I had a look on there too. Nice to see the respect for Jose. That forum is a bit dead though isn't it? Is that the main Chelsea forum?
I think so. Maybe they have a busy one on reddit. The traffic on Shedend is very low.

At last we have my favourite kick-off, early evening on Saturday or Sunday.

I realised this week how little I've watched Chelsea under Conte, so I'm struggling to make a mental image of how good they are.

I expect a cautious United though, reluctant to get caught out of position. Won't be surprised to see a right-side whose job mainly will be to close Hazard out of the game, much like our wide play against Liverpool.

Besides that, I have a hope that we're able to establish more of an attack.

My stab at the lineup is:
    DDG
    Valencia - Smalling - Bailly - Blind
    Fella - Herrera - Pogba
    Lingard - Ibra - Martial

I hope Mourinho surprise me and play Mata though

Costa is going to be a man possessed and may try to target Bailly. Important not to get drawn in.

Bailly doesn't seem particularly prone to loss of temper or cards or anything like that. Costa tends to target players with disciplinary 'reputations', then riles them up and looks for chances to con the ref into carding them. Fellaini is the obvious target in our squad. If his arms so much as leave his sides, Costa will be clutching his eye claiming an 'elbow in the face'.

Hopefully we'll just play Carrick instead.

I think Chelsea are starting to look good now, Conte is starting to get things to click. Think it is a less than ideal time to face them, especially at their place.
They've played hull and Leicester in their last 2 games. Hard to tell right now with them.

Good to see Tottenham, and especially Arsenal drop points from what should have been bankers.

Can we capitalise on it with a win though, or will we just match them at best? Really need a win here, to haul Liverpool back in a bit.

Win tomorrow, and we're going well again,

Word is that Rooney isn't even in the squad tomorrow.
These are the confirmed ones on MEN (http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.../manchester-united-team-news-chelsea-12064091):

    Confirmed United squad members:

    Goalkeepers: De Gea, Romero, Johnstone
Defenders:: Darmian, Valencia, Smalling, Bailly, Blind, Rojo, Shaw
Midfielders: Herrera, Carrick, Schneiderlin, Fellaini, Pogba, Lingard, Mata, Young
    Forwards: Rashford, Ibrahimovic, Martial

Good chance the team will be the same as against Liverpool.

I think the three dropped will be Johnstone, Darmian and Schneiderlin

Please can we come out and try and win this game. We have enough to beat Chelsea and we need to start picking up points.

You presume he has a knock or is ill. Cannot imagine he has been dropped completely.
He's played what, 110 minutes this week? That's a lot for someone whose body is packing up. Wouldn't be surprised if he's got nothing left and was left out for his own good.

If we win this, it's been a great week's football. Three tough games, two wins and a draw. Points gained on a number of rivals.

Depends if Jose will spin it like that though or will say illness or knock. Might not look good saying your captain is knackered.

If is a huge word. I'm trying to remember the last time we won at Stamford Bridge in the league, did we in that mad Van Persie season? Perhaps.
But generally we don't win there.

United have 3 matches in seven days. There has to be squad rotation yet need to select the best players to get a result. And from JM's point of view, he has to monitor the physiological side to his players. United cannot lose tomorrow and must have enough emotional and mental capacity to be ready for City midweek. Then comes Burnley who are no pushovers and present a totally different approach from Liverpool, Chelsea and City.

True. But looking at this game in particular, it's achievable. On paper Anfield was a much tougher test, and we're coming into this game with the momentum from the Fenerbahce win, as opposed to a draw with Stoke and an international break.

    So no Miky again then.

Maybe a bench role v City, and same again or start v Burnley?

Mourinho, one of the most risk averse manager ever, is going to go defensive again, isolate Zlatan, and hope for a draw or 1-0 win. Conte is too tactically savvy and will neutralize the parked bus. Ultimately we'll either lose or scrape a draw. But if we want to win here's what we should do:

    DDG
    Valencia Smalling Bailly Shaw
    Herrera Pogba
    Lingard Mata Martial
    Rashford

Bring Mkh off the bench for Martial at 70 mins to get him some match sharpness. Bring Zlatan & Carrick on if we go down a goal and Chelsea start playing more defensive.

3 points would be massive for our league position, however I'd take a point now. Hoping to see a positive performance with us putting them under pressure.

I have to laugh at the "Chelsea players will be up for it because they want to beat their former manager" narrative. Completely ignores the fact that Mourinho wants to win too and i'm sure the team will be up for it as well to get him that win on the pitch of his former club.

Especially as he will feel some of them let him down and cost him his job in the end. I know there were other issues, but some of them did not put in the necessary effort.

Or the fact that most top-level footballers are 'up for it' most weeks - hence them being top-level footballers.

I think the way we were set up last week we was fine. What we lacked; however, was the quality in the final third. Rashford and Young did a terrific job in tracking back, but offered very little going forward, which I guess is expected when you have to defend so much.

It is likely that Mourinho will go with the same wing pairing, especially knowing that Chelsea are likely to play with wing backs. I just think that, if we're going to set up like we did against Liverpool, i.e. sit back, narrow, hit on counter, then we need to be more ruthless in the final third. We need to finish any chances we get. If we score first, I think we'll win the game.

Can't afford to lose tomorrow. Could find ourselves 6 points behind Arsenal and Liverpool and 8 behind City if they beat Southampton, which I expect them to bounce back. In fact, a draw is not really a positive result as that would mean we have only taken 3 points from the past 3 games but considering our record to Chelsea is so bad, haven't won in the last 10 games against them, I'll take a draw now. A win would be amazing though. Poetic justice for Mourinho too.

If anything Jose will have the edge. He knows every detail of that team inside out.

Would definitely take a draw. On a good run of games at the moment, coming through this set of fixtures without a loss would be massive in terms of confidence.

Wanted Chelsea to smack the master tactician's arse tomorrow but looking at the larger picture a draw would be more damaging. Would leave Utd 5 points behind us with lots of games coming up every 3/4 days. And Chelsea 3 points behind. I'd still 'punch the air' (tm) if Eva, er I mean Chelsea, did win though.

Didnt JM say in his interview yesterday it would be a bad idea to do that considering he has had 3 matches in a week?

Didn't see the interview, but from the team that played Liverpool:

De Gea - played but he's a goalie
    Valencia - rested in midweek
Bailly - played midweek, but Mourinho is all about a steady partnership at CB
Smalling - only played 45' midweek
    Blind - rested in midweek
    Herrera - rested in midweek
    Fellaini - rested in midweek
    Rashford - rested in midweek
Pogba - record signing, subbed in midweek
    Young - rested in midweek
    Ibrahimovic - rested in miweek

Most of them were rested in midweek so will be fine for this.
