Colombia will probably be the weakest team in the Quarters, Nigeria are better

England really have no excuses but big changes needed by Sarina

Yeah, I get the feeling more and more that we will have the toughest opponent in the QF with Spain. Win that one and NL is close to becoming WC.

Well, the Matildas might want to start brushing up on the French team ahead of Saturday's QF at the magnificent Suncorp Stadium (Lang Park) in Brisbane where it'll be rather warm on Saturday.

This time Diani acts as a playmaker for Dali, whose shot hit the post and in. Eugénie Le Sommer stood in an offside position, but she was not active in the play just as the goalkeeper had no chance whatsoever.

France 2-0 Morocco.

I might need three hands for counting today. 3-0.

Yikes! That was a disaster by El Chad, who kicked the ball off Diani and into the path of Le Sommer in the danger area.

France 3-0 Morocco.

Ouch - didn't hold much hope for Morocco but hoped they could at least put up a good fight

I guess they should be happy just to get this far

With the way France play without worrying for goals anymore, I think the Matildas better pray that it won't be a similar outcome to the 2014 Belo Horizonte Massacre for the home team.

Dunno about you, but I feel France have chosen energy-saving mode in this half. I'm bored right now.
They did the same vs Panama. It’s fair enough. No need to overexert themselves when they have much tougher games on the horizon.

Plus why would you humiliate an opponent with 12-0 score in a knockout game where the number of goals don't matter to get you through to the next round?

Le Sommer scores her second of the night with a header, after Bècho sent a very good aerial ball at the far post.

France 4-0 Morocco.

Bècho is gonna be world class, only 19 too. Just like with their men academy, PSG women academy produces great players but they cant keep any of them.

Colombia do just enough to go through. Jamaica didn't start taking risks to go forward until the last few minutes and overall Colombia were the better team.

England play Colombia in the QF on Saturday. England need to play better than they did against Nigeria. Colombia will probably enjoy going back to the underdog role and are good enough defensively to frustrate England and maybe to catch them out going forward.
Yeah if Jamaica had played close to how they played against Panama then this would have been a better game. Occassion got to them as well as not being as good as the top teams. Making it out the groups was amazing but seeing what Colombia did on the day then a quarterfinal loss instead of a Ro16 loss was on the table.

Colombia impressed me vs Germany. England can’t expect anything, even if they are favorites. In fact, this tournament has shown that nobody can expect an easy pass at this level anymore.

Ye absolutely - this tournament has shown England are nowhere near the level of the team that won the Euros and the Colombians will try to make up for lack of experience with physicality

Quarter finals - UK times and broadcasters:

Friday 11 Aug
2am - Spain v Netherlands - ITV
8.30am - Japan v Sweden - BBC

Saturday 12 Aug
8am - Australia v France - ITV
11.30am - England v Colombia - ITV
Without Van den Donk I feel like the Netherlands misses a hugely important piece of their puzzle, but they seem to have a fairly balanced squad across the board so maybe its not as dire as it seems. Still picking Spain to win that one, but hoping for a good match.

Japan have been hugely impressive and should beat Sweden imho -though Sweden will likely try to exert physical dominance.

Australia v France seems everybody s game, but still picking France to take it. France seems to lack some offensive and defensive balance, and Australia primarily offensive threat. Could be fun.

England v Columbia under different circumstances would be expected to go England's way but save for Spain and Japan I think none of the perennial favorites have been overwhelming their opponents. This one seems hard to call as well. James will be missing, no?

Bummer Spain vs The Netherlands is on so late as it may be an exciting match, but I guess the organisers expected the US to be there instead of the European teams.

My picks for winners

England

Out of that lot I have no idea who will win the whole thing.

Third match I can't watch live because of these ridiculous times.
