Are you just a thick cnut or have you just forgot what happened to the last guy that brought him back? Ratcliffe hasn't exactly got an army of supporters amongst our fanbase, it would be a terrible move.

Me personally though, I'll cancel my season ticket if he comes back.
Depends on the general societal attitude towards Greenwood at that point in the future - perhaps the old saying of time heals all wounds will hold true.

I'd give it around half a second before your season ticket is snapped up by someone else on the gargantuan waiting list.

He was productive on our right hand side, wasn't one of those "if you slot him in the peak City side with Pep managing him he'd look good" system player.

I recall we were still dissatisfied and spent 157 million and got pretty much zero return.

Maybe in time we can bring him back, an influential right sided player is pretty rare. His main ability to me was diagonal shooting with both feet. Not sure he's even a central striker. Lots of assist now in Spain and he was becoming a more rounded player before he got in trouble.

United fans getting carried away again. It was a great goal but that’s it. Doesn’t guarantee that he’s gonna play for years at this level or disappear like macheda
What this Mason thread, & to an extent the Garnacho thread, show is how devoid of real quality the fanbase has been treated to lately.

My mate sent me a Forlan highlight video yesterday & first thing I said was, ‘remember when we could let talented players leave, be successful elsewhere, & not be bothered other than being happy for them’.

The reason I’m following Mason so keenly is because he’s still the best attacker contracted to the club, & that’s a damning thing to say leading into 2024.

I think sometimes people forget Greenwood was still a teenager when he became a regular for our starting team. He was still learning the game - at a first team level - and growing into his body. Once you contextualise that, and how he performed for an incredibly dysfunctional team - as well as the company he’s in in terms of highest scoring teenagers in the prem - I don’t know how anyone can be overly critical of his game then
The boy got 10 league goals in his first full season, we currently have a £60mil striker who looks like a deer in headlights in front of goal.

Had he not been a wrong’un off the field he was a bonafide star. As we’re seeing at a team below his level he’s a ridiculous talent.

I don’t think you can compare saka and greenwood. Saka is a winger who had time at full back and greenwood is a wide forward. He’s always going to score more goals if they’re both at their peak

Officially the best poker player on RAWK.

Don't waste your time or risk infractions with that one.

The excuse he made for Greenwood in the other thread was one of the most pathetic posts in there and that's really saying something. He's still in the noobs for a reason.

This is very true. As sad as that may be.

Forlan was far better than what we have now, we forget just how many players we had that we perhaps thought weren't all that at the time but actually spoilt us with the depth.

So do what do we do?

The Sevilla stadium (although they are not the best Sevilla side at present) is no mean feat. It is an intimidating atmosphere.

He will playing away to Atletico Madrid in 3 days time.

You can claim Greenwood is or has been better than Saka if you are delusional, to be fair.

Mason had around 22 goals in 4,500 PL mins.
Saka is on 36 goals in 11,500 PL mins.

It's not a stretch by any means to make the claim that, at the time Mason was operating in the PL, at that point, Greenwood was looking more productive.

But..........since that time Saka has added around 30-odd assists, and even if his minute per goal ratio isn't as good as Greenwood, if you factor in overal G+A he's likely to be a more influentual player overall in general play.

It’s like comparing Salah and Diaz. They both play wide but they’re different players
Fair. But there is serious underrating of Saka and overrating of Greenwood going on in this thread. If i were an arsenal fan, i would be laughing at this thread on whatever the Arsenal equivalent of redcafe is.

It’s hard to tell if he has lost his explosiveness or whether he’s adapting his game to a different system.

He plays a lot deeper for Getafe than he did for United. For Getafe he is more of a wide midfielder in 442 than a forward. He plays for a team that is fairly defensive and direct. As such, he doesn’t get many opportunities to stand up a defender 1 vs. 1 and let a shot off as he used to regularly for United. Nor does he do a lot of running In behind the defenders. He does hold the ball up often, but holding it up with a full-back breathing down your neck is different to doing so with a 6 ft. + centre-back.

I’m yet to see him as part of the two forwards to assess the development of his game.

I'm talking about Greenwood being the quick fix. He was obviously one of our best players and our best young talent in many years. I was a huge fan of him. But I'm not so desperate to overlook everything else in the hope he'll score us a few goals.
I am surprised you have not considered cancelling your season ticket now (I am not patronising you, I am being genuine).

What is currently being displayed by Manchester United is not befitting of someone's earned money. Not in my opinion anyway. That is also before you get to the ownership issues and the fact Joel Glazer promised more communication with the supporters.

