Needs to start meditating and focus on him self. Needs to put away those chances, that will help the team a lot more at this point than him bothering about what everyone else does.

fecking brutal yet again today.

You simply HAVE to have press resistant midfielders/CB's behind him if you want him to have any chance of playing well against teams that want to press as intensely as leeds, because otherwise it turns into a shitshow back and forth game where Bruno and the rest can't even get the ball into the final 3rd consistently.

You guys just need to just tart having honest conversations about this guy. All this "yeah, he's shite, but still love him" - just comes off incredibly disingenuous considering the stick other players get

I don't think this team will truly fulfil it's potential with such an erratic player at it's core
 Literally. Hoping Amad can deputise next season, interested to see how he does. Seen plenty of calls for Sancho at #10, but he’s lacking in passing range for me.

I never said he’s shite. He’s frustrating to watch and annoying more often than not, but we’re still a better team with him.

Wasted a very good chance shooting at Meslier after intercepting a Leeds' players pass. Poor shot wide from Sancho's pass. Shot deflected then saved from Rashford's pass. Provided pass for Garnacho's chance that he refused to take with his right then saw his left foot shot blocked. Frustrating performance overall, passes not quite perfect.

I don’t know how people don’t like him or criticize him. He is always trying things, is our most creative player, never shys away from the game and gets about and gets stuck in.

Creative players will lose the ball. That’s just the nature of higher percentage passes.

He was very good today.

Unrealistic expectations because he absolutely carried us for two years

I don't think he was very good today, but I think people need to cut him some slack.

WW is terrible as CF. It's very difficult to play with WW when Leeds high press, compact midfield also happens to effective against such CF (lack of run in behind).

No coincidence that both game when Rashford moved up top, the game change drastically positive. Our chance creation increased too.

Pass completion in PL this season:

Fernandes 78%, Casemiro 78.7%, Rashford 77.1%, Dalot 78.9%, Eriksen 82.7%, Antony 80.4%, Shaw 83.3%, - these are Ten Hag's regular starters. Apart from the CBs, every outfield player is either slightly above or below 80% (Malacia at 84.6% is top) .

What really changes if you take out erratic Fernandes and replace him with a safer player that retains possession but creates fewer chances ?

Unhappy with Bruno shooting from long distance ? Antony does the same, Rashford too.

Literally VDB is the safest CAM in the world to retain possesion but bruno is picked because? He creates chances.

He's never getting that goal scoring form back is he :(
Seems strange. It was always padded by penalties here but he had a really good record in Sporting too. Must be the weaker keeper tax

The penalties helped of course but he still scored loads from open play, he just doesn't get in the positions as often now and when he does like today you never fancy him :(

Why? His shit is still much better than anyone else's in his position and he is still good enough to be one of our better/most important players, unlike, say, Maguire or other players that "get the stick". But we're unlikely to become a CL/league favourites with him as our number 10 (contenders? Sure).

And what is disingenuous about loving an imperfect player? It's easy to love Fred due to his attitude but still admit that he's often shit. Same with Bruno — he's a better player but the idea is the same.

He is creating more chances under ten Hag than he ever did before for us to be fair. But yeah, I miss goalscoring Bruno — it was a great feeling whenever you saw him next to the box and you knew that there's a screamer coming. He doesn't even do full power shots aimed at top corners anymore (well, way less than before) — it's always the same low shot towards the far post that curls outwards and misses its target by a mile.

He is an enigma for me, he has the ability to create chances and deliver in key moments, however, his lack of ability to resist press and show any composure is very concerning, specially being a number 10. Which is the one position where the requirement to resist press and always the most flawless player in terms of ability plays that position, because you are always in the half space and rarely have time on the ball, the best players always make time for themselves (KDB, Ozil, Cantona, Berkamp, Zidane to name a few)

Whereas you look at him, he does everything so hastily, the ball is like a hot potato to him. I think the last piece of our jigsaw is replacing this guy with a number 10 with the above mentioned qualities.

Another problem is we can not use him anywhere else on the pitch, the times he has been shunted to the right, has resulted in soo many turnover and goals (Fulham away and Leeds at home on top of my head).

