His actual stats for last season are 2177 mins played 16 goals and 2 assists for club and country that's the equivelant of 24 games played not exactly poor.
Correct.

People keep churning out 9 league goals as though he played the full season and the whole 90 minutes for them.
Those are decent stats but more interesting would be the break down of his goals as starter and sub because that stat might be more useful to ascertain how ready he is to start regularly for United or not .

That is a lot of money for a 20 year old with 9 league goals.
For the love of Jupiter, will people stop framing it that way?

His record is a goal every two games, and he ended up with 20 overall goals last season. Comparatively, his goal per minute is good, especially for his age.

I understand that it's a bunch of money for potential, sure, but every time someone says, "he only scored 9 league goals", you can bet your last dollar that they made assumptions about how many minutes they played.

It’s crazy imo. I’m really surprised how swept in it people have got.

BUT, he does look good. You can see there’s potentially a beast of a striker there, but he’s literally done nothing, and the PL, and Utd especially IS a beast.

I just can’t get past the cynical feeling with this one.
There is a lot to like about him. His size, his technique, his ability with the back to the goal, and his quick feet. However, the lack of goals is concerning for a leading striker at a top 4 PL club.

His per 90 per fbref in Serie A is 0.44, that would make him comparable to Ollie Watkins, and Cody Gakpo.

Haaland; 1.17. Wilson; 0.86. Firminho; 0.82. Kane; 0.79. Mitrovic; 0.63. Toney; 0.61. Etc.

His goal per 90 would make him the 17th most prolific striker in the league. This season he was the 86th most prolific player in Europe per 90.

We're buying potential here, not a finished player. It would be unfair to expect this kid to score more than 12-18 goals next season.

70 million euros is a lot and I rather hope that won't be the case. It would make him this windows Antony. A player we clearly overpay for, primarily to placate the managers idea.

But it's still preferable to pontificating all window, and ending up with a placeholder at the end of it because we didn't act.

I'd rather spend 70 million euros, get this guy out on tour and settled and playing in his new surroundings than arsing around all window. I think that's important.
Yeah I agree it's a lot but we are paying for potentially what he could become under Erik

Lukaku - 10 goals & 6 assists - 1664 minute's
Højlund - 9 goals & 4 assists - 1834 minutes.

Serie A only.
Both are average. But Hojlund might come good. While we all know Lukaku is a donkey. Hope we won't have to overpay too much though.

More stats = Less interesting from my perspective :)

I agree with the first part, he’s this seasons Antony, an ok/decent player who’s worth signing at a certain fee but who we are being asked to massively overpay for. I just can’t balance that with the second part of your post where you’re saying we should still do it anyway, given the issues overpaying on Antony caused last season. If he comes in and isn’t banging in the goals, we’ll be looking for another striker on the loan market in January to add more goals to the side

I want a striker as much as anybody, but feel we’ll be having buyers remorse if we pay anything over 50m for this guy.

And before you ask, no, I don’t have any alternative targets, they’re all equally underwhelming.

Keep the cash, make do and wait for the right player to appear and become available. Get a mediocre loan in who ticks some boxes if necessary. Or someone like a Taremi if cheap enough.

One thing about strikers. You also need the service. Rasmus is excellent at creating space for himself with his runs and being at the right place in the box. We have quite a few players who are excellent at creating chances. Having Rasmus at the end of those chances would give us goals.

Nonsense, I'm being realistic. Expecting this kid to tear things up in the Premier League next season would be unfair on the player and unrealistic given the numbers we are seeing. As I've said, I like the kid - but he's not an obvious candidate to lead the line at a top 4 club.

To put things in perspective, the only player that scored more than him last season in our club was Rashford.

That’s how underwhelming our attack was last season. He’s easily an improvement for us even without taking into account of his potential.

Yep totally unrealistic and that's why I hoped we could get an experienced goalscorer on a cheap deal as well. Someone like this Taremi (yes I know what the Porto fan said) or Dembele who is free agent but not joined Saudi revolution.

Didn't atalanta want Greenwood on loan (even though I think united should re-introduce back into the side), maybe offer him as part of the deal.

While I agree he's an improvement, I think you underestimate how hard the media will go at him for being a €70M (wrongly reported to be £80M by the time we are done) in January when Kane, Osimhen and Haaland are tearing it up and have numbers that he can never match.

Leading the line for Man Utd is one hell of an ask, and a completely different beast than playing for most other clubs. While we might not care about the fee, or his goalscoring output, the media will. The pressure on this kid will be immense. He will be directly compared to Kane and Haaland.

Hence why we should sign experienced cheap one because then it helps to takes pressure off

Don't give a feck about country stats. International football is just a different game. I care for his club shirt performances and how he's fared in those.

It's not bad but its not remotely great either.

Who should be and is remotely available? Also how many goals should be the floor?
I’d go for Lautaro or Ramos. But if ETH is hellbent on Hojlund we would need a decent stop gap at least. We need a striker that can score 15+ goals in the league

And why is that? What if he managed to translate that to Premier League so he would get around 17 goals in 38 matches?

Or do you think because he "only" scored 9 goals there, he will score less in PL by default, without taking into account that he will be playing for a much better team?

Haaland scored 22 goals in Bundesliga in his last season for Dortmund, a number that Weghorst came close to, but when he went to a better team in PL, he scored 36 goals.

We aren’t a top team though and have been hovering in and out of the top 4 for the past decade. We have to make the best out of the available options.

Absolutely certain this won't be sorted in time to play any part of the US tour unfortunately. The very earliest would be either the Lens or Bilbao games.

Why not stop giving a feck about stats and argue about how his actual performances are?

There is nothing in his stats that suggests he won't be able to score 15+ goals. It's the 20+ mark he might struggle with.
