If Portugal somehow win the World Cup, he should just call it a day seconds after that final whistle goes. He can raise the one trophy that has so far eluded him and he can tell Messi to go feck himself and how he’s the GOAT like he probably wants too.

The biggest misnomer in world football is that Ronaldo is a good professional

Except that will never happen.

Fair enough.

But its not a George Best level tragedy ending is it?

Which is the point of the post you responded to.

Nobody is going to be talking about this stuff in 20 years except a bunch of disgruntled online fans who've had it in for him since he returned. Nobody at Old Trafford first game of last season gave a shit that he left for Madrid. And if he comes back in years to come the crowd won't care that he once left 5 mins before the end.

Agree on his narcissism though. Always been that way.
Anyone doing an objective summation of Ronaldo's career at United in the future will have to acknowledge the way he's behaved. People are utterly devoted to United, they aren't going to forget such flagrant and repeated disrespect shown towards the club (and by proxy, to themselves).

Slight understatement. Which is my point here. There is no comparison between the two.

Best was a complete tragedy. He was a raging alcoholic who went to prison.

Ronaldo has shook his head a bit and left 5 mins before full time. I'm not defending Ronaldo but let's have some perspective.

This from Ronaldo is a bit of minor messing about towards the end of a glorious career.
I wasnt actually comparing the two. I was simply pointing out sometimes legends in the game end up having their final years marred by ill feeling and petulance. I mentioned Best as someone who sadly had the worst end to a career imaginable (outside of injury etc) I didnt compare their careers. Its not hard to understand.

Give it a break. As a manager Ole is shit, he was shit for us and it had feck all to do with Ronaldo.
Finished 3rd and 2nd in his two full seasons. He wasn't shit, that's a dumb thing to say.

Since singing him we have been really poor. Ole got sacked. Rangnick is Rangnick. And now whenever he is not in the team we play so well.

Feck him off in Jan. With the saving from his salary we can sign a top class striker on loan. The problem is no club want him.

Most professional player ever my ass. It's all about him. Selfish and egoistic. He is bigger disruption than Pogba, Lingard and Henderson combined.

Most will.

Posters such as @Pogue Mahone are still really disgruntled that he left for Madrid. Clouds everything they think about him.

But fans in the stadium, when he returned last season, did they sound bothered? And I'm guessing we can class them all as United fans not Ronaldo fans.Which is often the insinuation on here.

I didn't like that tonight from Ronaldo but there's absolutely no way it colours my overall feelings towards him.

Yes it Was disrespectful and ill judged but clearly bourne out of huge frustration At not playing.
howere this guy is a total legend, all these folk bad mouthing him obviously were not around when he had his first years at united. And lets not forget his goals last season..
ETH was right not to pick him, he played 3 days ago and hes 38 years of age. we can never play such a high intensity press with Ronaldo in the team.. he doesnt fit into ETH style at 38 Years of age as he doesnt have the legs.

but hes frustrated and feels disappointed.. hes let it cloud his judgement. ETH will have words im sure.

I watched Ronaldo's debut for us in 2003. Watched him turn into a world class player for us before he left for Madrid. I still think he's a cnut. The way he has behaved since coming back is an embarrassment. He knows what he's doing. Behaving in this way just gets people talking about him even more. Nobody talks about him if he sits on the bench like he should and enjoys the win.

He acts like he's bigger than this club. He's not.

Schoolgirl tantrums. On a night when United were absolutely superb and a joy to watch. He has to make it about him.

Just play Garnacho, or even McTominay up front. Can't be worse than him.
No to McTominay, but Garnacho would be fine. We saw today how a striker who can't really do a ton very well other than actually beat a CB on the dribble to get off a shot is far more useful than what Cristiano offers now, and from what I've seen that's the one thing Garnacho should definitely be ready to do at this level already. Not to slag off Rashford, but I mean just him being able to beat a defender and get off a shot without it being blocked is massive for a #9, and Garnacho has that quality.

Very unprofessional. Wonder what kind of feedback he gets from his support staff - are they all yes-men or do they share unbiased reviews on his behavior/performance?

Don't know about Real but Juve players and fans were happy when he left. Our players will be simply ecstatic when he finally leaves. And most fans too (those who really love club).

It makes me sad the fans were very loudly singing the Ronaldo song a good bit tonight too !

Actually, maybe that emboldened him...

