If ten Hag actually wants De Gea to stay, I'd sack him on the spot.
People like Murtough and Arnold have no clue what they're doing, the former didn't want to negotiate with any manager last season to not hurt Ole's feelings. He's a bigger clown than Woodward.

Really, the best thing that could happen to the club is to get the Glazers and anyone associated with them out.

It shouldn't even be his decision to make.
It should be Murtough's and if he has sanctioned it then he should be out of the door once new ownership comes in .

And Ten Hag won't last long either if he persists with De Gea for next season.
Nah, he will be fine. So will DDG

I'm imagining than in pure wages per week it will be less than half what he is on now.
hopefully, we'll see. My guess is more like 200-250k

Probably because he's not, especially relative to our actual issues which for anyone actually watching us play,. doesn't need explaining.

49 goals... 10th ranked on the League...

One of the oldest factoids about football is that goals win games. And at Manchester United, goals are something of a rarity. We are much, much better at stopping goals going in that we are at scoring them.
We are watching the games and simply think hes not good enough for the reasons pointed out many times, your argument on the other hand is statistics and there is much more to it than only the goalkeeper when we talk about how many goals we conceded. So its a flawed argument.

It is. The club can focus on bigger issues and our actual problems, like scoring goals.

Binning DDG off and receiving no fee would have meant potentially dipping into funds desperately needed elsewhere. Which would have been unacceptable.

We rank 10th for goals scored.
We rank 5th for goals conceded.
We rank first for clean sheets.

It's blatantly obvious where we are dropping most points. The hysterical reactions to anything DDG does when we can't hit a barn door are boring and until we start putting the ball on the net with far more consistency, it won't matter at all who the keeper is.

So yeh, it's a positive.
If thats the case why not stick Butland in there. And get rid of DDGs wages?

Equally, having a keeper less capable of making saves while having those attributes may also cost us 6/8 points.

Having a Harry Kane level striker would undoubtedly have gained us many more points. We'd have won the last 2 games, we'd have beat Spurs. Our lack of goals isn't due to a lack of opportunity.
There is no way to prove an other keeper wouldnt have been able to make those saves. Martinez probably made as many truly world class saves as Dave this season with his last ditch tackles.

My only hope at this point is we are truely convinced and correct(!) that someone like Kovar or an other young guy we buy can make the step up to be No.1 after easing him in over the next season.

And I do agree, that Striker is first priority but GK is right after.

If it was up to me I would have kept Romero on 80k, not gave DDG a new contract and tried to get a new No.1 right then and there. I even would have prefered Romero as No.1. and got a new striker instead.

He is a genuinely superb shot stopper. It's only because he makes ridiculous saves so often that it's become normal for him.
Ok , now you are just trolling, at least I hope so :nervous: @JagUTD

Daddy, chill!

Whether he's backup or not, the most important thing is that we reduce his wages. We have a long list of priorities and De Gea is relatively far down on that list.

If his move to Real Madrid in 2015 went through, they’d have likely dropped and sold him by 2019

United clinging on to him does feel like poor management. His peak is passed

You might be ok with us continuing to write off seasons with that coward in goal but I'm not.
Bizarre

What seasons have we written off because of De Gea? This season? The one thats not finished? Or one on the past you've somehow convinced yourself that it was all on De Gea?

Even the concept of blaming one player for the failings of a team over the course of a season make zero sense in football.

It's in the article that he's not guaranteed to be the number 1 and that we're looking for another GK with multiple sources linking us with Raya from Brentford. I think you might be overreacting a little here.
What use is he to us as a number two? He is severely lacking in too many areas. City and Liverpool rightly wouldn't swap Ortega or Kelleher for him. Plus the fact that even on his reduced salary, he would still probably be earning more than Alisson.

The only team that matters
We do need a striker quite clearly.

