He is sublime, Sahin - can't praise him enough, to be honest. He's a cracking set-piece taker, has a sweet left foot.

If you can, try to catch him tonight - Bundesliga, Borussia Dortmund v Schalke, kick-off: 7:30PM.

It's strange that with all the transfer rumour bullshit that goes on Sahin is hardly ever linked with anyone except Liverpool and that is only low key. Every time I have seen him he has been pure class in the Pirlo mould.

thats one hell of a match. Ruhrgebiet derby !
The build-up to the match this time around is very intense - Dortmund are top of the league with 50 points (from a possible 60), a stunning 25 points ahead of Schalke. They beat their rivals 3-1 at their ground back in September and are hoping to do the double over them this year. They could do a ''perfect season'' - a double over their fiercest rivals and win the league for the first time in 9 years.

From what I've seen on YouTube, he can take a nice free-kick too. :nervous::drool:

Perhaps thats just what happens when a fantastically talented central midfielder is playing well. Ever Banega was only linked with Liverpool in the summer as well.

Nearly had an absolute pearler of an assist there, quick free kick from the halfway line inch-perfect onto the centre back (making his run forward to get up for the free kick) right on the penalty spot.

Long passing like that's always such a joy to watch, even more so if you've had a player like Scholes/Alonso/Pirlo who will play those balls over and over again and grow used to it.

I want him and Kagawa. That would be Scholes and Hargreaves replaced

I wish
How would Kagawa, a winger or attacking midfielder, replace Hargreaves? If we were going to sign anyone from Dortmund to replace Hargreaves it would be Bender would it not?

You don't get me. I didn't bother about order. Sahin is viewed as a holding player of the Pirlo mould and Kagawa an attacking midfielder. We will need next season a holding player and an attcking midfielder/playmaker. That is what I meant by them to replacing a Scholes and Hargreaves.

He's had a decent first half, Dortmund have been all over Shalke and would be 4 up if not for some top keeping from Neuer.

Kagawa's not remotely comparable to Scholes though, in role type, in style, anything.

And Sahin isn't a holding midfielder, he pushes forward a lot on and off the ball. Regardless, how is a holding player of a Pirlo mould in any way a replacement for Hargreaves?

Whatever way you look at it Hargreaves is not similar to either, and he'd still need replacing if they were bought.

I'm pretty sure we wouldn't need to replace Hargreaves. I mean it would be a struggle without him, and we would obviously have to get used to it as he has been such a mainstay in our first eleven, but I reckon we would cope...

And since when do we have to replace like for like anyway? I mean we replaced Keane with Carrick and Ronaldo with Valencia. Our midfield and it's personnel is constantly evolving and changing

Jesus, that was some awful pass by Sahin a minute before Farfan's chance. I'm not even sure what he was trying to do.

He is an attaccking midfielder who is also capable as play maker. Quit being pedantic.

It's not hard to understand is it? Hagreaves is a defensive midfielder/holding player. A holding player of any kind would be a a replacement for him. In your mind you seem think I'm taking like for like replacements. When I'm most certainly not.

I never ever said he was.

I don't think so. SAF rarely goes for like for like replacements for former players unless he is lucky to find one. He usually either goes for something different or something extra.

Kuba was the best Dortmund player today. Gotze, Sahin and the rest were a little dissappointing.

Sahin had a poor game. He is clearly talented, but his passing was wasteful on the day.

Götze looks special.

I just think it's a bizarre comparison - Sahin is very comparable to Scholes, Kagawa's very different.

You're talking about replacing a primarily attacking player, or one who's main aim is to keep possession, with a primarily defensive player, or one who's main aim is to win the ball back.

Hargreaves is someone who could play alongside any one of our midfielders, maybe Fletcher aside. Sahin is someone who could play alongside Carrick and Fletcher but not Scholes and Anderson. That to me doesn't suggest any sort of replacement but an independent signing.

It's like Arsenal replacing Fabregas with Fletcher. I know we don't often do like for like, very different to something like Carrick for Keane or Anderson for Scholes.

Sahin is like the current Scholes but with better defensive ability. Whilst Kagawa is like the Scholes of 1999. I'd be very surprised if SAF isn't aiming to 'Barcarize' our midfield. Making it more about possession keepers than grafters of the Hargreaves ilk.

One thing might be worth mentioning though. It seems that few Turkish players were successful in top European leagues apart from Bundesliga.

Off top of my head, the last one was Nihat for Real Socidad in 2002/03.

Magical Manchester United.
Sahin's a proper box-to-box midfielder, but he can play the role Scholes plays these days for us as well. I'd say get him in if we can, but I'd be even more excited about Goetze, what a season he has played for a 17/18 year old, looks incredibly mature in his decision-making and the ability is just plain to see to everyone. Best young prospect in the Bundesliga by a country mile!
