As far as match day fans go, most of the lads I go with want Qatar. Just picking up the vibe from around 40 or so reds in the supporters club, not that I hold deep conversations about this with everybody. It’s not about becoming super wealthy/sugar daddy/state owned/oil club, etc. Fans just want the debt removed and owners that will invest in the club as a whole, stadium, facilities, etc. And of course, for the parasites to feck off. Qatar is seen as being the best option to becoming a well-run and again-successful club, whereas there’s a lot of apprehension around SJR and Ineos and their ability or willingness to invest what’s needed. Seeing a lot of strawman arguments over those favouring Qatar ownership as wanting to buy Mbappe, etc and build an expensive galacticos team but from fans I know this has never been the case.

There aren't any hard and fast rules. I know a few local matchgoers in their 50s who want Qatar. So there's clearly a split, which is natural.

Doesn't matter one jot what we think. The Glazers will sell to whoever they like. Stadium build and debt looked after by SJR
United fans want Glazers out more than anything . The Ineos bid that keeps the leeches involved straight away proves that Ineos are not listening to the fans. Will this change if the bid is successful? Probably not.
Ineos don't listen to anyone, including current disaffected employees. They are eroding all employee rights as we speak. Don't trust them to run us. For SJR this a purely financial project. I believe the SJ team are more passionate football fans.

This ban has nothing to do with Ratcliffe's bid. An LBO is where the debt is put on the company.

Ratcliffe, like Boehly, will put the debt on himself personally or more likely on INEOS.

The way the PL have dragged their feet on this, I half expect them to ban state and state-associated ownership next, just to make sure United can stay in the gutter. It's all round pathetic neglect of the biggest club in the PL history (so far...).

Indeed, people attributing debt repayment and some otherworldly business sense to INEOS because that aligns with their wishes is definitely frustrating.

Btw, care to post a link to what this supposed Ratcliffe 'proposal' is, seeing as they've only said no new debt on the club will be placed and that's been about it? Just to put our minds at ease that Ratcliffe is not trying to do an undercover Glazer (as he clealry is).
It's easier to admit you have no concept of what a leveraged takeover is and how Malcolm Glazer used one to take over United in under 2 years, from ownering less than 5% to a full ownership.

Glazers takeover was also aggressive, which even the most ardent anti Ratcliffe types can't claim is the case with SJRs takeover. In fact it's one of your biggest arguments against his takeover.

The fact this post gets a like is a joke.

It's been explained plenty of times that the financial situation of the club is nowhere near rosy or even as good as Arsenal's. Yet, we have oppo fans coming on here, reading off the Jenas handbook and lecturing people who have taken the time to actually understand the issues facing the club.
If only the Emirates stadium was a place and selling off naming rights was a thing.
United is supposed to protect the integrity of the league for everyone else, whilst they all run riot.

What exactly is good about this thread?

Arguing with an imaginary, self-created foe to make yourself seem better and superior is peak Twitter. What makes it even funnier is that he says he doesn't believe Twitter is real life... and then proceeds to create some unspecified and vague, but monolithic group of the fanbase, all based on a single Twitter reply by another random guy. And then goes further and puts himself above the group he created. Proper Twitter moment.

Unless he is specifically targeting Twitterites, which is probably by far the most illogical and lack of common sense thing you can do. I mean, you can't even prove the person you are responding to actually exists.
This. Also pretending that the group he is representing is some sort of homogenic group is quite hilarious when we know how divided even the regular match-going fans are on the subject. Starts by telling people what they should feel if they were to be accepted by him, then proceeds to make a point in the summary that you shouldn't tell others what to feel, was a highlight.

The amount of backtracking he had to do also shows how poorly he presented his points - if he ever had any other than the 'superior fan' angle. He responded quite mannered to the backlash though, I'll give him that.

It's not a very good look for a person representing MUST - he's indirectly trying to gatekeep "being a real mufc fan" and masking his shit take by blaming wums and bots on twitter as a representation of international fans

For starters, it would mean the Glazers are no longer at the club.

We also have a low transfer budget this season, reportedly around £100m which is no where near enough. Carrington needs modernising, so does Old Trafford. We're also heavily in debt. All of these things would be sorted by the Qatar takeover.
Thats not the transfer budget, that's the FFP budget. They are different.

Ratcliffe wanting to keep the Glazers to try and trump Jassim is something I understand. To me, it's not even about that.

I just think his ownership of Nice has been awful. It reeks of incompetence.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2023/jan/20/manchester-united-fans-nice-jim-ratcliffe-psg - Just take a gander at that. If anyone wants to debunk the stories in that article, I'm all ears.

Some highlights:

"This version of Nice, owned by a detached pharmaceutical company and lacking a true sporting director or smart recruitment policy, was unrecognisable from the precise and methodical outfit run by Rivère, Favre and Fournier in 2017.

The lack of planning and joined-up thinking left Nice with a talented but horribly disjointed squad this season.

Having taken two months to even attend a game after buying the club, Ratcliffe’s ownership of Nice can be described as “hands-off”. However, his decision-making over the last three years – although admittedly indirectly via Rivère, who remains something of a figurehead president, his brother and Brailsford – has led to Nice’s continued stagnation. The supposed aim of becoming PSG’s main rivals in Ligue 1 has never really looked like being realised. In the last 12 months alone, Ineos have sacked Fournier, Favre and Galtier, while also sidelining the popular and previously successful Rivère.