I’ve said time & again, I want my footballers to play football so I’d bring him back as was the plan all along before the hierarchy put out a statement which actually muddies things further come season end.

That may have been true. I think he has lowered his ceiling substantially and people are vastly underrating Saka who has been phenomenal for Arsenal.
What does this even mean?

Forget Saka vs Greenwood for a minute, how can you make that comment? Have you been to training? Do you have some inside intelligence?

This is the problem. You come down on a certain side of the whole Mason argument, which is your prerogative, but ‘i think he’s lowered his ceiling’ utter nonsense.

He doesn't need to be amazing to be better than Antony. Diallo will likely be better just by virtue of doing anything with the ball.

I do think him playing deeper is actually good for his overall game. Too often at United he'd look to shoot as soon as he got the ball. A year regularly playing deeper with no pressure is great from him.

R.e. Saka - he's always been better, even when younger. He has an all round game - passing, dribbling and now finishing - which is much rarer in wide forwards. For me he's now easily the most valuable RW in the world (given Salah's age). Doesn't mean Greenwood can't get close though, he needs regularly minutes to develop.

He was one of the best young players in Europe, and he lost a season and a half or more of development at a critical stage of his career. He also had to deal with the psychological fallout of what happened. That is an incredible amount of mental stress and personal turbulence for someone to deal with, especially someone so young. It is logical to assume that this also detracted from his professional development.

What would we expect from Greenwood had he not been charged and placed under house arrest? Surely we would be expecting 15+ goals/season and a starting place at our club. He is just not there now, so from a football development standpoint he took a big backward step in his career, and football careers are so short that this has lasting impact through the years. Maybe he will get back to where he would have been, but i don't see how this could be true logically... Hence my lowering the ceiling comment.

Edit: let alone the extra hurdles he will face of coming back to England or potentially playing at a big European club, etc.

Minimum €100m to sell. If we sell for anything less everyone involved in that deal should be fired.

Come on Ratters, do the right thing! The boy's quality is undeniable and should be helping us to progress as a team. They should be pulling out all the stops to re-integrate him. His performances are already showing that the break away from football has not had too much of a negative effect on him.

Just imagine what this guy's going to be like next season?

You don't sell 'damaged' goods for £100m. If you reckon he's worth that much and going to continue playing professional football, he should be playing for Manchester United.

You seriously want the club to do anything they can to make him part of the team again?

Sorry but all the above reads as is the club you support no longer have access to a player, said player is going to be successful elsewhere so you’ve built some mythical ceiling that he’ll never reach no matter how good he eventually becomes.

His ceiling remains the same, he’s lost valuable time in getting to it but his ceiling isn’t significantly lower. I agree he’s had a ‘set back’ in his development but that doesn’t not collapse his ceiling.

What’ll happen is, he will go to a major European club & win things so to make yourself feel better you’ll talk of some career he didn’t have all whilst he was ‘never’ any better than Caf fav Buyako fecking Saka anyway.

He’s not scoring 15+ goals because he’s on loan at some mid-table Spanish team, this is where context matters & the discussion ventures into being disingenuous. You could be coming at this saying he’s spent 18 months out the game so some ramping up is required & he’s playing in a team that doesn’t always dominate but no.

When, if ever, was the last time Getafe got 15 goals from a 21 year old RW? Might be last season for all I know but I highly doubt it is a regular occurrence around La Liga as a whole.

I get it mate, I’m pissed he likely won’t make it here too.

If Mason Greenwood went to Arsenal and became a success story the press would love him. His misdemeanours would become mere footnotes.

Football sanctimony is and always has been selective. Players are villains and heroes depending on the badge emblazoned on their chest. The press never want after David Luiz, despite the most egregious examples of cheating. They also gave Luis Suarez a very easy ride for countless times he bit people and even racially abused someone.

While there's no doubting what Greenwood did was deeply wrong, and that he should be cast off, but the fact that he is attached to this club is why he will be villified. If he were an Arsenal or Manchester City player, he would still be playing in their first team.

What did David Luiz ever do.

I think there’s a sizeable % within the fanbase who will accept pretty much anything Ratcliffe does.

From a purely footballing point of view. We all go on about the academy it’ll be a shame if the best talent from our academy and a local lad ends up having the best years of his career at a top Prem or European club. I can see him ending up at the most elite level.

I mean it's not like Barca can really pick and choose their targets with their current economic situation.
I don't know. If any team can defy economics then it's one that just makes it up as it goes along, or as they say in Spain, Barcelona.
