So what's next for Sir Gareth Southgate?

I get being loyal to players and all that but you are losing 1 nil and it's 75mins, surely you take out Sterling and try some one like Bowen?

and why stick Saka at LWB when he has the quality to be an attacking threat in RW?

it's not a tournament so why not experiment a little, Tomori could have been selected to start and assessed for example? we all know what Kane offers so why not try Toney for example?

The Ole comparison works so well.

Even if England did win the Euro's, this guy is a nothing coach. It is always despite him rather than because of.

He needs to go.

Think I’d prefer the players forming some kind of horizontally organised anarchist commune for the next World Cup than watching any more Southgateball

He's still scarred from that penalty miss all those years ago.
So terrified of losing its impossible to be a winner.

Southgate:
  • Misses a penalty knocks England out of a major tournament (As a player)
  • Gets Middlesborough relegated as a club coach
  • Gets a free run to a WC final, loses against Croatia in the semis
  • Gets a free run to the Euro finals against Italy and loses
  • Gets England relegated from the Nations League

You got to blame the FA and somehow they instilled culture of mediocrity over generations. After the Euros we had Southgate as a hero for gallantly losing in the final to an Italy team couldn't even qualify for the next world cup. In Brazil or Germany there would have been a bounty on his head after that final.
Really? Were there bounties on Low and Tite's heads after recent tournament disappointments?

Fan of England, but it's fans are really entitled to the point I'm wishing for a Southgate firing, followed by Potter leading England to a last 16 drubbing against Brazil, just to put them in their place.

He has a lot of credit in the bank from the World Cup and Euro performances but you have to ask, how long can he dine out of those "achievements"?

With 2 games before the first World Cup game, what did he learn tonight? Nothing. He took no risks, made no changes and tried nothing worthwhile. Why did Toney get selected if he's not going to at least get a chance to show what he can do? This idea of getting them used to being involved in the England camp means nothing when they play for Premier League clubs with world class set ups anyway.

Southgate should be sacked, but Southgate won't be sacked. The FA love him and they'll use the crap excuse that they shouldn't change coach just before the World Cup except we'll be waiting 4 years for the next one and for the likes of Kane (a genuine top drawer number 9) that will be too late.

I don't know how many times I have to read this crap about being in a WC semi and a Euros final. In both tournaments with the exception of Belgium (who beat us twice) we played the international versions of pub teams and still couldn't get the job done.

He should never have been given the job as he's a poor coach but then this is England and this is the FA. Another decent generation of players will be wasted on another crap coach.

Strange he keeps sticking with the so called 3-4-3 which is really a 5.

Bit like Tuchel at Chelsea at the moment.

Is that set up dead?
It's still a very good set up and you can create multiple triangles as players movement define how good the system can be. It's same for any system ofcourse. Whatever system you play if players didn't put the effort result will be the same.

Tuchel specifically used that system to make full use of kante s ability. Without fully fit kante that system lacks thrust and energy in midfield. Lack of physical dm and our slow defense also the reason tuchel stick with three back formation.

I didn't know why England keep that set up though. But any way you have to trust your manager so close to world cup it's do or die for him in this world cup.

Declan Rice just came out and said that England score loads of goals in training and that they’re going to be good at the World Cup because of that. Southgate’s delusion spills down to his squad.

Should sack him and get someone in who will take the reins off these players for World Cup

In all fairness he’s hardly going to say, “we’re a disjointed bunch of nobodies, we can’t hit a cows arse with a banjo and we’re beyond fecked at the World Cup”

I’m training they’re up against Maguire, Dier and Walker.

We're well on the way to wasting another golden generation of players because we have amateur coaches running things. We have so much talent in the squad but we're stuck playing negative football.

What he could say is “We’re playing poorly at the moment, but we’re working very hard in training and there have been good signs there”. Saying “Trust me, we’re going to be good” and using training goals to back it up is a tad bit ignorant and arrogant for England’s supposed heir to Kane’s captaincy.

For England, I honestly think you lot (if you’re English) have to sack Southgate immediately and get a new manager bounce. Get Tuchel on a short-term contract. Pep was very keen to manage Brazil at the 2014 World Cup despite being employed by Bayern - break the bank and get him in for a month. If anything, get Sean Dyche in and let him organise and fire up the squad. A 4-4-2 with Rashford or Sterling playing off Kane would work absolutely fine. Southgate will lead England to the exact same result as World Cup 2010 - failing to finish above the USA in the group and getting panned by a top team (Netherlands) in the RO16.

Is Low still Germany coach is he? Oh that's right he isn't anymore. And he also won.a fecking world cup...

I'm glad my post irritated you. That gives me satisfaction, hopefully more of them irritate you too.

Should have been sacked after the euros.
We all cream our collective pants at making a final when that was the bare minimum expectation for a home tournament and that isnt even taking into account he fact he has some of the best players in the world at his disposal.
He is a fecking heavy anchor to drag behind us.
Plus every time I see him I see griphook from
Harry Potter.

We all know how this will play out.

Rigth now it looks bad. Hopeless even.

WC squad will be announced, more moaning about surprise selections and those left at home.

Couple of pre tournament friendly wins. England will be the darkhorses.

Then it will be coming home.

Lose on penalties.

GS will get his walking papers and we'll go through the same rigmarole in 4 years with the next manager and the one after that and the one after than and so on and so forth.

He's done quite well for England. Can say what you want about the draws we had, and certainly it is relevant context, but you still have to get to the business end of tournaments and beat what is in front of you and he did that. The results on paper are fine.

The problem is the FA should have had some foresight to realise he had run his race. To come back from that final disasterclass and win the World Cup is totally delusional and unrealistic. He probably lost a bit of confidence from a few players, and ultimately I think his cycle should have come to an end as you start to need a new voice. The problem is the FA are highly reactive, they're always going to think that because he did okay that he can take it a step further and "deserves" the job.

Now what's happening is we have no momentum, no style, no clear formation that works, no real idea of best combinations, and no results.

An absolute certainty that England won't do well at the WC. He's a terrible manager, and that's not because England isn't winning trophies, it's because he can't get the best out of the current group of players, which is what a good manager should do. If he does that and fails to win, fair enough, but you can't tell me a team so full of attacking talent can be this negative.

Shades of Ole's team training well and being a great bunch of lads. Same culture of encouraged mediocrity and failure

There are those who win big for clubs and nations. Vicente del Bosque and Marcello Lippi... And there is Sir Gareth breaking new records and getting relegated with club and nation.

The modern group are a good core of players but its not Spain 2010, Brazil 02 or France 98 levels good. The idea England 'should' be winning the World Cup is a sick joke. Especially when you cycle through the French and Brazil squads. England are certainly one of the better teams, but I wouldnt place Englands chances above Spain, Netherlands, Argentina, Germany, Belgium, Portugal.

Italy are a great side, the European champions. It was a 1-0 away defeat in Italy. I mean, do England fans honestly think 'this' England team is some sort of sensational national team?
