I don't blame him - he had the same issue last year where he was overplayed and burnt out. Ten Haag doesn't rotate him and Santos played him for 90 mins against both crap teams over the break.

He runs a lot so it's expected. He's key to us and we really need to rotate him more.

He's an absolute liability.

How many times does he give it away during a match. I'm starting to think we should sell Bruno and replace him.

3 guys in midfield that hate building from deep. Bruno tried but wasn't secure enough. McTominay playing very high and doesn't show. Sabitzer I haven't quite worked out what his role is or what his skillset is. But it's not helping the defence play out.

It's clear Bruno is not a safe passer, so you need at least one, probably two people that can pick the ball up and retain it. There's nothing new here. You could argue Bruno should be able to adjust his game at this level and maybe there's some merit in that but ultimately the reason he gets goals and assists is he takes everything on. He should be smarter and more tactical but ultimately we had no platform in the game for an attacking midfielder to excel.

So what's your excuse for his awful performances in the beginning of the season? These performances from him isn't something new that only comes at the end of the season. It's consistently during the whole season.

A player struggling to adapt when playing in a different setup and position every week is a default. Exceptions to this are legitimately very rare. And those shifts are not done to suit the squad to his strengths, but because our squad-building over last decade has been absolutely shambolic and he's the one compensating for it most of the time.

Which performances? The two at the start? He's played maybe 5 or 6 stinkers total this year.

Not trying to give him a way out but also having Weghorst ahead of him is a waste. He doesn't have any skills to supplement Bruno's long balls. Although Bruno too is no saint as his own lack of skills is why he relies on going long so much.

He'll go out right next season. Our best attacking display this season was with him playing out on the right. We haven't really been creating anything from the right as is so it's a perfect match.

The problem now is that he's one of the few alternatives we have in the middle so we can't really experiment with that.

5 or 6 stinkers and a lot of really average ones. His performances are so incredibly inconsistent it really is hurting this team.

I think he can be a useful player but only if we have Casemiro and a partner who can win the ball when he inevitably gives it away and quickly get him back into dangerous positions.

The word I'd use to describe Bruno is wasteful which is not what you need in a big away game against a decent team when you know your best midfield isn't available.

Really needs to know when to play it simple
:D
We tried the Pogba needs a "another player" to unleash him, it failed massively.

Does Odergaard game becomes exposed because Partey is not there? No, because Odergaard skillset is mandatory and fits well for a midfielder, yes Arsenal can struggle to win games without Partey but Odergaard won't turn to giving possession anyhow because Partey is not there.

Did KDB game go down because Fernandiho left City?

Did Modric and Kross turn into Bruno because Casemiro left Madrid?

In the highest level of football, you can't carry passengers in a team.

No player should be doing another players job, covering for another player is okay but doing the basic in every game for another player is not possible.

Bruno as a United 10 should be able to recycle the football till eternity, you saw how City killed Liverpool yesterday from minute 70, just recycling the football waiting for any openings that's how Bruno should be.

I repeat again, he is the biggest problem in our setup, not a specific game, but in our whole setup.

We will win more games than more teams with Bruno in the team, but few other teams WILL ALWAYS win more games than us.

We won't win anything big with 4231.

We will remain a 70-75 point team, no matter the striker we sign.

We need 3 competent midfielders to compete in the highest level.

I don't even think he was that bad today - seen a lot worse performances from him. And today he wasn't even played in his best position, so faulting him for a pretty meh performance seems a little harsh.

Gotta say, though, their Bruno looked way better on and off the ball. Funny how sometimes people here actively try to argue Bruno is one of if not the best midfielder in the league when he's not even the best midfielder called Bruno in the epl...

He's totally invisible or just a liability in tough away games.

Even in those games, it's a specific style in which he's good. It has to be end to end transitional stuff where he can just play off the cuff. He's fecking awful at "turning the screw" so to say which is a vital part of any world class side. Hell just watch Arsenal against Leeds yesterday, they are creating danger relentlessly without having to just endlessly hoof in crosses or try incredibly difficult through balls.
You have to have teammates that can play like that. Bruno Fernandes can be world class, but he's not the type of player that can do everything alone. But he will try hard.

Sabitzer is essentially the offensive version of Fred. At his best as an attacking style 8 but he's been forced to play every start either replacing Casemiro or playing beside someone else who can't hold for shit in the midfield, so he's never gotten to express himself in a game with regularity. It's clear he has quality, but has been thrown to the wolves and isn't good enough defensively to help us where we need it most if I'm honest.

