Deal is done.
My understanding was that the transfer's sticking point was Zenit felt they were owed some portion of Arshavin's signing fee from his last contract with them, not money owed on this deal.
It's irrelevant because no-one invoked it - and no payments made relate to it - as clearly stated above.Trying reading what people put in bold next time.
I simply asked why the Webster clause is irrelevant in this transfer. Nothing to do with this alleged "loyalty payment" and the motivations behind it.
It's irrelevant because no-one invoked it - and no payments made relate to it - as clearly stated above.
It wasn't irrelevant to the transfer itself though, was it? He was in a period of his contract where the Webster clause could have been invoked.
Finally the deal is done and dusted. This whole saga was starting to bore me. Now lets see if he can live up to the hype.
It was irrelevant to the payment mullet was talking about - the bit in 'bold type' to which you said I needed to pay attention - the bit to which you referred when bringing the notion of the 'Webster clause' into the thread for the first time.
The latter has had no bearing on this transfer - the shenanigans were covered explicitly and the 'buy out' option had nothing whatsoever to do with it.
12m should be a steal.
Don't get ahead of yourself here, I mean I think he'll add to their attacking options but he's their record buy now, and he's still got it all to prove.
For hi to be a steal he'd have to be a really top player, and we've not seen enough of him to say that at all.
To be honest, know one really knows why the transfer was delayed and what arguments went on or what payments were made.
But if you like, I'll find out for you tomorrow.![]()
...and the chances of it having been legitimately delayed by the weather is what do you reckon?
Bugger all?
This one stinks!
Exactly, I'm talking about the current price for a internationally rated attacker at the moment, it's ridiculous.
Plus note the 'should', still has to prove himself in this league obviously.
In this current market £12m is a steal, doesn't matter whether he's gone to Arsenal or any other club. Face it, even Robbie Keane's been sold back to Spurs for a more expensive price than that.
Hasn't he been sold back for that price exactly?
Eduardo, Adebayor and Van Persie are steals, ridiculous to claim he's a steal before he's even proven himself yet.
I thought he was sold back for £15m? Either way in the current market, I don't think it's ridiculous at all. Bent went for £16m, Hargreaves went for £17m, Keane to Liverpool in the first place was £18m, Fellaini to Everton was £15m etc.. Now I'd regard Arshavin as a better player than all of them by a distance and his fee is less than all of theirs so imo that's more than a good deal and thus "steal" wouldn't be too bad a phrase to use. Now I understand that there's every chance he may not adapt to the premiership or may not perform for some reason or another but straight up if United/Chelsea/Barcelona/Madrid/Milan or any other team bought Arshavin for £12m then I have no doubt it would be seen as a "steal" either. Obviously we can't see into the future but from just judging the talent and fee yeah it is a steal imo.
EDIT: Add to the fact it's not like this guy is an "unknown" he was hyped to death at the Euros and it's not like he hasn't been heard of. To get £12m for a player with such a high status after the Euros is fecking great business imo.
Not like you to be petty....and the chances of it having been legitimately delayed by the weather is what do you reckon?

And you're basing this on seeing him play 10 or so games?
Absolutely, the guy's a class player head and shoulders over the kind of donkeys that have been bought and sold for up to £20M recently. Sure he may not settle, he may find the PL too physical etc etc - but those are the risks you're prepared to take for real class. How many games does it take to see a player with more technique and ability than the likes of Fellaini, Bent, Keane etc? He pretty much ripped up Madrid in the CL even though they lost and has been quality in other games. Now maybe he won't be the most consistent player but he's shown his ability and whether Wenger can get him to apply it in every game is the key but the talent sure is there. Now maybe he may not adapt to the league or whatever but even then I'd still stand by my statement that he's better than the likes I've mentioned above and I'm sure most teams would have him in their team ahead of the likes I've mentioned above too.
The steel bit is overegged - your pair of Carrick and Scholes aren't exactly hardmen. We could use someone who can run and tackle a bit in midfield though.
Sugar daddy Usmanov didn't put any dosh in, that's for sure. I reckon we might see him on Sunday (certainly off the bench). Arshavin said AW was the 'main man' - that's why he's here.

He had no qualms about moving to Spurs in the summer either. He just wanted to get out of Russia.Sugar daddy Usmanov didn't put any dosh in, that's for sure. I reckon we might see him on Sunday (certainly off the bench). Arshavin said AW was the 'main man' - that's why he's here.
... or miss the irony.Loads of statements from the parties concerned indicate that Arsenal cocked this up and that negotiations were still ongoing way after the deadline. That should mean the transfer was invalid.
That the authorities are letting Arsenal get away with this transfer almost defies belief (except it's a governing body of football involved.)
C'mon Jo, Flamini was the best DM in the PL last year if we'd managed to keep him and Hleb we'd probably be top of the fecking league. Gareth Barry is a stone plodder, Arsene would rather eat his own vomit than sign him for £18M.
