I always knew this place was quite strongly left leaning, but I didnt realise just how radical a lot these folk truly are. Makes me question some of the other views etc I have seen on here over the years.

Cant say I am particularly pro or anti the monarchy, but the Queen was an institution on a global level, and a constant in the lives of virtually everyone in the country. RIP.
This place is just out of reality. Got people who were arguing with me when i posted this is a momentous moment in our lifetimes.

I more mean on a political level. She doesn’t do anything regarding the running of the country in any real sense. She’s a ceremonial figurehead who will be replaced in a few days.
It's one of those "she's always been there" for many many people of all generations. King Charles doing the xmas day speech going to be very strange watch.

Guess it's a little different given he's brought you guys so much joy but similar whenever SAF passes given he's been there for generations of your fanbase. And a ceremonial figurehead.

King Charles and PM Truss though. Winter certainly going to be fun under nine duvets.

Hopefully this will bring about a change in the Monarchy, all the pomp and ceremony.

So because people on here don't share your middle-of-the-road views on one single issue, they're radicals.

Talk about irony.

Have a search for 'Queen''s Consent'. She (and the new King) vetoed dozens of legislative ideas from the Scottish and Westminster Parliaments.

I'd consider myself in favor of a republic rather than a monarchy. But I do have respect for the job the Queen did.
Now is the time to end the monarchy though.

I fully expect to see Britain fall apart because of this news. The Queen was holding everything together, working in the shadows managing our public systems and foreign trade agreements, our schools and emergency services, our road and park maintenance, and everything else.

Hopefully Charles can be half as good as she was at running Britain, because otherwise we're in trouble.

Yeah I agree. It’s a bit weird imo.
It's the "good riddance" kind of stuff that feels weird. I don't care for monarchies, I actually think it's a bizarre institution to still be having in 2022. But I don't feel the urge to write "good riddance".

Replaced instantly! So sad. She's now referred to as just 'the King's mother'

Exact same for me. I'd go even further than "bizarre" and call it a disgraceful thing to have in this day and age but celebrating someone's death is so low.

Huge moment for the nation. The world really. I know we all joke but this will be remembered as one of the most important moments in the 21st Century
:lol::lol::lol: Come on now…please, that’s so hyperbolic. The amount of events that were and are so much more important than her death is basically impossible to count.

Yea and that wasn't a particularly good thing in today's world as she and her family are literally born into it, which is why I can understand people don't want to care to much.

Don't even have to leave this decade to find some proper big hitters
most certainly! I get that many people find that it’s an important event, but talking about these scales feels really childish and sensationalist to me

I agree. No matter what you think of monarchy, she was quite an inoffensive person really and carried herself with a certain dignity.

Just binged the first 3 years of the Crown on Netflix, which I thought was well done. Looking forward to season 4, although one would imagine they will need to edit the ending now.

It takes a lot of effort and skill for her to have been so apolitical. There is a lot of projection going on where people regardless of political persuasion and views can see her as a surrogate mother or grandmother for the nation. Even die hard Republicans would not criticise her directly over the past 10 or 15 years.

I honestly hope we won't see anything like the tearing of clothes and rending of hair or vice a versa that Diana's death/murder/complete accident brought on but let's not kid ourselves, we are going to see some monumental rending.

All depends on your perspective and what you know really.

How absolutely fuming do you think Bojo will be right now
He will be incandescent. Throwing things across the room. "Why couldn't she have died a few weeks earlier!" One of the greatest photo ops in history, missed.

I'm sure he'll still get invited to St Paul's.

New PM and Monarch in the same week. If the rule of three's apply, then what do we need to expect before the end of the week.
