Lukaku - whilst exceptionally physical - has had a very poor start to the season. I'm a little worried, but people are going a bit over the top with him against McNair. I'd actually say that Valencia may prove to have been more of a threat for McNair, especially considering recent form.
He plays more the right side doesn't he ? He's a very clumsy player on the ball and borderline terrible at times.

Friday night 8pm, they send through a text saying there's engineering works on the metro lines.

That's a little inconvenient on a match day! The goons!

Yeah I agree. Hopefully we catch that Lukaku this weekend.

    De Gea
    Rafael - McNair - Rojo - Shaw
Valencia - Blind - Di Maria
    Mata
    van Persie (c) - Falcao

Sub: Lindegaard, Blackett, Thorpe, Fletcher, Pereira, Januzaj, Wilson
I think it's safe to say that's gonna be the team on Sunday. Even though I would love to see Pereira instead of Valencia (as I think Pereira can play Herreras role better than Valencia) I think it's to big of a risk to play him with McNair in the backline. But if it's any manager out there who would have the balls to do that it's van Gaal.

I think it's gonna be a real good game with a lot of attacking from both sides, and I think Falcao gonna score the winner. 3-2. Falcao x2 and Mata and Naismith with the goals.

Pereira's place on the bench will probably be taken up by Afroman

I really hope Fletcher doesn't start this, the guy just can't play anymore.

Blind coming in will severely limit his opportunities this season, especially with so few games.

It remains to be seen what Van Gaal has in store when we play the top teams, especially away. Surely he won't risk having 2 strikers AND Rooney/Mata

Great news, Mcnair and Mata to be in the starting lineup, but I do hope fletcher won't be in it aswell, I think RVP will get the captain's armband for these few upcoming matches. Who else is available if he won't pick fletcher? fellaini? maybe carrick?

    Blackett's suspended isn't he?
Apparently not. I had thought so, but everything, including Van Gaal's interview and newspaper articles suggest otherwise. It was just a one game ban according to papers.

You are spot on except for Pereira. I'm pretty confident that van Gaal will play Fletcher instead, unfortunately.

thats wonderful news blackett is an amazing talent one of the best young british defenders by far he'll be a top player no question, the cards just rolling his way with rio-vida moving out and him coming in lucky for him...

Seems Van Gaal doesn't like two centre backs who are left footed.

As you'd think Blackett would be ahead of McNair otherwise.

After his meltdown in the Leicester game, Blackett could do with some time out of the sun methinks.

Nailed on for this. Fletcher has positional sense, defensively solid. Negatives are his pace to track back, keep high pressure one touch play. But, he can very well make sure people don't run past our midfield. Valencia is just so one-footed, will hug the touchline, and will isolate Blind on his own. Playing a young player like Pereira is taking a huge risk, especially with a dodgy backline, and a physically weak midfield. Januzaj might be a better option than pereira. Is pearson any where near the first team?

ANyways, a big test for van Gaal. He has the right kind of firepower upfront to win this match. We are defensively weak, but he has enough to hold a team like Everton at bay. This match will determine how good we can be this season. Winning this will be a huge boost and a surge in table.

Remember the days when this game was a guaranteed 3 points? :(

Anyway my final team for tomorrow would be this

    -------------------------------De Gea------------------------------
    -----Rafael------------McNair---------Rojo----------Shaw-------
    ---------------------------------Blind------------------------------
    ----------------------Valencia------------Di Maria-----------------
    ----------------------------------Mata------------------------------
    -------------------------Falcao--------------------------------------
    ----------------------------------------Van Persie(c)---------------

Falcao needs a massive game, hopefully he scores a brace!
RVP needs to continue his form and get back to his best
Blind needs to stop silly mistakes and protect the back 4, need a solid performance from him
Rafael and Shaw are going to be key in our attacks
Hopefully Mata isn't too lightweight for this game, need him unlocking that defence with Di Maria

Rather not predict the score tbh, but if we win this game, we have a massive chance of moving up to 4th place before the international break. What a great psychological effect that would have!!

    Sorry 4 spelling mistakes ..

