s showing shades of his better times…

Looking a bit better - despite being put in the '2nd XI'. Presumably made captain to lead the kids, I thought he looked good.

If ETH sorts him and Martial out, the man deserves a damn statue ;)

If he can sort the two of them out then we instantly become a much more dangerous team to play against. Ability has always been there for the two of them.

Beautiful to have so many mouths shut
Let's not start getting hyped up over a pre season friendly. This guy practically gave up last season. He needs a number of good competitive games before he can turn me around.

LOL!

Rashford has been our biggest underperformer for 2 seasons. Any criticism he received was fully deserved.

Anyway pleased to see him get on the scoresheet today. Hopefully the start of a resurgence for him. One of our most likeable players personality wise.

I don’t give a shit.

The guy was bad during a season the whole team was crap.

We are seeing the team better and guess what? Rashford’s looking better.

I had my own opinion anyway that he didn’t follow Rangnick’s tactics because those 2 didn’t tactically get on so he didn’t try as much.

So many fans talk about him after every bit of social media news and crying it about being PR - I’m sure I can be happy about him showing some change to last seasons performances.

He was poor last season and was rightfully called out for it. He just stopped trying (and we saw evidence when even Ronaldo was running past him to put in a tackle).
He gave up trying and deserved criticism. If he had tried and failed thats one thing, but he didnt try and then on top of that pushed a lot of the stuff on social media which rubbed people the wrong way.

However it looks like hes putting in the effort now. Im glad he scored, it was a nice finish. And yes, at the same time, theres nothing wrong with being happy about a change in effort :)

Good to see him being a threat all the time. Hopefully him and Martial will be back to their best, Martial looked sharp too and arguably best player in both games.

Lets talk about how good he was instead on fretting about last season. Let bygones be bygones.

Yeah. Everyone was shit last year. It was a perfect storm for a shit show season. Draw a line in the sand, move past it, fresh start for all because the fault of the season wasn't on a bunch of individuals that were mismanaged. It was a poorly assembled group that led to unhappiness in the squad with how bloated it was, false promises, undercoached, etc. Whatever the case, everyone who is motivated to play with the team now has my full backing.

There is only 1 player right now in our squad who doesn't seem to qualify for that, and I want him gone as he's only in it for himself. Better off without that.

I hope you give other players in the squad the same consideration and patience such as Maguire who came under a lot more criticism than Rashford despite performing better than him throughout the season.

Marcus will return to some type of form, he doesn’t deal with competition but if you play for Man united and England you have no god given Right to expect to play on name only. He needs number assists and goals his best position is from the left but he’s not bad as CFW with teams that defend with a high line for obvious reasons, my concerns were highlighted today more than ever. We start the season with Martial, Sancho, Rashford, Bruno for attacking 4 spots, doubts over Ronaldo staying, DVB looking similar to last two seasons, A Elanga hugely overhyped and Amad not ready and Pellistri or A Garnaucho worth a shot. This means we have 5 definite options for 4 spaces in the team with Greenwood, Pogba Cavani, Lingard no longer available.

Christian Eriksen makes 6, we desperately need another Wide inverted striker and maybe more so than another right back. Antony, Bowen, Ascensio, Dries Mertins all available options ranging from a free to probably £70m for the first two. We also need to decide in next 7days with Ronaldo so we have time to get a replacement.

Someone please tell the board the PL has introduced a 5 substitutes rule with 9 named players.

I'm glad you don't give a shit, but many others do.

I want rashford to be better, but I'm not stupid enough to start saying he's beaten his haters with an average performance against Liverpool or a goal against Melbourne. He needs a hell of a lot more than that to show he is up for the challenge this year, especially when he's paid 200k a week.

Just sour.

All the other players who were equally as crap last season are performing in our pre-season.

Everyone from Martial to Sancho is getting some positive feedback whilst Rashford’s getting silence.

Energy or work rate for example is one thing that he lacked last season and he has instantly showed it in both games he has played. Just as Martial has.

It's a clean slate for everyone . However we try ,we are not getting anything back from last season. First 2 games the signs are good. Let's just park the negativity and roll with it. We are bound to have a rollercoaster this season.

The guy has literally played one 45 against the Liverpool reserves in which he was mostly shit and another against Melbourne where he managed a goal and you think he’s turned a corner.

The Caf, ladies and gentlemen.

The Caf cries about his work rate all season and in both games he has showed what?

A better work rate.

It’s got nothing to do with the Caf - the Caf absolutely hates him :houllier: I as a supporter and a fan of Rashford sees the positive in 2 games.

You judge a player on 45 mins of the first pre season mostly due to who he plays against and absolutely writing him off.

You are the Caf. Negative upon negative upon negative.
