Yes, but it's very interesting too.

I've been reading this thread for the past 15 minutes, abolutely fascinated by this side of the Caf I've never encountered before, being a bog-standard, quick-post-here-and-there-whenever-the-mood-hits-me type of poster.

The evaluation of fellow posters, the self-evaluation, 'the ethos of the Caf'!
An entire meta-Caf subculture, a complex web of relationships and categories (enemies; allies; valuable contributors; the nondescript masses) I never knew existed, and which reminds me of Les Mandarins.

Now I'm going to close this thread and pretend I never read it, otherwise I'll never dare post again.
Its actually a pretty standard kindve thread. I enjoy them sometimes but large Brad discussions have taken place many times previously so it has become quite tiresome.

Why I am following it right now I really do not know. I think I need a better job

I am very well thanks! Just had a burrito for lunch from this brilliant place near Fleet street in central London. Amazing! How are you?
I'm pretty good thanks, enjoying being a father and a Brad apollogist it would seem :smirk:

Don't see much of a reason to have a bantering (discussion) back and forth about a single poster. I've posted regularly on here for a number of years now and while I recognize the name, I can't link the name to any one, life changing post he's made.

The fact is the mods (read police/government) made a decision to boot a citizen. If you're unhappy with it, leave the country.

There are a number of reasons Brad appears to be banned and getting personal with a specific poster is counter productive to all. And using vulgar language directly at a poster is unacceptable. I've been called any number of names and I wash it off, but I'm old enough to accept it and I also have quite a wonderful life outside of the Redcafe so I could care less.

HOWEVER, these forums are open enough that a young, innocent, United fan can be making posts and then get "cyber bullied" which is essentially what it became. We've all read enough articles lately about teens committing suicide over cyber bullying to not need it here.

We're all fans of United (and we even have closeted posters who pretend to prefer 'Pool or Spurs). Take the piss out of someone, but don't piss on them. Good on you mods for making a decision and sticking by it. There's really no discussion as this is a tribunal society, not democratic.

It isn't. But things change. The Caf now isn't the Caf of a year ago even.

And there has been a big change in the last year that has contributed to the general in particular changing and that is Google threatening to ban advertising on the site - it was clean the place up or have no money for servers and bandwidth.
Ok - well at least you acknowledge that things have changed a lot in the past year, Im sure I have seen various comments from Modmins/scouts/wannabes claiming that not much has changed and that it is just a figment of our imagination!

I didnt know about the Google thing so at least we can now understand the reason behind the recent moves to sanitise this place - I guess binning the louder more outspoken characters like Brad or Johnno is an extention of that sanitisation process.
It is a shame that has to be done as the more 'alternative' style of humour and the number of characters around here was probably what attracted a lot of people in the first place - but i can understand that servers etc have to be paid for so whatever King Google says goes I guess.

Anyway Ive said my bit and understood the other side of the coin from you lot - I still feel permabanning Brad from all forums was overly harsh, a last chance with access just to Football Forums seemed like a good compromise to me. So if ever there is a reconvening of the parole board to review the decision, then I hope it will be put forward !

You would have to ask GB if he was really insulted by what they did. It didn't really bother me apart from they didn't go directly at me.
Brad calling me a cnut never bothered me on a personal level at all.

Some of the abuse thrown at you and GB in the GIW made me very uncomfortable indeed and seriously lowered my opinion of many posters that I previously thought were good people.

I love librarians
I've always wanted Mods to tell us why a person was banned and also allowing us to question that decision. This thread clearly illustrates why I and many more were greatly mistaken about the questioning part.

As to Brad return - does any one really believe that he would behave - if they do then they must also believe in Father Christmas the tooth fairy and the lit of H C Anderson.

He was a good Footie poster, better than most but his antics elsewhere would not have afforded him the license the Caff glitterati gave him..... he would have been booted out very quickly on any other reputable forum

I've only dipped in & out of this and not read that many of the posts but I'm quite clear why he was banned & why he's not coming back.

Why has this thread gone on for 9 pages round & round in circles?
Because some people liked him and wanted to put forward the belief that he was worth having around. I think it's all remained fairly amicable.

Didnt mean that it was a direct new policy or anything, but I think there is a connection but more an indirect result of the new sanitisation process perhaps.
i.e. you have more stuff to do now having to monitor and delete stuff that Google dont like etc - so you dont have time to deal with the outspoken and therefore just easier for you to ban them.

Great job on nominating and awarding yourself that title RedNome as you took one paragraph linking Brad to cyber bullying (true by definition) and cyber bullying resulting in suicide (true) and the fact there are kids on these forums so watch your language when directing insults at people (true) and turned it into Brad driving teens to suicide. The absolute definition of a drama queen of the highest order. :houllier:

Calling people enough names that they go off and complain about it through repetition is called bullying. Just as continually taunting a kid in school is bullying.

I never once said anyone is committing suicide, I said:

-What Brad was doing, continually targeting and taunting a specific poster, is cyber bullying. Fact.

-That kids today are turning to suicide based on cyber bullying. Fact.

-That little kids can be on these forums. Fact.

-That kids take things far too seriously and being called a cnut enough times for no reason does cause damage. Fact.

