True but whatever the context four years is a lot of leeway for a guy showing next to nothing. Not many get that window of opportunity to show something.

I've still got my doubts but he's been very good these last few games.
No doubt he has miles to go. One or two games is not it, he needs a full season of good performance to lay down his claim to this spot and even then we need greater competition.

But it's not the weirdest thing ever that a youngish defender is developing. Until he went to Milan he simply didn't have enough experience in men's football. 4 years on paper but it's only since the second half of last season we've put any faith in him, after an okay if not blistering spell on loan.

He still has a lot to work on in all areas for me. He needs to keep up the aggression, be more effective in the final third and cut out the silly errors where he gets beaten easily. He's quite good between the boxes, which seems weird to say for a defender but that ability is important, but you'd want him to be tidier closer to them.

Because it's been four years of terrible to average stuff. He's been given a long time to start producing some decent stuff. I don't think its outrageous to write him off after that long.

Was very good tonight and I haven't rated him at all previously.
How many 23 years old fullbacks are regular starters in the Premier league, without mentioning or comparing Arnold?

I mean,a lot of more experienced players and much more expensive have done terrible performances over the last years and they don’t receive the same judgements.

Having said that if there’s a season where he will have to prove himself is now.

He was very good against Diaz and Southampton as well. He was decent under Rangnick as well, looks a good young player who has the right attitude, technical and physical attribute to be a proper player.
He is still learning to put it together but funny a lot of "fans" like to label him as "shite".

His was the pass that started the goal move. He's great at those progressive passes. Defended well apart from the booking.

Close to MOTM

Good performance but I still don’t rate him that highly. His aggression and passion is important though. The mini “celebration” with Varane and Martinez after winning a goal kick instead of conceding a corner is something you’d never in a million years see from AWB.

Only 23 and plenty of time to continue his development and learn from his mistakes.
Apart from a few minor errors tonight, he was not only very good, his attitude, work rate and effort was top class.

Did you watch Varane?
Yup, he was class. Just posted in his thread too. But IMO Dalot had a great game too plus played a big role in our goal so he was my MOTM. Taking nothing away from Rapha.

Is he really going to contribute any assists or goals? I feel this might be a mistake!
He just did last week! Saying that he's not TAA or James to contribute heavily in attack. But he netted a cool 19 points from the last couple of matches which is very good for a player valued around 4.5m in FPL.

To be honest I haven't played FPL in a few years, but 4.5 seems good value. I take it back.

Great form since Liverpool. He's a player I've never really rated, so well done him!
Played with a lot of intensity, and his passion in high fiving his teammates when he won that tackle of Barnes was so great to see!

Has really improved his defending by noticeable margins, now he just needs to work on his offensive, if he improves enough maybe he'll spare us the headache of finding a new right back.

(Although hakimi remains on my wishlist)

Say what you want about his previous performances under another manager but AWB can never do this

AWB is like a statue. Solid defensively but stationary. Maybe what Dalot needed was a manager that trusts him and can play to his strength. At this point I would rather him ahead of AWB. He can still improve as well and as far as I'm concerned, AC Milan fans loved him, it's just that our fans saw several bad matches and can never let go of it despite the whole team being disjointed. Sancho goal was also credit to him with AWB that goal would not have happened.

If nothing else it's easier to see a long term role in the squad for him now, even if/when we replace him as first choice.

Proud to say I am one of the few that hasn’t doubted him. He has all the tools to suceeed he just needs a proper manager and he may just have one. This year could be a turning point in his career.

I've been skeptical of him, can't deny him lately though. Just hope he keeps it, always feel he has a mistake in him but his fight and chemistry with other 3 is there.

Lost Vardy on his headed chance, other than that you can't really ask for more.

"Martial...He's isolated Skrtel here..."
People overrate athleticism/pace and underrate technical ability with modern fullbacks I think. It's crucial for teams to have actual quality passers from the position, not just burners that can rampage down the touchline and hit some crosses in. And especially how ETH wants to play (which is similar to Pep), with inverted fullbacks these guys have to be comfortable on both feet and actually making smart passes. Dalot excels with these parts of the game which is why he's looked so much better. He's not great isolated against wingers, but that's a much smaller part of the game if you can dominate the overall passages of play.

I'm a big doubter and thought we should have brought a better RB in.

But let's be honest here, that's a fantastic performance.
Hopefully he shows more of that and proves me totally wrong.

The mentality in that back 4 has shifted massively.

You can see how pumped up Dalot, Martinez, Varane and Malacia are. They're high fiving each other during games on successful blocks or tackles.
You never saw that with Maguire and Lindelof in there.

Says a lot about team spirit. Long may it continue.

When you have championship level manager running the team even the best players will look average. Moyes was able to make a title winning team look like a Sunday league team.
Dalot is still young and has bags of potential so even after 4 years there was always a player in there that's capable of more than what he was showing.
Don't be so easy to write players off.

Credit where its due, he's been really solid this last games. Impressed with his performances. He's still young so hopefully he'll only get better. It's a nice surprise.

His contract is expired next Summer. He's on 25k/wk (). I guess he plays to and earns that new contract.

Feared for him last night after getting the yellow so early, but thought he was excellent. Composed, didn’t dive in, was great positionally.

will need to support offensively more when Antony comes in to the side, but trust EtH to get him firing

He does indeed. Seems to improve heavily under EtH
He's now looking like a PL quality, where most of us just didn't see it coming. Gary Neville wasn't that solid defensively at Dalot's age. But Neville had that strong mentality to improve and be consistent. If Dalot can maintain his improvement, he has a very good long-term future at United.

Man.., i really love our new manager.