Yes, that's it! Someone, quick, tell Mark Goldbrige. It was the fans fault!
I thought they were singing it for Dalot though

This is why I'd rather Madrid not sign Mbappe for the team.
That's why you guys need to take the Viking Cyborg off of Citeh when you get the chance  :nervous:

That attack would be pure filth if Rodrygo keeps developing the way he is. Vinicius is already one of the best wingers in the world

Obviously you guys have never played football before. It's totally normal for the coach to ask one of the subs to go make the dressing room ready for full-time. Just watch the clip again, and you'll see he's clearly a man on a mission, taking the task as seriously as he would anything else. Goes to show the fantastic team spirit in this squad, when even someone like Ronaldo just gets up, and does his turn with no fuss.

Why is he son thinking ? Great role model at the moment . If you don’t get your way just shake your head for half an hour when taken off and if you aren’t brought on just walk off in front of 75,000 people and have an early shower

It's not a once off with him though. He's always handled frustration in petulant and childish ways. When he's delivering the goods it might make sense to put up with it. But when he's offering us nothing, arguably weakening the team when he plays, costing a fortune, drawing negative attention and putting the manager in a difficult situation, he's just not worth it.

He is a legend, but he's not playing at that level now. He either needs to accept that, or prove us wrong and show us he can still do it. It's all up to him.

You can be frustrated and disappointed but you don’t walk off in the 89th minute when your teammates are putting on one of the best performances in 18 months. You support them (while shaking your head for 15 mins ) so cameras can pick it up.
there’s no show like the Ronaldo show

Unless there's some good explanation for that, it's such a childish behaviour. Your teammates are winning in important game, no reason for it. Could be a real problem and we might see Cristiano leaving as early as January. I'm worried because until then, with Martial always injured, we'll be without other options for that ST position.
Hopefully we won’t have to put up with him much longer. We’ve just got 4 more league games before we next play on the 26th Dec. So 5-6 league games at max we have to carry this sulk.

Couldn't care less and I don't think the team will either. The managers response to being questioned on it was perfect.

It's a frustrating side show for such a past it player, but ultimately there is not much evidence Ronaldo has the kind of credibility anymore where it affects us drastically. This type of game brings a team together regardless of Ronaldo.

He's the type of guy when he's going down, he wants to take everyone else with him. That's exactly why he'll never be a United legend for me.

Real Madrid did very well selling him when they did, can you imagine the likes of Rodrygo and Vinicius flourishing while he's still there?
He's likely a very selfish lover and probably never gone down in his entire life.

If the rumours about him heading to City were true then we should have avoided him like the plague. Him even thinking about going there should have been enough to show you where his loyalties are. Wonder how his United fan club would have viewed him then.
If they weren't true then I've just had 30 seconds less in bed by typing this. :)

It's honestly crazy how many bad decisions he's taken the past few months. He really just can't deal with his own decline. All the shit in the summer, thinking a lot of top clubs would be after him, rejecting by all of europe and then he comes back in thinking he'll be "the star" again, only to then be benched for every meaningful game (and rightly so). And then now, after United puts in an amazing collective performance, he walks out on the team? What on earth are you showing? Petty Ronaldo pissed off that the team put in a 10/10 performance without him? There's absolutely nothing out there that can work in his favor here. He's killing his own legacy.

If the Portuguese national team was smart, they'd leave him out of the World Cup too.

I've said it before and I'll probably get moaned at for it again but Ronaldo isn't a United legend. Yes, he's absolutely a legendary player who played for United but that's not the same thing. The last United legend to wear the number 7 shirt was Beckham, because not only was he fit enough to wear the shirt (like Ronaldo was) but he actually gave a shit about the club. That matters!

It's easier to say that now because Ronaldo is providing absolutely feck all on the pitch for us. But what did he bring when he was first here? Some decent years followed by two outstanding seasons, but mired by constant disruption about where he was going next? Thanks but it's a tainted record. Like Elvis shitting himself to death on the toilet. The singing Elvis had the same problem as well, come to think of it...

It’s not about him. He threw a strop so what? Feck him. Tonight for me was about my team putting in a top performance against one of the top teams. I couldn’t care less what CR did. Hope he Fecks off in January the prima donna.
Great and all as he is he never came close to replacing Best, Law, Charlton, Robson , Cantona, Keane or Scholes in my book. Or Rooney for that matter.