But do you not think one of the main reason we struggle to retain the ball is because we can't play through a press thanks to De Gea being awful at playing from the back and when we do get into sustained attack mode we struggle to maintain it because we can't implement a high defensive line to squeeze the space and be able to counter-press effectively because De Gea is a terrible sweeper and can't play behind a high defensive line?
We may struggle to beat a press but we we create enough chances currently to win most games if we could put them away, very few of us think we can't do better than DDG but we could have the best keeper in the world but we still wouldn't score enough goals, that's why a CF that scores is the most important priority

Every season that De Gea starts as our number one is a write off.

It's as simple as this.

A new number one and De Gea staying as number two on reduced wages would be perfect for me. He would be a quality backup keeper.

(But we all know we won't be getting a new keeper and he will still start next season.)
A quality back up keeper that we'd need to switch up our build up play to accomodate and is shite at penalties for when he comes in for cup games?

Sounds like the worst back up keeper you can get

With his uncanny ability to shrink under the spot light on the biggest stages he wouldn't have lasted that long at Real Madrid .

He is lucky United has been mess through out his stint here which has allowed him to escape greater scrutiny .

As much as I want us to upgrade the goalkeeper position, offering an extension is not a bad idea.

We already majorly short in other areas on the pitch so why add a GK to the list of must have additions in the summer.

We absolutely do need a new keeper but at least with this we aren’t leaving ourselves short if we rightly prioritise other areas, such as a striker.

Lost a point would be the factual argument though. Because without scoring ourselves, that's the best we could have got.
Right, but again I'm not sure the point you're making

The initial comment was ddg isn't the reason we lost
He is

If you're saying he's not the reason we didn't win, that's a completely different point

Agreed. Do you know the best way we can reduce his wages? By not paying him at all.
Sure, but there's like 10 players that we can and should sell before De Gea. And we desperately need a center forward. And a center midfielder. And a center back. And it's not like our right flank sparks a lot of joy. AWB and Dalot are fine defenders, but they don't help much going forward. And Antony has gotten enough shit recently, but yeah...

There are more pressing matters.

You can say that we 'desperately need this' and we 'desperately need that', however, we desperately need a goalkeeper. I'm sick to death of this issue being put back year after year.

Devastated that he will be here next season, likely as number one. Has been probably our biggest issue bar the CF position. Lost a lot of faith in EtH and his staff, they seem absolutely clueless regarding him. He plays every match and he hinders us every match.

Devastated?!?

I’ll admit as readily as anyone that he needs replacing, but it’s 3rd / 4th priority behind ST, CM, CB/RB.

It doesn't matter how 'main' a priority it is. It is a priority. It needs to be addressed immediately.
Of course it matters. We don't have unlimited funds. We have to prioritise. Is this not obvious? We signed WW on loan in January ffs

He makes the entire team worse, I would have him directly behind ST. Eriksen / Fred aren't too great, but far less problems than this goalkeeper who invites pressure every single game, brings insecurity in the backline and makes terrible errors that lead to goals. He's actually a huge problem and would be by far the biggest if we didn't have the two worst strikers in the league op front.

To be fair, he could easily be the worst goalkeeper in the league. The occassional gallery save doesn't change that. We could finally get rid of him, and we decide to renew his contract, just awful stuff. He doesn't even make the NT.

It's beyond belief! I'm staggered by how insistent some of our own fans are in wishing us to fail.
feck me. No one here is wishing us to fail, we just don't have unlimited funds to improve every position we need to improve on in the summer.

The failure to score lost us the game and/or cost us a point. De Geas cost us a point.

De Gea isn't the reason we lost. Just as Shaw wasn't the reason we lost to Brighton.

Not of what you said isn't true. We do need to move on from DDG. There isn't really anyone saying we don't. We'd just be shocked if we have the ability to do it this summer.

Well the ‘worst GK in the league’ is just nonsense. Some mentioning Raya as a replacement when DDG has a better pass completion rate.

- 12th in save %
- 1st in clean sheets
- 6th for GA per 90mins
- 2 mistakes leading to goals

Admittedly I’d look to move him on this summer if the right move is available, but to say he’s right behind ST when we’re playing a LB at CB is just asinine.

That's for the sole reason that our two best CB's are injuried which should be an anomaly. Give me Raya over DDG.