His constant moaning does my head in. I'm sure rival fans hate him to bits. Don't think he had a particularly good game today, or 3 days ago. Actually from the top of my head I can't really remember a performance that was really really good but he gets by, has the ability to come up with something out of nothing. Which is definitely valuable. Still not not convinced by him - weird player, don't think, there is another Very high risk, high reward player like him. At least I don't know anybody ^^

Imo no if we keep playing with the current style.

Back then when he had that crazy scoring form most teams played with a high line against us. So lot of space to run into. And we were mostly a counter attack team.

Now we has transformed into a team who seek to dominate and control the match. Which as a result push the opponents back to their box. So less space to run into. His role has changed too. From almost a SS to more of a playmaker.

A lot of effort but also a lot of missed chances today. Got into good positions but often lacked the good pass or finish.

The guy needs a rest. He has already played 3300 minutes of competition football (which is 37 full games) so far this season. We need to give Sancho a try at #10 and give Bruno a breather.

I’d like to see those passing stats tattooed inside the eyelids of a few regular posters in this thread.

To give the ball away at more or less the same rate as almost every other player in the team (other than central defenders) while also being by far our most consistent creator of goal-scoring chances and working his bollox off to press and win the ball back when we don’t have possession (need to see stats for this but willing to bet they’re excellent) proves what an invaluable player he is. Even without all the evidence about how highly he is obviously rated by anyone who’s ever managed him. Yet still, week after week, this thread is infested with blow hards who think we’d be a better team without him. Madness.

Loved the encouraging little hop jump he did just before Rashford scored, he'll be a proper captain next season.

Agreed. People who criticize him do for skills he is undoubtedly not good at and it's not some great conspiracy. Some people may think this stuff isn't essential for a number 10 but for me, it's clear this team won't take the next step without an attacking midfielder with some guile on the ball.

Why would I expect Rashford's passing accuracy to be as high as- I don't expect Bruno's goal scoring record to be as high as Rashford nor do I expect his tackles to be as high as Casemiro's

as the supposed AM/hub/core/driving force of this team going forward I do expect to have better decision making and to be more press resistant

Some of you deserve bloody VdB playing every game.
Yes, Bruno can get frustrating, like literally almost every (very good or great) player, but he is still one of our most important players. New manager, different style and still Bruno always plays.
He looks tired as he never gets a rest. We have run him into the ground again.
Apart from that I am very happy with his form this season.

He will never be a ball player, I have given up on him improving in that category. Just hope he does something special more regularly.

Shock... the guy who spends his entire life lurking the Bruno Fernandes thread is being pedantic. Grow up
25% of what you posted as…absolutely carried us…Is pedantic ? Go back another six months from that and you’ve got 2 prem goals from open play and 3 assists from Jan 21 to May 21…so that’s 50% now. Still pedantic?

For the record the only players I’d say absolutely carried United in my lifetime are Robson in 80s and Cantona and Schmeichel in 96 when SAF brought through the class of 92 as youngsters. Many far better players have been crucial at United to success like Keane, Becks, Scholes, Giggs, Ronaldo, Rooney, Rio, Vidic,Evra etc but haven’t carried the entire team. Rashford, Martial, Shaw, Greenwood, Pogba were all excellent in this period where Bruno ‘absolutely carried us’ it’s turning almost into mythical status now. At some point he’ll never have had a bad game in his time here.

Should probably have scored. The kind of poor game he has where you could see him getting the occasional bench appearance and coming on after 55-60 minutes to win it like Old Giggs, with Eriksen preferred ahead of Sabitzer/new #8 and Casemiro for midfield control. Rest might help him too.

I will not be surprised to see this happen next season, provided we sign a starting midfielder.

I think the goal scoring will come back for periods, he’s in attacking positions, Sancho likes to slow things down and pass it on the ground which should suit him and he’s still striking the ball well on his longer passes and his through balls.

He's playing every bit of every game every three days and also gives everything. He also keeps getting shafted to the right during second half of every game. He's not perfect, but he does a good 7/10 job every game and has 9/10 now and then.

His goal-scoring doesn't look to me to be any worse than most seasons in his career, the main difference is penalties.
