Which has zero to do with posting the same stat over and over on an internet forum.
true.

Another stat which is probably not mentioned enough is how many times Maguire got relegated ie 5 (4 times at club level and now with England as well). He's probably the only player in history to get relegated twice in one season (ie Hully and Wigan while on loan). Considering that Ronaldo won 5 balon d'ors, 5 European golden shoe and 5 CL then we can call Maguire the reverse Ronaldo. A bit like Flash and the reverse Flash (excuse the pun for linking Maguire with something with super natural pace)

Don't think it's fair to blame it on Maguire for the England loss. Some of the other players did even worse.

Kane was totally toothless for the whole match just like in the Euro 2020 final. Even Tammy Abraham can do better.

The other players like Eric Dier were a joke too.

I think the reasons Maguire more abuse than many deem appropriate are the following:

  • His fee
  • Becoming captain
  • Being deluded (see interviews or the finger in ear celebration)
  • Him being undroppable for so long
  • Being poor for the majority of his United career and shocking in plenty of games
  • Doing absolutely ridiculous things on an number of occasions e.g. taking out his own players
  • Hard to qualify this in text but his on field big time Charlie persona where he has to be the one to get on the ball (resulting in taking out his own teammates) and hanging onto the ball like he's about to go on a mazy run, only to just look silly.

Granted, some of these aren't his fault, but the combination of the above so consistently is why he gets the hate he does. A lot of players may have some of the above trait but he embodies all of them.
I feel bad to add weight to the negativity, especially as we will need him at some point during the season. But... his United career is finished and it's damage control time now.
  • Takes too many touches on the ball and invites pressing from the opposition (it puts pressure on the whole team, makes De Gea $h!t himself and our fans become anxious).
  • Lack of pace is a big concern.
  • Distribution not good enough.
  • Doesn't fit our new system.
Maguire has started 4 games this season and lost all 4.
It's almost October and he hasn't won a game he's played.... Shocking!! Almost as bad a Messi not scoring a goal until the end of October last season

So not abusing him makes him my favorite player?

What’s cringe is you thinking HM is worth defending at this point.

Played how many games this season and how many of those did we win?

Makes average attackers look like prime Messi/Ronaldo then goes onto blame EVERYONE ELSE for his mistakes. Now its DDG lack of English as the cause of him being bad at his job. Lack of players with pace around him causing him to look like a deer in headlights. won’t come out for an interview after any loss because he knows he will get questioned on his abject performance.

I could go on and on but I hope you get the point.

Now if he had it in himself to do what Dalot and McT have done (improve vastly) then I could see the point that he's getting criticised unfairly but he hasn’t and I highly doubt he is capable ( I certainly hope he can prove me wrong) enough to do so.

That's the caf, if you put an argument even a valid one against a player who isnt favoured, means they are your fav player.
It actually means you're clearly his family member.

Given 99.99% of United fans, at a rough guess, want him to move on, I guess this thread now boils down to whether or not you get a kick out of spending your evenings saying 'he got relegated four times' or 'he's got the turning circle of a three-legged water buffalo' over and over again.

See. This is the type of nonsense that makes it look like people are defending Maguires form when they challenge posts like this. Your post is so full of wholes I don’t even know where to begin.

He doesn’t make average strikers look like Messi or Ronaldo at all and it’s this type of overzealous criticism that annoys many fans. He’s actually quite a good player who is going through a terrible time which is being intensified by the level of abuse and in many cases unjust criticism. No one has ever said that criticism is unjust but it has to be balances and have cause.

Yes, he’s started 4 games this season and we’ve lost everyone. Was he solely at fault? No. All four games were terrible team performances. By your own logic we should never lose a game when he doesn’t start.

There is zero proof that he said de Geas lack of English (of which he doesn’t suffer from) is the cause of his bad form but because its something you want to hear you take it as Gospel.

You say he won’t come out for interviews after a defeat after he has literally just come out for an interview after England’s defeat against Italy (Kane is captain) and he has got lambasted for saying nothing wrong. He’s a coward when he doesn’t speak and he’s an egomaniac when he does.

I’m sure you could go on and on because the majority of what you said has no foundation and is based solely on your hatred for the player. The man could score the winning goal in the FA cup final and I'm sure you’d have something negative to say about it. How long until people jump on the McTominay bandwagon after he has a few bad games (which he will) he was deemed as useless, only in the team because he's British etc etc. Bloody hell. I've said it before and ill say it again. what's happened to the days when we backed our players.

To say you don’t have an agenda against him after posting this is laughable. Non-more blind than those who will not see

Blah blah blah.

Harry Maguire is the worst captain we’ve had. I find it funny how all his fans come out and defend him when the majority of fans can see how utterly average he is.

Andrei Kanchelskis made me fall in love with Unite
We have to differentiate between hate and not rating a player.

I don't have a personal opinion on the man and certainly don't hate him. He's probably a decent chap. More than likely.

He's not a decent footballer and not doing a good job as captain. Are we not allowed to say that ?

Too many idiots jumping on the hate bandwagon in this thread
A very important point. People go way over the top with their judgements of players and are so quick to jump to extremes. Maguire has certainly not endeared himself to fans, coming across as deflecting the blame from anyone but himself and talking himself up when he should be talking about working hard to get his place back. Honestly I don't think he'll be here next season, and that's probably best for all parties. United can move on with a new captain, Maguire can revive his career somewhere else.

I don't understand the people getting touchy about Williams' and Matic's interviews. What they're saying boils down to "Maguire is receiving a ridiculous amount of online abuse", and people for some reason take this to mean that we should never criticise Maguire for any reason ever.

The only actual reason you'd have to get annoyed about these quotes is either that you don't think Maguire is actually receiving much abuse, in which case you're wrong, or that you're one of the basement-dwellers who is engaging in this abuse, in which case you're an imbecile.

Why does Maguire do a long surging run to only pass it backwards? Whilst running he could pass it and allow the full-back to surge further forward but the attack stops.

After all the hard work he's done to get his mates to come out and defend him in the press lately too.

He had a decent first half but has now thrown it away.

Honestly I feel like his peak level where he was a decent CB is long gone and he's just a mediocre player now. He needs to leave for his own career. He'll never be a starter at United again and he's a liability whenever he plays. Needs to rediscover himself as a bottom half of the league CB IMO.

That's the problem with him, he can just make two dumb mistakes out of nowhere at any time.

Big pudding. Pray he doesn’t find any dirt on ETH and end up back in our starting XI.

Can it get any worse for the lad, actually starting to feel sorry for him as its clear the negative energy around his name has destroyed his career.
