If you took a vote amongst anyone but mancs, Benitez's comments would be applauded. It was a calculated attack on SAF. Very refreshing indeed.
I'd put money on you being wrong on the first part. No one I know will "applaud" it, as most have little or no time for Benitez. It'll be laughed at if anything. Came up in a conversation I had earlier (briefly, as no one who isn't a United or Liverpool fan actually cares) and the general consensus was that your manager's made an arse of himself, and is asking for something he can't handle.

Problem is that Benitez isn't exactly Mr Popular among neutrals himself. He's not articulate and likable like Wenger, or charismatic like Mourinho. He just comes across as an insufferable dullard, who manages a team nobody likes much. Fergie at least has the begrudging respect of most. If he came out with a similar rant he'd get a lot more stick, but that's only because he's less of no mark.

and again, still no one's managed to give a plausable reason as to why this will help Liverpool in any way?

Rafa's jedi-like mind-games will force the referees and FA to finally take a long, hard look at themselves. And they will not like what they see. Oh no. And then they will award lots of lovely penalties against us. And send off our players for being mean and rough and that.

Rafa 1 - 0 Everyone Else.

 Do you seriously believe that tripe?

It was a pointless, cringeworthy rant.

Let's see tomorrow if Chelsea get some questionable decisions and come away with something . I'll laugh my arse off.:smirk:
Aye, because one rant from Rafa counteracts 20 years of it from Sir Alex.

Righto.

It won't have anything to do with just the simple fact that questionable decisions happen all the time, like the penalty for them last season against us, it will be all down to Rafa.

Can't wait to laugh when your lot don't beat Stoke.

fecking priceless, you just couldn't make it up.

There is no spoon.
Hopefully we'll beat Chelsea tomorrow and SAF will then respond with some incredibly witty comment about the fat idiot. He really did set himself up for a big fall here!

Liverpool just made SAF's riposte for him. Clearly the pressure is getting to them.

Actually if you had heard anyone saying it was positive it is just the Scousers. Anyone neutral in this respect has said what a fool Benitez is and Ferguson must be laughing at him. Wenger is the king of calculated attacks on SAF, Benitez is a no-mark.

I did hear one, old big nose thompson

I'm actually worried....

I reckon there's a massive chance that Fergie could do himself a mischief he's laughing so hard right about now...

That is, arguably, much more embarrassing than the Keegan rant. At least Keegan could claim he was caught up in the moment, but Benitez has actually written a fecking essay... His players must feel the confidence radiating from him at the moment.

Rafa's set himself up here because they've not won and it'll be put down to the 'rant'. Ironically he's put pressure on himself and the players now to perform.

It's all made him look a bit of a fool and leaving out Keane and Torres was asking for trouble. Some things never change with his team selection.

We could do with another smilie, preferably mixing this :wenger: and this :houllier: ...pulling out a list.

Will the Rafa apologists be returning to this thread this evening to excuse the way his team dropped points while he was obsessing about United?

Like feck they will!

apparently Sir Alex Ferguson has killed 2 referees. Now i would normally defend SAF to the hilt but there is a limit. There would appear to be 2 dead referees to be accounted for. Rafa seems to have the evidence. its all written down. ok its only 2 referees for now but whos to say we are not dealing with a serial killer. maybe anybody with a whistle is in danger. arrest SAF now I say. make the streets safe again

Liverpool are all talk, says Fergie

Jonathan Northcroft

SIR ALEX FERGUSON has risked deepening his rift with Rafael Benitez by suggesting Liverpool’s challenge for the Premier League title is little more than talk. Ferguson said Chelsea, whom his team face today, remain Manchester United’s main rivals. “I’m of the opinion that it [the title race] usually goes down to two teams, in the last month anyway,” said Ferguson. His implication was that neither of those twin contenders would be the Anfield side.
Ferguson’s remarks are sure to further pique Benitez who, on Friday, launched a prolonged and premeditated verbal assault on the United boss, detailing a litany of complaints about Ferguson, the gist of which were that his rival had been allowed by the lawmamkers of English football to place himself above the rules.
In his latest comments, Ferguson downplays the seriousness of Liverpool’s bid for a first title in 19 years. “Liverpool have had a good start and it’s given them more confidence and there’s more expectation on them now. They’re talking about winning the league, the supporters are talking about winning it and the players are talking about [it] so that’s a change. But they’ve not been able to talk about it for at least a good few years,” he said. He still expects the title to come down to a scrap between United and Chelsea. “Chelsea have experience and have been our main rivals for the last five years.”

Two points dropped Rafa.

FACT!
Agreed. Now we have to pray that its a draw tomorrow.

As soon as I saw Rafa's team and then his lack of action at half time it was obvious there was ever one result. :(

Beat Chelsea and you've pulled the full-house out from nowhere and Rafa's all-in has failed.

'In one move, The Gafa has lit a fire underneath us Reds to get us up for the fight in the coming months. We needed this as fans. Galvanise us and the players and staff of Liverpool Football Club, the most successful football club in England.'

'Having read through this thread and others like it on other forums, the effect it is having is nothing short of incredible, I am not sure even Rafa himself could have forseen this, but the vast majority of reds seem nothing short of totally galvanised by his comments, its like he has instilled huge amounts of confidence into everybody, and for the first time in many years, a huge amount of fans seem to be saying "bring it on". '

'The best possible thing that can happen now is that we sweep Stoke aside and Mr. Alex will feel pressured to talk about Rafa instead of concentrating on his own match.

Game on, Mr. Ferguson.
'

'As you say, this is Rafa talking from a position of strength, this is controlled, this is a signal that we are aiming to be angler fish when it comes to pressure...we want it, we will thrive on it, we will use it to lure in the smaller fish and feast on them.'

'...it's on...fecking bring it on...Rafa believes, the players believe, we believe, we are fecking BACK.'

...and the after the match:

'I want to kill the knobhead on SkyNews. That is all.'

'This is the part that makes me feel sick to the pit of my stomach'

'Man if man utd win tomorrow its deffo gonna bite raf on the arse this.'

'Rafa looks like a twat now, after last nights speech.'

'Premier League Champions?? Yeah feckin right'

'terrible performance, should refund the travelling kop's ticket prices and sell lucas, benayoun while they're at it...'