I know the match is at OldTrafford but Moyes made it theatre of nightmares to United fans .. with our attacking quality i would rather to strengthen the defense .. with Mata, ADM, RvP, and Falcao it became very easy to score, so i would go for
    4-2-3-1

    De Gea
    Rafa ..... McNair ..... Rojo ...... Shaw

    .........Fellaini/Fletcher ... Blind

    Valencia .... Mata ...... ADM

    ...............RvP/Falcao

    my lineup prediction:

    --------------McNair----Rojo----Blackett-------
    -------Rafael---------------------------------Shaw
    -------------------Fletcher------Di Maria---------
    ---------------------------Mata-------------------
    -------------------Falcao----------RvP--------

Blind and Di Maria 2 left footers, so i think Fletcher will play for the balance. Maybe Blind will play for Blackett? I just have a feeling it will be a back 3, hope not.

    Feck it. Going all out.

    De Dea
    Rafael-Mcnair-Blackett-Shaw
    Blind
    Pereira Di Maria
    Januzaj
    Wilson Falcao

Wouldn't that be the greatest subjective lineup ever.

Naismith and Osman to score...2-0 to them.

Purely because, you just know they'll score after the grief we gave them on the forum, last year, when we thought Moyes was gonna sign them

Might be a really tough game if we play our usual narrow diamond and Baines and Coleman are able to get forward unmarked.

This is the kind of game where you wish one of our 4 central attackers (Rooney is out obviously) were still productive if played out wide, since we could play one of Falcao, Mata and RVP out wide.

I sort of think Valencia will play instead of Fletcher in Herrera's spot to provide a bit more width than Fletcher would, but it may be a matter of how they're doing in training more than the tactical reason.

If we look 2nd best, Van Gaal should be ready to take off one o Van Persie or Falcao and bring on Januzaj and just play 4-2-3-1 or even 4-4-2 with Mata tucked in a bit on the right.

    But yeah, personally I'd go:

    --------Falcao/RVP-------
    DiMaria---Mata--Januzaj
    ------Blind---Fletcher----
    Shaw-----------------Rafael
    ------Rojo----McNair----

to start, make sure we're solid and let those dribblers get at Coleman and Baines, who are better going forward than defending. Then you have a fresh striker to bring on in the 2nd half and can change what needs be.

God do we need another central midfielder. Herrera out and everything's a bit of a mess.

I think most likely Valencia will play instead of Herrera.

If Fletcher plays we have to go 4-3-3 as he doesn't have legs otherwise for that role.

This will be a tough one to call surely. Our attack is very promising but our back four are anything but stable. likely we're playing an Everton side hit by the same sort of injury crisis that is affecting our team, otherwise, with our defense looking as shaky as it comes, I'dn't fancy us to win this match, not if going by our recent form which hasn't been good enough. Collectively we are very poor defensively unlike everton who collectively are very strong which is very much the factor in football.

    I've gone for,

    DDG

    Rafael
    McNair
    Rojo
    Shaw

    Januzaj
    Blind
    Di Maria
    Mata

    Falcao
    RVP

Subs Fletcher (but I couldn't decide between him and Januzaj to start) Thorpe and Valencia (could also start). Going for a nervy 3 2 win.

I see people don't want Fletcher to start but I reckon it's inevitable with both Herrera and Carrick out. We have a huge lack of depth when it comes to midfield, two injuries should not be forcing us to play Fletcher.

Van Gaal didn't want to name his captain in the press conference even though he had already told the team.

Why not? If it is RVP, then why wait?

The answer has to be that he didn't want to reveal that Fletcher was playing in this match.

You're probably right. My hope is that van Gaal shows the same stubbornness for selecting by position he's shown at CB.

For me, Fletcher is cover for Blind, he can't hope to emulate the role that Herrera plays. I'd rather see Januzaj there, for one, as he has the creativity, if not the tackle of Herrera, though he's perhaps more direct.

I picked Pereira as he's the best player we have in the mold of Herrera, but my intuition thinks Fletcher. I just don't like listening to that pushy bastard.

Agreed, that's the most likely conclusion. But perhaps he didn't want to reveal Fletcher isn't playing, either.

I'd say this game is the biggest 'must win' for ages. A good win will be massive for confidence going into the international break.
If things go our way we might even be in the top 4 by tomorrow.

Are there any actual signs that Pereira might be starting or are these just hopeful line up predictions?

Can't see past a Blind, Fletcher, Di Maria midfield 3 myself.

    .
Must admit this is a concern of mine. It's an area we look fragile in and they have decent quality out wide. I've not seen any answers from LvG yet as to how to face a team attacking with width.
If our fullbacks end up being pushed back we'll look bereft of ideas up front.

Part of me is enjoying not knowing how matches are going to go these days.