Less than six years ago, Rivère, Fournier and Favre led the best-club run club in Ligue 1, a project that became a model for the rest of the division. The future may yet be bright for Nice, but there has been plenty of change and even some chaos during Ratcliffe’s reign."

A Nice fan on Reddit: "He’s been terrible. Promising/lying to us multiple times about his dedication to the club. Putting at top management his protege Dave Brailsford who doesn’t know much about football and did the worst recruitment this summer. I think INEOS doesn’t understand football. I feel for MU fan when they will find out."

He seems more incompetent than Woodward/the Glazers in terms of running a football club.
It dosen’t reek of incompetence, it reeks of disinterest and unwillingness to get mugged off by trying to outspend a state from a tiny base with near zero capacity to generate its own funds.

While the United situation is very clearly an old sinner trying to have a legacy in his home place. Couldn’t be more different.

That's interesting. You saying match going fans (based on your experience) are pro-Qatar (unless i read your response wrong)? Would have thought it's majority other way, especially according to what wumm's been trying to say in here.
I've posted this in other threads. The general sentiment from locals and match goers is Qatar. They'll all have their own reasons, but the fact they've declared no debt and gentrifying Stretford will likely be big contributors.

Even fan groups like 1958 have announced publically they're anti-Ratcliffe (despite using his face for the protests in September), but I don't know if they've gone as far as publically aligning with the Qatari bid.

How many people have received DMs asking if you want to join a WhatsApp group to discuss the owners?

I have no idea why I've been invited.

What if someone cannot afford to go watch football games. Does that make them less of a fan?

What if they have agoraphobia?
Email MUST and attach a letter from a verified therapist for proof of agoraphobia. Your case will then be processed through a panel of local lad judges and wait for their feedback in 2-3 weeks.

Spoiler alert: You are still not superior.

Yeah, his account is linked to his position as Chairperson of MUST or whatever so I think he has no choice. He even said he regrets not using a personal account to make his statements - as if that made it alright. Honestly, he could have made his point without the the superiority complex and the whole match-going vs non-match-going fans aspect.

Once it gets to this guy's desk, you can be sure he'd smack that "Rejected" stamp down on it hard with a superior smirk on his smug face.

As a former season ticket holder, load of rubbish.
“If you can’t afford to go to OT then your opinion doesn’t matter”
Of course it matters more though, and that's as someone who isn't a season ticket holder or has been in over 10 years.

Core support is the bedrock of every single club, from 10th tier regional sides pulling sub 100 fans to the giants of the game. The people who will still be there, whether you are on top of the world or about to go bust ala Wigan, Bury and the rest.

Why people get upset over this while sat at home streaming off DavePTV or paying 1/10th the price for a legal service is beyond me.

You might want to educate yourself on what it costs to legally watch United outside of the UK.....

Lets take my country as an example. For me to watch United every week I have to pay 56,85 pounts per month. Now if United are in the Europa League I will have to pay 22 pounds on top of that every month.

Price varies but it's more often than not, cheaper than it costs for limited coverage we get in the UK.

If there are even any that are more expensive then they are outliers.

I gave you the example from Denmark. Thats more expensive then the price per match for season tickets. And just to add I have been to Old Trafford and I loved that experience and want to go again, but that trip was very expensive and I dont think alot of our fans have the income to support that kind of trip, especially on a regular basis.

Is it only Qatari propaganda that you swallow unquestioningly? Do you also believe that the North Korean people get enough food to eat? SJ is an irrelevance to this bid. He is not involved in the negotiations, it is a state bid.

In Norway it costs £55,72 for Premier League and £29.68 for Champions League each month at the moment.

They will probably increase right before season starts like usual.

Thats just ego and self importance showing its head.

Also the notion that only fans that go to OT will “still be there” if the club went bust is silly (again its ego and self importance)

How about we get this thread back on topic and leave the other BS for other parts of the forum?

Where are we on this takeover because some are saying Qatar are close whilst others saying Ineos are “most likely” whilst both parties have no evidence to back up their predictions.

Its all so very tedious now.

Look beyond United and at football in general. Where the global fanbases don't even exist for most clubs and where their very existence is largely determined by those that go every week.

Then say that the match going fanbases opinions don't matter just a little bit more.

Should United ever experience such a drastic collapse that we do a Rochdale, who are going to be the people keeping the club from going down the pan?

There's this weird obsession by people to underline the value of the core fan base. It makes no sense and smacks of insecurity imo. Again I am far from a core supporter, I'm one of the 99% and I take no offence from it. I'm slightly envious tbh but that's about it.

Note I haven't said they are better fans, just that there opinions should matter a little bit more, at least on matters relating directly to the club and match day experience.

It literally matters more.

The gate receipts help raise funds for the club and the support at the stadium is obviously a factor in the great home record last season.

Blows my mind how determined people are to be in denial about this. I don't go to OT every week, so my support matters less than someone who does. That's a fact and it doesn't bother me in the slightest. How fragile do you have to be to be bothered about this?!

Agree that fans are the bedrock but this is Manchester United and not a team that struggles to sell out.

It's called the Theatre of Dreams for a reason, people want to go. It is a privilige and not a burden.

Even in the 70's when United were relegated the stadiums were full home and away, United coming to town is like a carnival.

This club is different, it has a magic about it.

If people feel that they can't go then give the ticket to someone who can't afford it, I'm sure they will thank you forever.

Where would United be without the TV money?
