I don’t agree with the crowd. The first yellow was given after persistent fouling. He couldn’t keep up with their press and physical play, on the small pitch, so repeatedly fouled .
I would be screaming at the TV if an opposition DM didn't get booked after all that. Deserved to be sent off on the balance of things but obviously pleased he didn’t.
I imagine you're screaming at the TV a lot then, as most teams have a DM (and often CB) who can spend most games committing plenty of fouls (not always given, such as holding at every set piece) without getting first half bookings - let alone face calls to be sent off so early for all their cumulative fouls.
Casemiro is being reffed differently. And while, out of context, you can certainly make a case that so many bitty fouls
should add up to two yellows - when the other teams 'designated foulers' (DM and 'old fashioned' CB) are allowed to do likewise each game and largely go unpunished, then in
that context the way Casemiro is being reffed, and analysed by the media, is really frustrating.
None of that defends his poor performances this season. But he was good last year and was
still being reffed differently and developing an unfair reputation that he hadn't had all those years for Madrid and Brazil.
