I love Wout.

We've been devoid of players who actually give a feck for years. This man is on LOAN, and giving his absolute all every single game. His enthusiasm is infectious, and he enables others around him to shine.

“I just took a moment [after the game]. I can do really tough or I can do really cool but for me this is a childhood dream. A childhood dream to play for this amazing club, to play a final and also be important in this final with [the assist for] the second goal.

“You have to take a minute otherwise everything is passing you by before you even notice and before you’ve enjoyed it. So, yeah, I took a moment there and that was the greatest moment of the evening.”

Wout Weghorst believes the current crop of Manchester United players is a ‘special group’.

The Dutch loanee, like much of the squad, is already looking forward to the chance of winning more trophies this season, and believes our squad has the ability to earn more silverware. Next up is the Emirates FA Cup tie with West Ham United at Old Trafford, on Wednesday, to follow Sunday's Carabao Cup triumph at Wembley.

“Today was [just] the first one, hopefully; we’ve got three more to go.” he told MUTV.

“We have to enjoy this one and celebrate it but on the other side, we keep on going, we’re hungry for more.

“This [winning] mentality, you can feel it in the squad, you can see it on the pitch, the guys who are there always deliver.”

Whether it is on the pitch or off it, Weghorst feels the togetherness of the squad, adding: “It’s quite special for me also, I’ve never noticed it before.

“We have a special group.”

It is the first trophy the Reds have won since 2017, ending a six-year long trophy drought.

Our no.27 was captured just after the final whistle taking the occasion in, during what was the first trophy win of his career.

“[It is] a great feeling,” he continued to club media. “It’s good to win something. For me, it’s the first time I’ve won a trophy and, for the club, it was quite long ago, so it’s a great feeling to bring back some silverware.”

Weghorst, who performed well again for the Reds, added: “[Playing at Wembley] was a special feeling, a special final.

“There’s only one thing that matters and that’s performing, that’s winning, and that’s what we did. Then, at the end, you can enjoy it and see the atmosphere.

“It was a special occasion. It was a great one.”

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
Would anyone take him permanently for £10M as a squad option?
Depends entirely on how he plays for the rest of the season. He's had some games where he's done quite well (other than scoring of course) and has played a good part in helping our team and attack function well as a unit. But he's also had some games which have completely passed him by and he hasn't really provided much at all.

If over the rest of the season we mostly see more of the former, then I'd happily bring him in fulltime. But if it's 50/50 or more of the latter, then I'd hope we look for someone who can do a job more consistently.

Honestly, can't help but feel pleased for the guy. 2 months ago probably not even in his wildest dreams was he imagining he'd be standing in Wembley lifting up the first trophy of his career, and for all his limitations he's working his balls off to show that he deserved his place there

Thats how i feel. Barcelona were just too good for him but yesterday he was able to do exactly what was asked in the biggest game of his career and he contributed to the win.

For his pressing, work ethic and physicality really. He can offer something else to the team.
Why not just go for a player who can press and has good work rate but can actually score a few goals too?

As for his physicality its not good enough, how many times is he beaten in the air despite his size advantage?

Hes been a decent stop gap but next season he needs to be improved upon as a no 2 striker. Maybe he can stay as a no 3 striker (I would prefer someone younger there though)

Realistically who would you get for 10m that would be a better 2nd striker? Wout has also proven that he fits in the team and wouldn't need time to settle in.

Why is the budget 10m? Also he has not proven anything, if Rashford picks up an injury he hasn't even proven he could produce 20% of his goals. We're getting away with it at the moment but the no2 striker needs to be able to add goals else we'll be in trouble long term

I would sign Marcus Thuram on a free to replace him to be honest, again happy to keep him as the 3rd striker, but he is not good enough to be the number 2, great lad and I like him but its quite obvious he isn't of the required quality if we want to challenge for league and UCL next season

He's really living the dream

Was cool seeing him crouching in front of the fans just smiling and relishing taking it all in

I had really mixed emotions seeng it. Was happy for him because as you said, he definitely is living a dream but at the same time I think it's inevitable he will go back to Burnley after his loan ends because even though he gives 100% every game, he is just well below par in terms of skillset required for a club like United.

Even if thats the case he's still lived the dream - he got to play for United, winning a trophy and setting up a goal in the final. Something that would have been unimaginable for him a few weeks ago.

We all love United
That ferocious left footed shot, wished it had gone in for him

Wouldn’t mind we sign him as a squad player if he costs about 10M or so to get him from Burnley. An absolute workhorse and definition of a team player

Exactly
Don't think he'll stay and if he does it's very limited playing time as we need a new striker anyway but still cool for him and cool to see someone relish in that way

For £3m, he’d be an excellent squad signing.

For me he has shown the exact profile of attacker wr should be looking for. He unfortunately isn’t good enough to be a long term option but we should be aiming for someone who is hungry, durable( played every game), presses hard and also doesn’t mind looking for a pass. If there’s one complaint I have from our current attack then that is that most of them are slightly selfish and we could do with more passing in the final third

I enjoyed that moment yesterday where Botman squared up to him trying to intimidate him but quickly realized that Wout wouldn't be intimidated and shit himself

ETH wants a big physical hard working CF. He got the best out of Haller at Ajax and is making it work with Weghorst.

Oshimen would be a huge huge upgrade though,

I like Wout for all the reasons people have mentioned. He's not a good enough footballer or goalscorer though. Good loan deal stop gap until we get a proper fix in the summer.

To be honest, I’d be too embarrassed to play one of those cheesy fan covers and would have played the John Denver version

Why not both, I am sure we have room for 3 or even 4 strikers as we are fighting in multiple competetions, also Weggy is sure happy even on the bench too!

I think he’s a bit better than some people are making out. There have been a handful of moments where he could have scored but for an inch (of luck or quality, we don’t know). For fun, imagine two or three of those went in - then we’ve got a guy who can do the job ETH wants plus gets a few goals along the way.

Sure, at this point, that’s just fantasy, the reality is he doesn’t score. I wouldn’t think he’ll be our first choice next year unless he starts delivering but I have a hunch the goals will come.
