Why he persists with the McTominay sub for an attacker I don’t know. It’s never failed to invite more pressure and make us worse.

He'll need to light a hell of a fire under the players arses if we're getting anything against Spurs. Possibly the worst starting performance I've ever seen from United.

Before Mount gets the blame: we were actually worse after he got subbed.

ETH needs to sort this mess out. We got literally outplayed

It's not as if he wants to see this kind of performance. He's obviously trying to train them to play better, just as every manager before him has tried. For whatever reason it looks like an impossible task to get United to consistently play great football. Why that is I have no idea
He’s trying to retrain them to be different types of footballers to what they are by the looks of things. Doesn’t he read the manuals when he buys these players?

This man knows more about football than I ever will. However, I don't know how he thinks we can get away with Mount besides Bruno or why he wanted to spend £60m on him when players like MacAllister were on the market for that. We are in for a hiding unless we get a proper #8 and a competent replacement for Casemiro.

That was awful; like really fecking awful. Hopefully it's just a sluggish start because we'll need to play a-lot better against Spurs on Saturday.

If we keep playing like that throughout the season but I'm sorry there's no excuse for him.

How do other managers come in (Ange for eg.) come in and change the way their team plays immediately and we're still struggling?

Team wasn't physically ready, that is poor from Ten Hag and the coaches.

Same. It doesn't take this long to get things going.

He's currently failing.
If he fails we'll be in the same cycle of having to shift another managers dozens of expensive signings on high wages. It's like an endless nightmare.

MacAliister wanted to go to Liverpool, we were never going to get him.

Because Mac Allister was so good for Liverpool yesterday...

Fine with it if he is sitting beside Cas and just being a shield, but never a striker and doesn't have that Fellaini ability to hold the ball.

Seriously worried.

That was as bad as I can remember of anything that has been served up over the last 10 years.

Struggling to find a single positive aspect apart from the result. It’s the clear lack of any kind of tactical play that is the most concerning. They literally looked like they didn’t know what they were supposed to do with the ball.

All I have heard from posters here that he’s the one, his football, his Ajax team bla bla bla. And all I see is ole ball at best. His sole emphasis is on transitioning and counter attacking.

Worst performance in ages. We look slower, weaker and lazier than I have ever seen us.

Complete overreaction or you haven't seen the last 10 years. It has been much, much worse than that. Wasn't a good performance but is what it is, got away with it.

I just haven't seen this amazing football he's supposed to be able to produce. He has a team that is practically his now and it's just the same as what we've had for a few years now.

He has made 2 outstanding signings since he arrived in Martinez and Casemiro, the jury is out on the rest, Amrabat could be a potentially astute signing and Hojland is an unknown quantity, but what is a concern is the lack of a proven quality striker, I guess we'll find out all the shortcomings as the season unfolds.

We were overmatched in almost every department by one of the worst teams in the league. That’s unacceptable - even if it’s just the first game of the season.

Casemiro, Bruno and Mount won’t work. The midfield is going to get him the sack unless someone comes in OR Mainoo is a relegation when he comes back.

In attack, Hojlund better be the second coming of R9.

I’m starting to worry. He’s spending huge amounts of money and the only signing that has been an absolute 100% success is Martinez. 80 million on Antony, 70 million on Casimero, 55 million on Mount? Those are seriously questionable decisions. Yes he’s clearing out a lot of the deadwood, but he’s just replacing it with more that the next manager will need to clear out all over again.

The less said about the style of football the better. And I’m saying this as someone who really really likes Ten Haag as a person and desperately wants him to succeed.

He’s building his time around energy and hard work….they just walked around that pitch for 90 minutes and didn’t look interested. Worrying that it’s the first game and the players look disinterested

Theres just no style of play to the point of simple passing looks like a chore

People said we would improve. Of course. We have to.

This playing style with the middle getting wide open happened too many times last season in our worst games. I said that there was no sign of us correcting it with the style of play or signing so far a couple of weeks ago; someone said here that I was making things up. Well..

Saying all of it, I would take any kind of three points.

Yeah, that's just not true. MacAllister would have gone to any top 4 or established top 4 side that were in for him- if we'd been in with a bid and pushed harder, there's just as much chance if not more we would have got him. They're a 'big club' but not feckin Real Madrid approaching a Brazilian, and certainly not bigger than united. Players always tell white lies after they sign - see Kane suggesting that he wouldn't have gone to a PL rival (2 years after he went on strike, for a short time at least, to try and sign for City, and where stories were leaked all over the place suggesting he'd be amenable to signing for Ten Hag earlier this summer).

I'm not sure what he's playing at with that midfield. We will NEVER challenge City or Arsenal with that midfield. Never. It is not possible with that setup. Surely, he must see it?

Dunno if they players have been overworked or underworked in preseason but they don't look like a team peaking physically and ready for a fast start, could take us 4-5 games to get up to speed going off that game.

Nah, honestly it's up there with the worst. No more than a handful of times, if even that, have we been so completely outplayed at Old Trafford by a bottom-table side.

Despite good results last season, it was worrying that we didn't make more progress in terms of performances. There are no excuses now, this is his team, he's spent a fortune, and we must improve quickly.
