Bad sources but even if their information is correct nowhere does it say in any of those articles that any club aside Benfica actually made a bid. Interest and bid are substantially different.
Fair enough. But the question initially was "were big teams aware of Fernandez prior to his season at Benfica and the WC" and categorically the answer is yes.

It is sounding like no Enzo tomorrow. Work permits not completed.

For every Enzo Fernandez there are other players who emerge every year. He's had a great WC and good season overall but he's hardly world class talent and a unique player to spend the money Chelsea did. They are just mad and don't care about the money and Benfica knows how to sell the players. Unfortunately it creates a precedence with money spend on in-form players which will drive the player's prices even higher in the future.

Maybe finally fecking time to rehaul our scouting team department and kick out those who just don't do enough to bring in the best talents before Benfica, Ajax and other teams in Europe of that size do. When was the last time we assessed this? I mean it has very little media coverage and I could be wrong but really when was the last time we got a real gem which broke through for us?

Apparently Benfica proposed a deal where Chelsea pay £88m but Enzo stays there until the summer and Chelsea were supposedly okay with this but it sounds like from what Rui Costa is saying, Enzo had zero intentions of staying there beyond deadline day.

I bet they offered him a mammoth contract. Why else would he insist on joining Chelsea when he could've joined a proper big club in the summer.

Modric is one of the greats so incomparable really.

But let’s see how he and Tchouameni fair in the coming years. Based on the WC Enzo looked a more exciting player to me albeit it was a small sample size. What I loved about him was that he was always had time on the ball which is something you don’t see often and his quick feet would make him near impossible to press. The question is whether it was a short burst of form / Argentina momentum / a perfect system and if he can replicate it for Chelsea consistently
The WC performance inflated his price I'm sure but I'm not too convinced he is a 100+ million player just based on the WC. Then again its only Potter and he's yet to convince me so Enzo might yet underperform at Chelsea.

He's got a great smile. Should be doing Colgate commercials with them pearly whites.

New financial year? Have a better idea of if they’ve got champions league football or not etc?
Financial year starts in January for France, Germany and Spain so waiting until the summer would be the reverse for them if that was an issue.

As for qualification for Champs league, the player himself obviously doesn't care about that and if the club has to plan that short term, they shouldn't be spending over £100 mil on a player anyway.

Enzo would have got a UK work permit no problem in 2022 when playing for River Plate.
Clubs in Portugal do not face issues regarding work permit and do not need a work permit even if they are from outside the EU region, which works for South American players.

Also my ten pence on Enso's transfer. His fee was a fixed price not market value everyone knows that and only Chelsea bought him. Whilst Boehly was spending his xmas card money elsewhere no one else entered the race after the first advance was rejected. So fair play to Chelsea, its their money they can do what they like with it, He is their asset. In this world of poison and bitching and keyboard warriors I for one, do not wish to see any young player fail no matter who they play for.

Garnacho? Pellestri also seems on the verge of a breakthrough maybe.

Your scouts seems fine.

I guess United should look for the next Bellingham, the same stuff could be said about him, according to your argument.

To be fair, Bellingham has been on the radar much longer than Enzo has.

Anyways, Enzo could start today. I guess I will have to tell my wife I can't move from 5 to 7 PM, my legs won't work.
He should be in the squad, and having sold Jorginho and Kovacic being injured again, he is needed to step in immediately.

Future captain material of Argentina team, isn't it ? Really hope he makes it . Alvarez, Enzo, Martinez is a great core.

In the end, they're both young, evendtly talented but not proven in the biggest leagues. Otherwise, there's no way you can say Enzo is "hardly worldclass" considering his achievements, eye-test performances and stats.

I think Romero, Emi Martinez, Licha Martinez and my personal preference, Tagliafico, have a better chance than him. Even Lautaro Martinez I think.

He's still too young.

Can't say he hasn't instantly improved them. They went from 0-0 against the 9th placed team to 0-0 against 6th.

He looked pretty good first half, became a bit lose later on. Not his best game passing wise but he won a lot of midfield battles I thought. Needs to be played with more freedom, doesn't look his best position as DM/DLP

Led the stats at the first half having just one training session with the team.

once he and the players get to know each other, and once he has someone in the middle to help him go a little bit ahead on the pitch, we will see many Enzo masterclasses

He’s done well for his first game.

Benfica laughing all the way to the bank

Looks a solid player but... that is a big over payment. Did he really do much more than Jorginho would have tonight?