Yes, he looks like more of a box to box player with more skills offensively than defensively. This makes sense because wasn't he an attacking midfielder/winger at some point for Leipzig? It's a big ask to be a holding player in the PL.

I'd still have to ask what skills he has that make him a candidate number 8 for Man Utd, though. You would think in that position you're looking for physicality in the Prem to get up and down for a high frequency of transitions. To be a real threat in the final third. I don't really see any dynamic qualities in his play so far. It's kind of one paced.

He always looks much better with Cas & Erik around him. Stick him back with McFred/Sabitzer and he becomes headless and frustrating again. Today, one of his classic headless performances always trying but lacking composure with lesser players around him.

Fernandes cannot recycle the ball to save his life. He played as 8 for many years and still struggles in that aspect of his game. I fear if he doesn't improve that facet of his game then he will be pushed out of the following season.

He’s 28 years old. He’s not really ever going to improve on that area of the game. It’s bizarre how ten Hag plays him in any position other than a no.10.

My god. He was atrocious at some points yesterday. I'm a bit surprised Ten Hag seems to rate him so much, or is it just that he has poor options there?

He is one of our best players but ETH burned him out. He is not superman, he can't play every minute without any rest.

This argument I can’t buy every time he is out played. Watch him make an assist next game, we will be complimentary of his fitness level.
Which one is it? His general form is not changed one bit. Some games his Hail Mary’s doesn’t come off, we don’t have to blame someone else for it. This is what his game is without the goals or assists.

Yup, said this before:

Guy has unlocked a new life hack:

Gets praised for playing a lot > plays shite > doesn't get criticised on the quality of his performances/it's excused because he plays a lot

must be nice

Spot on, whether he's fully fresh or not, it's how he plays. Very little care for retention

If Bruno can play 60 full games per year and be in top mental and physical condition for each of them ... then congratulations, we have found superman.

It simply cannot be done. By anyone.

If he is fresh, his game barely changes in terms of style, he's more creative for sure. However the lack of care for the ball, it's in his DNA. He's always been that player and will always be

Do you make more mistakes when you are fresh or when you are tired? I know I make more mistakes when I am tired, even when it is very simple tasks.

You make a valid point but I'm saying it goes beyond that, a top club aspiring at big clubs cannot have a careless player at the center of all its creation. There has only been one game this season (can't remember against who) where I was truly impressed by his performance in terms of taking care of the ball.

We had like 45% possesion in the 1st half. We are not built to play ball retention pep ball. Thats a whole team thing than just bruno.

No it’s on him because this team is built for him to be the main creative hub. If we had a Bernado Silva our retention will be different because he can keep the ball under pressure and plays the less riskier passes.

The first half of this season, last season and the second half of season before how many games did he play? His shortcomings were quite visible for all to see. All you get then was “but he is the only one trying to create”, obviously because he never let anyone else get to the final third. He whacks the ball forward before they even get to the centre line, he does not allow us to gain territory.
Both Casemiro and Eriksen have shown this season you can create nearly as much with lesser risk taking.

This isn’t because of him being overplayed or burnt out. This is his game, this is how he plays. Chaotic, not in control, giving away possession cheaply. The guy can’t keep the ball to save his life.

Also, Santos isn’t Portugal manager anymore. Roberto Martinez took over from him.

Yes, he has shortcomings, every player does. He is also one of the best players on our team. When he is tired, naturally we only get his shortcomings. Same with Rashford or any other player. That's why rotation is important.

He has 9g&a compared to brunos 20 when one gets haaland, alvarez & mahrez. Bruno has Weghorst, Sancho, Antony& ronaldo in comparison. B silva is so overrated. absolutely nothing in any cup/cl fixture.
Ball retention will be better when we stop bruno playing in the role of Both casemiro & Eriksen so bruno can go back high up the pitch, be creative but have creative & defensive help also from casemiro, fred & eriksen whenever he loses the ball. A risk taker needs to play up the pitch not bloody mctominay. We are not built to play city ball & never will. Especially not 1st season, ten hags possesion teams have always been more risky than peps.

He will get rotated in time but it’s had to rotate a player when the team is built to get the best out of him. I think he is the best at what he does just don’t want that type of football at Manchester United. Very similar to Wesley Sneijder and a club like Inter under Mourinho was perfect for him.
