The ones chosing Herrera, he said there were no fresh injuries but Carrick was fit. Are you sure Herrera is?
He said in the press-conference before game with Wolfsburg that Carrick is definetly out but he still need to decide if Valencia and Herrera will be ok.
Based on that Valencia was playing Herrera should be ok too.

    4. Nobody seemed to notice that I still want Mata on the field, where he should've been playing all along for us, in the hole. He has been a creative and dangerous player for us so far, everyone is right about that, but haven't any of you noticed that he seems to do the most damage when he drifts to the middle anyway? I'd like someone to explain to me the benefit of Mata playing out wide rather than playing in a central attacking position? His crosses haven't been all that great from out wide and he certainly can't beat a man down the line...with Darmian (or whichever player is at RB) likely having his hands tied with Alexis I'd like to see a player that can use the touchline going forward to keep the game open.
Benefit of playing mata wide- he will find more space in the flanks to pick out passes and play the through balls. In the middle he will be up against Defensive midfielders who will affect his passing by not giving him space. He also throws by coming into the box during crosses and score important goals like the goals against Sunderland and Southampton. Out wide he has also been playing really well for us over two seasons. He was also often playing as a wide forward at Chelsea and Valencia.
most of your points make no sense at all. It's as if you haven't watched any of our games this season.

It's a big game, and Ashley is fantastic defensively. I wouldn't trust Pereira in such a big game just yet.

Absolutely tortured Bellerin last season too. Young is the perfect man for this game. And contrary to popular belief, this won't hinder Memphis' development.
But Memphis and Martial running at Mertesecker(sp) sounds like so much fun.

Bellerin is a worry for the same reason, pending our choice for LB.

On paper, it does. It won't be much fun on the pitch though, Memphis will keep bumping into him.

Young destroyed Bellerin last season, and he will also offer cover to whoever is playing at LB.

It's a no-brainer for me. I like Memphis, and I want him to develop, but I care more about winning.

-Going on the last point, we want Mata on the field but not out wide, rather see the much stronger, much faster Valencia get a chance to cause some problems out wide.
The last time Valencia caused problems out wide was 2011. It doesn't matter how much stronger or faster he is than anyone if he can't cross.

Why would you expect us to play without Blind and hope to play without schweinsteiger? Both are pretty much automatic starters.
Schweinsteiger has to rest some time, and there are no easy games for him to do so coming up. Despite coming off, I expect he's knackered after the Wolfsburg game, he ran his legs off all match long and isn't young any more. Carrick has repeatedly had his best games against Arsenal, he knows how to play Wenger's sides, this would be an opportune moment to use that experience. Then Bastian can come back in for Everton, City etc.

As for Blind, I just have the uncomfortable feeling that Van Gaal has been waiting for an opportunity to start Jones, and will see Blind's mistakes against Wolfsburg as an excuse to do it now. Which would be a mistake in my opinion, because Blind has otherwise been excellent and is important to the way we play. If you're right and he's still an automatic starter I'll be very pleased.

    De Gea
    Darmian--Smalling--Blind--Young
    Schweinsteiger--Carrick
    Mata--Rooney--Memphis
    Martial

subs: Romero, Jones, Valencia, Schneiderlin, Fellaini, Herrera, Pereira

I want Schneiderlin to start but BS has to start and Carrick will be fresh.
Start Darmian at RB because Sanchez will be playing on that side. I hope we play on the counter in this and the pace of Memphis + Martial should unsettle them. Memphis has done some good things but some poor things in recent games but I would still start him. He makes great runs which I think can catch Arsenal out on Sunday.

I can appreciate what blind has contributed and realise that he can add a lot to our game when teams sit back against us but I don't think arsenal will be doing that against us at home so I fancy Jones chances of dealing with the likes of Sanchez and Walcott more so than blind for this one.