So those combined make it so that mods need to ban those folks who are abusing the right to name call in a manner that doesn't create tension. The mods obviously gave Brad numerous chances and he blew through them. They ban him, fair enough.

As was said in the second post of this thread: "Ironic." You make one true paragraph that gets exploded into people calling "Drama queen" "people are committing suicide" etc. That's creating drama whereas I'm defending the Mods decision to ban people for continually targeting folks with vulgar opinions when we have no idea who the other person is behind the name. May it be a 35 year old stable man, an 80 year old woman, a teen, or some 12 year old just looking to talk about his favorite club.

Now I have no idea who this Wibble character is, I'm making a larger generalization about the going ons of internet forums these days where the medium age is dropping as more kids are joining in.

Grow up, read the papers, and learn respect. Making daft connections and dedicating posts to those connections make fools of the lot of you.

Whatever happens, there are always things you coul
Brad has asked me to post this for him. He's banned but these are his final words. Hopefully, modmins won't infract for posting one last parting shot on his behalf. These are his last words.

Hi folks

I’ve obviously recently found I’m banned from the Caf permanently, which disappoints me because I’ve enjoyed talking to fellow fans across the globe about United, it’s a nice balance with the other more tight knit forum of mostly match going folk I’m also on. I’m glad I’ll still be able to converse with a few of you on there, because despite the immense gayness of the internet, I’ve actually made some good friends off here.

Reading this thread, you’d thing I was some kind of savage, untimed, vicious vindictive cyber bully who went out of my way to abused moderators, and make everyone’s life a misery. I think that’s utterly ridiculous and completely removed from the truth. Thank you to those who’ve provided a little more balance, much appreciated. Obviously those who know me personally are completed miffed by the accusation.

My language is certainly a little livelier than it should be at times, I’ve admitted as much myself. But let’s be fair. Yes I’ve called one or two mods a cnut occasionally. No different to the language I’ve received back, GB you’re fond of calling me a cnut too. It’s not clever, but hell sometimes I swear at someone who is being patronising and condescending, questioning my parents ability to bring me up, treating me as if I’m beneath them. Then again, unlike alledged, I don’t hold grudges. I tried to discuss this privately with Wibble to put an end to the frostiness, which was going ok until he told me not to bother sending PM’s anymore because he wouldn’t read them. A request I’ve respected. My latest infraction for calling him a cnut is barmy, I was clearly joking with him (much like the ‘period’ comment I was also infracted for, again blatantly a joke taking deadly seriously for some reason and ‘punished’). I’ve not always got on with Marching, especially since I was banned for a few days for ridiculing Hillsborough, something that was absolutely fecking ludicrous; I’d never do and have never done that. It still appears on my infraction history. Regardless, I recently wished him well on his trip to the Monaco GP. Let’s not pretend this has been one way traffic, the way some of the mods have treated me at times has been at best unclassy. Others have treated me very well despite no doubt being a pain to them, and I appreciate that.

I’m not out to cause the mods grief, the vast majority will never have had a bad word said about them, many will have had very good words said, because as often as I’ve sometimes criticised things like bannings when it’s been less than obvious why it’s occurred, or friends have been canned and we haven’t been told. Others I’ve justified when asked, and I’ve also praised other aspects of the work they’ve done. This seems to be very quickly glossed over and forgotten for some reason. I’ve thought for some time ‘characters’ who make the site interesting are being binned off for little reason, and some overzealous moderating taking some of the fun out of the place, and yes I’ve made my opinion known, as I do on many other matters. I know it’s not always appreciated, but does it deserve to put me up there with the people who’ve been banned from this site for posting nude pictures, nasty racist remarks, etc? I don’t think so, but the decisions been made so that’s that. I think it could have been taken in the spirit intended a bit more often.

One thing I want to clear up – again. I never threatened FeedingSeagulls. I said his cards were marked. This was clearly in the context that one of my friends, quite unbeknown to me at the time, had laid into him for not paying me after I went out of my way to help him get a Euro away ticket. So as long as he posted on here, that might be something he just had to deal with. It was taken as a threat – and I was infracted, again – when it absolutely wasn’t the case. Having cleared this up since, I’m disappointed some of you are still claiming otherwise. I did call him a rat bastard that’s true, but then I doubt I’m getting sued for libel there.

I have one recommendation for the mods, if they’re willing to listen. I think more of you would do well to lead by example, and post the kind of quality in the football forum which will improve the site. I remember Marcos used to be reticent to post in there, because he felt he was shouted down. I remember defending him when Weaste was being a cock giving it all the OOT nonsense. Recently he’s posted far more, and the quality has been excellent, particularly the way he educated many condescending posters in the Maradona thread. Pogue is obviously a good example too, give or take the times he disappears up his own arse! Someone who has something to say, with thought behind it, and goes to the bother of fleshing it out to become a real debating point, creating interest, even if you don’t agree with his opinion. More of that, and less treating posters like they’re irritations who need to be micro managed and ‘punished’ all the time, and I think the place would be better for it.

My greatest punishment is that I will spend some of next season sat next to Noodle at OT; surely a fate that none of us deserve, despite our greatest ills. It will end up costing me a fortune, because as I’ve learnt, he never pays for his own grub. Or indeed anything. And my prospect of suffering gross burns has increased tenfold. Bad times.

Bye all
