I can't for the life of me understand why United keep ending up in these situations. I see Sancho as a busted flush. Do i want him to do well ,like everyone, yes but I just see a player who after, at most 60 mins, is gassed on every occasion. I have no clue as to the background of the fellow but he looks alarmingly like a player who got 325k a week and mentally decided thats me done and will waddle through his contract. The only hope is a loan away with part payment of his wages to soften the blow during which the penny might drop and he resurrects his career, At the moment he is a blunt arrow promising so much whilst delivering nothing.

That's close to my assessment. It's clear that he's still low on confidence. But, the annoying thing for me is that he already had the ball in the net once in the first minute, and you'd have thought that this would buoy him and make him hungrier to get a goal or assist or do something in the game. His lack of confidence, his mentality, and his decision making all worry me. I fear that these three things are what is going to decide his time at United, rather than his ability. He's got the right manager I think in ETH and next season is make or break for him.

Sums him up really - instead of taking confidence from that moment he probably just thinks about how unfair it was that he was offside and gets in a strop about it.

Poor game without a doubt. But not giving up on him yet. The chap is way too talented and was a world beater at one stage. You dont just lose all your skills and talent overnight, you just dont. Seems like a confidence issue more than anything. Without a doubt, he has the tools and skills required to skin a fullback alive however having watching him closely, he looks really timid whenever in 1v1 situations. Reckon getting a goal or two will do his confidence a world of good. Keep the faith.
You do when you’re found out in a tougher league

He was so shit he caused those other players to get minutes when they've got no business getting minutes. It's all on him

True. Was so pissed at Elanga. Only thing that man has is pace and running and he didn't even track back to help Malacia out who was having a shocker

He was good in a poorer league against poorer opposition and he had a world class full back behind him who created the space for him so he didn't have to run at the fullback or defend.

He's lacking far too many traits to be successful at United.

Yeah we know Elanga isn't good enough for United though, he'll be gone in the summer you'd expect. That's part of the problem with Sancho though, if the fullback behind him isn't good or having a shocker he is totally ineffective because he can't create his own space and wants the under or over lap every time he's on the ball.

Sancho left out of England U-19s after missing training

Sancho's future in doubt as he fails to turn up to City training on several occasions

Dortmund fine Sancho 100k & make him train individually after returning late from England duty

Dropped to Dortmund U23s after being late several times for training

Dropped from England World Cup qualifier after being late to team meeting

Fined for breaking COVID restrictions, brands it an "absolute joke" on Twitter

Benched for Barca vs. Dortmund after missing team meeting

Rumours of Dortmund dropping him for two weeks due to breaking quarantine rules

Now some of the above might be bollocks, but there are way too many stories like this to suggest that Sancho doesn't have a history of discipline problems. He even started his career here by decided he would sack off linking up with the team and going on holiday instead, despite having barely played in the Euros.

He won't be the first young, talented player to experience growing pains like this and he won't be the last. He can still turn it round in this respect, and maybe he already has begun doing so even if the performances on the pitch haven't improved... but on WHAT PLANET do you offer a 21 year old kid a £350k a week, 5 + 1 year contract when he has a history of discipline and focus issues?

Even the most dedicated, disciplined 21 year old on the planet would be affected motivationally by receiving such a reward at such a tender age, nevermind one who has clearly demonstrated that he needs extra careful nurturing, guidance and discipline.

It was absolutely negligent of Woodward to hand out this contract. This hopefully will be the last of his big mistakes we have to resolve over the next couple of years.

Ten Hag will have a job on his hands navigating this situation when he has a dressing room including multiple Champions League winners, World Cup winners, players that work their bollocks off every week on less than Sancho when he's turning in performances like he has been. I believe Ten Hag is the man to do it, but he's been given a hospital pass by the previous regime on this one just like he was with Ronaldo.

I think concerns about his attitude are definitely justified

When he signed, barely played for England in the Euros (ending in him missing a penalty) and still opted to take his full holiday instead of coming back for United's pre-season, like other players who played more than him in the Euros, I was quite concerned about his attitude. I feel a top level player would have been desperate to get started and would have wanted to turn a new leaf. Nothing since has eased my fears about his mentality unfortunately. Last night he was very predictable.

Just such a bad bit of business now we look back at it after seeing him for more than long enough. He doesn't have the drive or belief in himself to really be a consistent difference maker at the highest level. A shame, as I remember being told about about a completely different player when we were trying to take him from Dortmund.