I think we'll remain more or less the same as we were against Wolfsburg, with Young in for Valencia. He could potentially start Basti and Carrick together, but it'd all depend on Carrick's 'match rhythm'. We'd need one of the two coming on in the 60th minute to settle things down too. We were a bit at sea from that point until the 80th minute or so against Wolfsburg.

We'll have no composure at the back and our passing game will fall apart, which is exactly what Arsenal want. We're finally playing a club against which our possession-dominating football is a huge weapon, because they simply aren't capable of sitting back and just absorbing pressure the way lots of sides do against us now. Let's not waste that by making this the moment where we drop one of the players who makes that style possible.

We had some excellent games with Smalling and Jones together at the back last season lest we forget. I just think blind has looked a bit ropey the past few games especially against quick powerful players I just have a hunch that Sanchez could absolutely destroy him after watching what Pelle and Mane done to him.

I'm 51/49 on this one slightly leaning to Jones side but I have faith in LVG to make the right choice and wont be moaning either way. I'm also fairly confident we have this in the bag but it may well be a very nervy game for us.

They're already putting pressure on the referee, it seems. Truly pathetic; they've been allowed to bleat on about Mike Dean, including their manager, and now they're going on the offensive about the ref before a ball's even been kicked.

    Three-man midfield please. Please? Please?!

Arsenal have got legs, that much can be said. A two-man midfield would lead to a very tense, eyes-through-the-fingers type game for us.

saw Arsenal were already working the ref.

I'm certain he will give crazy calls for the gooners. We will be playing 12 men.

So we need to be aggressive, fast and keep the ball.
No chance. This referee gave away 2 penalties (both wrong, IIRC) and a red card in the opening game against Villa a couple of years ago.. And denied us a clear last minute penalty in a draw with Sunderland a few years ago.

Weird how people are trying to portray us as moany simply because Mourinho said that. I would argue that we were well within our rights to moan about Dean given that he virtually decided the contest in the wrong direction. Surely that merits discussion?

We portray Arsenal (fans and manager and often players) moany not because of what Mourinho said but because of years of experience.

On topic: some people in this thread are suggesting we should play Young at full-back... that seems an insane idea to me. I know he can do a job there in some games but Arsenal away is not one of those in my opinion.

I will never understand the fascination for Mata to play #10 role. He not that quick, he can't hold the ball up and turn. That area of the pitch tend to have 2 opponent players there, do you guys think Mata can beat them and create a chance?

If he's playing wide, he has a chance to be free or isolate the defender and he will be up against one defender most of the time, he also have freedom to come to the middle where the opponent will not be certain either to go for him or stay with the #10 player. Let it go guys, Mata is playing is his best and most effective position.

We're going to win this comfortably.

Arsenal are soft, they always have been under Wenger. They're succebtable at being rash when they're bullied. Also, I don't know if anyone's watched any of their recent games? They're shockingly bad at the back. I know that means nothing when United come to town but if they defend like they have done recently we'll be out of sight by half time.

Arsenal players have had one extra day of rest. Our players seemed exhausted at the end of the Wolfsburg game. A very tough away outing. Would be lucky to get a draw. Sanchez is back in his scoring form, Giroud is in a good form and Walcott has found his bearings in the striker role.

Very, very tough fixture given the timing. I just hope the International break after this game doesn't result in injuries.

Apparently, not the stuff that makes everyone believe that whatever LVG does is automatically right, like the rest of you.
Sure mate, we're top of the league but let's change everything. Clearly it's not working.

God I hope we literally stuff them. I would love a good 6-0 thrashing of em. Imagine. All this talk about Arsenal having a shout at the title, and all their fans being super cocky. We quietly bounce in and demolish them and leave.

Nothing's quiet when United show up to Emirates brother. I expect us to win but should be a belter of a match. The game is won in the middle of the park for me.. And hopefully Martial can do something special

The fact that @Todd thought Blind was responsible for Wolfburg's goal showed his opinion on football is very limited. Morgan got dribbled easily and Valencia fell asleep during offside trap.
