What now?

I don't see a way forward without the club getting sold.

We're truly where we deserve as a team. Our position in table reflects our performances perfectly. Can't really blame this on luck or injuries.

We have a lot of potentially good players, but they won't flourish in this environment. They need top players around them. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the likes for Yoro, Garnacho and Amad start regressing next season.

Some people like to think that spending isn't the answer to our current problem, just because we fecked up signing poor players in the past for a lot of money, but the reality is that all the top clubs outspend those around them, we just did it poorly.

We simply need owners who are willing to invest. If the current leadership accepts that a push for top 10 next season is progress, then we'll remain where we are for the foreseeable future. If we try signing a good player here and there we won't move forward.

Hanging the Glazers and Sir Jim RATcliffe by their balls from the highest spike we can find.

They are to blame.

No DoF because Big Bollocks Berrada thinks he can do everything. Jason Wilcox and Vivell who have little experience given the run of the club. Not enough data analysis for transfers. How are we gonna rebuild?

When Ralf R was here, he performed badly and at the season's end not a single person wanted him to continue being our manager. Not one.
Amorim has done much much worse than Ralf R and there are some in here wanting him to stay? This makes no sense.
Without doubt our worst season. How can any manager survive the sack when he resided over the worst EPL season, by far?

It’s not. Look what the club just did to staff, season ticket holders etc. now we have ZERO money from European competition next season, ZERO. You think sir jim is gonna swallow that? We will be selling our best players, at discount prices, and replacing with academy players/loans/players who aren’t good enough to be top ten in the PL.

Trust me, the glory days are officially over. We are more likely to be relegated before we win the PL again, let that sink in

This.

Plus RATcliffe has gutted decades old structures.

We are in a Leeds like decline.

Losing a cup final to Spurs to miss out on CL footy is a fitting end to this pathetic season. Lowest we’ve sunk in recent memory.

This will probably end up a blessing in disguise anyway, tbh. What were we realistically going to do in the champions league next year? It has been a crap season and now we need a complete teardown.

If Amorim brings in his own players next year, gets rid of the deadweight, and we still look awful. Then we can have a serious conversation.
He wont have his players net season. Delap and Cunha + maybe 1 or 2 Dorgus. thats it. Unless we go all in and sell Bruno, Garnacho, Mainoo and Amad. Even then you need to overpay players to convince them to come to this shitshow.

We don't play through midfield because this system forces 100% of progression through the wing backs. It focuses the ball among the CBs and the CM's, and then we have one fewer attacker than normal because of the system, and the attackers who we have to pick out are a charity case who wouldn't start for the relegated sides, Mount who has always been an invisible man, and then Amad to just do every bit of progressing or Garna when he plays. But it's never both of them on unless we're desperate (we actually started progressing on the left side once he came on).

Also, ha. Yes, every single club in the world can use someone like Modric in his prime, he's one of the best midfielders of all time

Its not the system. They never played through the centre since Pogba left. They have no one who is capable of carrying the ball through midfield. And none of their midfielders play between the lines. You can't be a possession based team if you are unable to play between the lines. Having a midfeilder who can exlploit spaces through the middle is crucial. Otherwise you are a one trick pony. Funnel everything out wide. That's all UTD do all the time

Most depressing is I just can't see a silver lining with this defeat. I'm not buying the entire 'we'll be playing less football so we can get more work done in training' line; we needed that Champions League money and our players needed a boost in confidence after what has been a diabolical season.

Relegation is probably out of the equation until the foreseeable future but genuinely worried as to what lie ahead for us nonetheless.

That’s exactly how I feel as well.

Big clear out. A few signings.

Play the best XI week in week out in the league next season.

Signing young, athletic, talented players for low costs and experienced free agents is the only way this club can move forward.
Can we even justify/afford Cunha now?

feck being a possession focused team anyway, that's not what I want this club to become. We need to be able to controlling games yes but feck keeping the ball with the back line, feck 70% possession with limited chances, feck pushing away directness and creativity in favor of cautious and control. That's not what this club is about.

These two points are a contradiction of one another in some ways. You don't acquire these young quality players without European football to boot. Especially in a year that will have strong international consequences for squad selection.

You do though. Sides like Newcastle, Forest, Brighton and Bournemouth have all done it.

We’re not building a side to win the league this summer. We are building a squad that can get us from 16 or 17th to 6th or 7th. We should be targeting players who can help us to do that, but who also have the potential to reach a higher level in the following years.

We should be looking to cut the egos and huge wages. We need a humble and hungry squad who are all bought into improving as players and a football team.

Once we’ve got back to that level and have a team with some momentum behind it, we can look at adding the top level quality to compete then.