I don't think its his salary that's the problem. Never really understood how 200k a week creates a hungry player but 350k a week creates a complacent player. It's all silly money. I don't think a player has a weekly pay level that shuts down their effort levels.

He just generally can't be arsed putting in what's required. He's not hugely lazy, that's an exaggeration. But he's way off what's required to have a real impact at the top level. Only thing that can rescue this is a summer program of serious conditioning. From there he can build confidence. But it won't happen because as said, he simply can't be arsed.

I was with others who questioned him coming back late in his first season. Alarm bells straight away.

This confidence thing people talk about is bullshit.

We don’t know him personally & we act like he’s one of our best friends or something.

His confidence doesn’t look shot when he’s partying on holiday with his friends.

You just got to admit sometimes that shit players are shit.

His champions league performances for Dortmund was always a level below his Bundesliga performances & it was obvious to see.

Was a near G/A per game player in the Bundesliga and a 1 in 3 or 1 in 4 G/A player in the champions league.

It's been said before that he just doesn't have the drive to be the best version of himself - happy to play it simple and be passive. This coupled with his athleticism (or lack of)- I thought he'd come back from his break fitter/stronger but if anything he looks even less fit than before. Writing is on the wall for him I fear.

Yikes.

How do we just get rid though? - Have you seen his wages. He aint going anywhere I dont think.

We just have to write this guy off - perhaps even if it means subsidising parts of his wages for the next year to grease the wheel.

He looked amazing for Dortmund and England but he's terrible for us. Move him on this summer and if Antony is still crap next summer move him on too. No time for fools.

There is a player in there but boy he's (excuse my expression) a pussy sometimes.

He's so afraid to put his body on the line, like he's made of glass or something. It's obvious he has confidence issues and also doesn't seem very fit as he can barely track back without being gassed afterwards.

Antony still crap? Have you been watching United recently?

The common defence of him is that he needs movement around him and with our start last night he had that. Yet he still stuck out like a sore thumb. Very concerning.

At this point, it is obvious that he has little confidence in his own abilities. When a player who has probably the best passing technique on the pitch, misplaces three simple five yard passes in the first fifteen minutes of a Europa QF, that is not a lack of drive or anything else. You don’t have to be a friend of his to see this, it suffices knowing a little bit about how confidence and ability co-operate.

Going on holidays or smiling before or after the game doesn’t offer any explanation for that.

I thought he played quite well last game until he faded. Yesterday he was atrocious, out on his own with Malacia, but whereas Malacia looks like his confidence is thrice the size of his ability, and he acts instead of thinking several times (often with good effect, yesterday the balance was completely off), Sancho looks quite the opposite. Ponderous, overthinking, overly cautious, seems to let the mind come in the way of what his feet could easily do.

He reminds me of Gary Birtles, top scorer, league winner and Europa Cup winner with Nottingham Forest, who completely froze coming to Old Trafford and United, scoring one goal in 22 games and missing almost every touch on the way.

put Zaha in BL, he would also look like a 100 mill. player there. maybe it's just that simple.

Third choice behind Rashford and Garnacho next season. Second choice behind Antony next season. Such a terrible transfer business.

I don't just a player by a little run in form. He looked amazing when he joined, he has been rubbish for a while. He's picked up form again.

Let's see if we can get some consistency and effectiveness over the next year. Ultimately a wide forward needs to be measured by goals and assists.

I'm not passing judgement until he's had 2 full seasons at least.

I'd rather Dan James, at least he can actually run.

 Sad but true.Just don't see Sancho getting any better for us,he's a 5 a side footballer unfortunately, time to cut our losses and move on.

Crikey didn't realise he was that bad. Did we not look into this before we signed him?

Damn.

And he's not one of these maverick, "bad boy" types who have poor discipline but turn it on when it matters, either. The sort of player you'd give a bit of leeway to because they offer so much more on the pitch. Instead, he has ill-discipline (even if only some of the stories are true) combined with meek, and insipid football. I wouldn't be averse to getting rid in the summer if we possibly can.

Unless we get a high offer this Summer we'll give him another season before we consider getting rid.

But given his wage is 350k a week, if he does completely flop it will be tricky to find a buyer unfortunately. So disappointing, he seemed a perfect fit and he's just like a ghost.

Garry Birtles - that's a good comparison, had the goods but couldn't handle playing for United, it was painful watching him trying his utmost to score a goal at Old Trafford
