Makes you wonder what 'preparing' for a bid entails that it seems to take weeks. Like some Einstein working out mathematical equations. Obviously we don't know the intricacies of a transfer beyond the FM style of bidding that we have in mind
We’re building a fire to send our bid by smoke signals. We need to find a day that isn’t wet for us to send our bid.

Last winter Højlund was not even in the squad for Denmark in the World Cup, now everyone knows him and he is going to United.

Well I guess if you're going to quote a record you might as well be truthful. Michael Owen didn't score 46 goals in his first year, nevermind 1800 minutes. In fact if we were to go by goals per 90 he's pretty much the same. Greenwood and Ferguson both scored 10 goals in the league and were rightly lauded.

Any teenage striker who can score in a big league is talented.
You literally said record amount of goals in Serie A for a teenager. I'm quoting you, not any record. You never mentioned which year or how many minutes.

Again, not in a single season, a simple Google search would verify this for you. No teenager has scored as many goals as Hojlund in a single season in Italy. This is still a league which loves to defend and plenty of teenagers who went on to have amazing careers don't have that record. No doubt its a risk but its still an impressive achievement for any new kid on the block.
I did do a simple search and Balotelli scored 9 league goals in 1390 minutes in Serie A when he was aged 18. Guisseppe Meazza scored 31 when he was 19 in 1929/30.

Whenever a news report says 'we understand', it typically means they know absoutely feck all since the previous developments and just want to keep the story ticking over.

We'll probably get an Orny update Saturday saying an agreement has been reached. Fly to the UK Monday, announced Wednesday.

Fair play to our recruitment team this summer

They've been much better.

seriously I’m not having a go, but can someone explain to me roughly what the process entails for a transfer like this? Why are we repeatedly getting the same “breaking news” that he is getting “closer”? i appreciate it’s just the press being the press but there’s nothing to be report and there hasn’t been for weeks? #edging closer. We know were interested yes, so he is.. so why aren’t we wrapping it up?

If he comes here, the pressure on this young lad will be insane. :nervous:
I don't think he'll be Erling Haaland from day 1 but I think he'll be liked. I predict he'll become a favourite even on this forum. Fans love a tenacious footballer. (Cavani, Martinez, Garnacho, Casemiro) he has that fire as well, it will buy him time more than a Sancho, Pogba or Lindelof type.

In a nutshell we are talking to Atalanta daily haggling between our initial position of 50+10 and their ask of 70+5. The actual written transfer bid does not go in until both sides have essentially agreed the terms of the deal and are ready to make it official. The teams are discussing not just the fee but the structure of payments etc. which for every club seems to take time and the ITK mob on social media will just update that talks are ongoing every few hours to keep the clicks coming. If you follow closely enough you can get a good sense of what is genuine and where the deal is and in this case it is fairly clear we are almost there with the deal likely to be announced and wrapped up by the middle of next week. The final step was Atalanta completing the signing of their Rasmus replacement, that deal concluding is the clincher that Rasmus is moving and with PSG not really interested in a bidding war we have a green light to close the deal.

No doubt when this is done, BBC will report it as £400m and £900k a week.
I think you've got the wrong end of the stick with this.

It's only the fans who care about seeing low figures in the press for player purchases and wages.

The club directors actually want to be seen as big spenders. That was Woodward's whole spiel.

The figures that the BBC report come straight from the club. Because those are the numbers the club want the world to hear about. It's good PR for them and it distracts from accusations of the Glazers being cheapskates.

Seems like about a 20% overpay I'd say. Makes sense, they and every other club that had a striker knew they'd have us over a barrel in negotiations because there was no chance we were going the entire summer not signing one. I'm still very excited for this kid, more so than I think many here are because he's got all the tools and physical profile to be a beast for us

If he's that desperate, then he can put in a transfer request to grease the wheels.
No point, as Atalanta are willing sellers. If this falls through, then he might think about a transfer request. Unlikely though.

Interesting take fella. I did not think of it this way but could be some truth to that. Suppose that's totally the opposite of Liverpool who want to be seen as a very well run club, getting players on the cheap and paying them peanuts! Hence usually giving out base fees to the media regarding all their signings e.g. Nunez, Mac Allister.

Being part of a transfer that fans are invested in plays a big part of it.

For example, the entire internet fandom was desperate for Sancho. So he's been given loads of leeway for much longer than he deserved.

With Maguire, the prevailing attitude was that we overpaid on day one. So the vultures were circling for years until they finally got a chance to swoop in.

With Antony, it was something in between. Some thought €100m was worth it because he was EtH's man. Others believed he was worth only a little over half of that. As a result, he's been getting unfairly criticised in some quarters, but overly praised in others.

McTominay was homegrown with little hype in the academy. He was never going to supported as much as, say, Angel Gomes.

I think much of the way players are supported comes from what people decided to believe before a ball was even kicked for the first team. And then those people wait for as long as it takes to get their biases to be confirmed.

Mount is eventually going to get huge pelters. Just looking at his transfer thread, you can already predict exactly which posters are going to lead the charge.

Happily for Hojlund, I think he'll get lots of support.

Its a big part of why Mctominay made it at united at all and it's why Antony is more serviceable than Sancho for example. Antony cost 100m and people were expecting a Vinicious or Robben.
We can pull those players again if we get some success IMO.

Hojlund is a done deal now I think

I guess Raz is right for english native speakers.

He was 19yo, missed preseason with Atalanta and came from Austrian Bundesliga. But many people knew him back then, it was not just Atalanta, PL clubs (especially Newcastle) where also keen for him when he still played for Sturm Graz.