I’ve been saying this for a while, the Glazers will be forced to sell soon. The club is in a death spiral financially and they need to cash out whilst the brand has some cachet, if they wait another 5 years we’ll be villa or Everton, just another average epl club.

Won’t change a thing.

Why won't it change a thing? We seem to be the only club where sacking the manager apparently "won't change a thing". Its not a binary option between sacking a manager and getting rid of players. You can have both a poor squad and a poor manager. You maintain standards for both and get rid when they don't meet them. Amorim has fallen way below even the low standards of fans who are okay with us finishing this low, so get rid and move on.

Thin the squad for a smaller fixture list and hope the players we do sign actually add some much needed quality.

It feels like we are going to remain in the wilderness for as long as Liverpool did and the owners probably don't care. How much longer can we rely on the glory days/name to bring in the money?

If the relegated teams weren't so bad, we could have truly hit rock bottom this season, if that's not a wake up call to the powers that be, I don't know what is. Would be great if the Glazers decide to fully sell, but I cant see it

The sad thing is, it's not like we haven't spent in most transfer markets, it's just well and truly mostly been wasted, and now we have financial issues to add to the complications

What annoyed me tonight as well, was the lack of urgency and care from most of the players tonight. Strolling around as if we were the team in the lead. No one stood up to take leadership and drag us through. Unfortunately the majority probably don't care, as they will still pick up their massive wages regardless.

I don't even know where the club is going from here. There are so many issues at this club, and they get worse by the day. Sir Jim and the Glazers have run this club dry, slashing funds, sacking loyal staff, and leaving us in chaos. The manager got it wrong tonight, playing right into Tottenham's hands and not making the subs early enough. We need passion, vision, and change NOW. A big summer clearout is needed, and that probably includes offloading Bruno to get the much-needed funding. Personally I am not ambitious for the summer I can't see the club clearing out the squad.

We're a mid table team.
The club is broken and needs a massive rebuild.
Maybe better that we didn't win too be honest.
We would've got embarrassed in Europe next season.

Amorim has taken us backwards, but I'd keep him. Based on what? Feck all really, other than I'm sick to the back teeth of 90% of these players, sacking managers and patching things up with halfway house rebuilds.

Let him do as close to what he did in his first summer at Sporting as possible. They shipped out 25 players and completely rebuilt the squad with smart signings and youth players. If we keep this lot around we'll be shite next season, if we turn it over we might still be shite, but we might not, and we might actually get better and better for seasons to come.

Ragnick called it when he said we needed heart surgery. Well we need a fecking heart transplant now, along with a new set of limbs a lung and a set of balls. I'd keep Yoro, Bruno, Amad and Dorgu - anyone else I'd listen to offers and gut this walking dead monstrosity we've assembled.

Nagelsmann won't touch us. This ship has sailed
He was my choice before Amorim, but I think he already had the NT gig and wanted to see it through to the WC.
If anyone replaces Amorim I’d rather it be Enrique… a very good 4-3-3 he plays. Trouble is now though if we’re backing Amorim to sign players for a back 3 then we’d have to target another manager that plays a back 3.
Hence i like Nagelsmann - someone can please correct me if i'm mistaken, but he's highly adaptable and has used both 3-4-3 and 4-3-3 at Bayern and Leipzig. I think his preferred formation is 4-3-3 though. Not that I would turn my nose up at Enrique but it really would depend how 'far' we go in backing Amorim with 'specialist' players.
Either him or Inzaghi.
Yeah, not going to turn my nose up at anyone else if Amorim doesn't work out.

All this being said, i really, really hope Amorim can turn it around but its not looking good by any metric, at this point.

What now?
Now it is time for the board to back our manager and not going for semi amateur players in the dutch league. Give him a strike, winger and a fecking GK who’s not a fecking clown.
Three decent signings would do wonder for this club. No europe next season so we ahould be able to release or sell most of the players ETH brought in and bring in players who actually know what they are supposed to do on the pitch.
Amorim decided to play his football from the start, he knows who can do it and who can’t. Sacking him would be more stupid than renewing ETH contract last summer.

At least we won't be paying Casemiro to the tune of £375k a week now. Same for a lot of these charlatans.

I think this was the final nail in the coffin and the start of ManUnited turning into a long term mid table team. No CL/EL till 2029

He needs to go. Same with Mason Mount. Don't offer Maguire or Shaw new contracts either. And Saudi comes with 100 mill offer for Bruno you take it

Casemiro one of the few players I come out of this season with any respect for. I don’t care if his legs are gone, he’s got more quality than most of our other players and is the sort of personality I’d want around the place, even if he’s not first choice.
