Massive game. Not for the season in terms of points but as a metric of where we are and how we have progressed. Found Guardiola's comments disrespectful too - crazy tactics? Hopefully whatever he has planned backfires spectacularly and we beat them on Saturday. Whatever we do we need to have a plan for Haaland. Still have PTSD from his hattrick in the last game. I think it will be close but fancy us to get a 2-1 win.
I agree, the first game was when we were really poor an dsome big players like Csemeiro missing. We have been on a really good run obviously, but we have rode our luck at times such as Arsenal who battered us most of the game, played a ouple of out of form bigger sides (which CIty are now)....but we havent really played a big team for quite a while.

I like what Ten Hag has said and done so far, but I kind of agree with Keane when he said he wasnt overly excited with what has happened so far. The progress seems to me to be in attitude and a couple of the signings individually as well as players who have been woeful for a long time like Rashford finding form. But I still think the top four is a big achievement and still not overly confident we finish there, still think we are 3/4 signings away from a quality side personally, so be good to see where we are at against CIty as there are still moments I think a good team really punishes us

I don’t think anybody should read anything into
tonight’s result. What we can say is that we are not the same side that lost 6-3. Rashford is in the form of his life, Varane is showing Madrid form, Casimero didn’t play against City. We can absolutely compete but it Ruby be easy. I’d take 1-0 right now.

They did in their arse batter us most of the game.

    They were really poor tonight.

Cancelo is out of form, Grealish hugging the line is useless and Foden was lost.
    So was Gundogan.

Don't know if we could hope for another poor performance like that.

Didn't think we had a lot of chance but after tonight.... they're here for the taking.

And we'll presumably play two centre midfielders in midfield this time around

    ------------------de Gea
    Dalot----Varane---Martinez---Shaw
    ---------Casemiro-------Fred
    Antony--------Bruno------Rashford
    ------------------Martial
Looks about right. Think we'll need Fred for this one.

The cup game against Chelsea aside, they've mostly been fairly average since the World Cup. No reason we can't take them.

We have had this knack of allowing out of form teams to beat the shit out of us. Wouldn't surprise me to see a totally different city side this weekend.

I wouldn’t put too much faith in what we saw tonight. No Bernardo, Rodri, KdB, Haaland or Mahrez in the starting lineup who will all start against us.

And they’ll raise their game against us for sure. Having said that they have been pretty poor recently.

We need that high-tempo first-half against Liverpool type performance and really go at them.

We must of made progress this season. Gundogan said it’s probably the strongest united side yet and we’re playing good football.

A bit like we did under ole when we took the game to them at the etihad and went 2-0 up early. If you go at city full pelt and Peg them back they struggle.

Its not a shit post. Don't mistake my lack of words prior as anything outside of me not wanting to waste characters on your mental gymnastics.

Pep didn't bother prepping for Ole because it was evident that there was no established sustainable system. His wins were broadly smash and grab for the most part and he didn't actually have Peps number on balance going into the game.

This idea that Pep is arrogant to do that is utter nonsense, especially considering that "risk" not to prep his side yielded a strong result.
Shit post by an angry poster

Mad that if (and it’s a big if) we win our next two games we’ll be above them and in 2nd place

Yes we could well feel a backlash on Saturday but happy their defeat has opened door to a potential final at least

Have a feeling that Pep is considering playing Walker at CB, to counter Rashfords speed on the break. That’s the way we have hit them before and he’ll want to counter that. Thought if it when he said he had a crazy idea.

I wouldn’t mind seeing two holding midfielders at the weekend, like Casemeiro and McTominay so we don’t get overran in the middle of the pitch and put them under more pressure. Of course that will impact us going forward.

Just hoping we can compete and not get embarrassed as we did the first time out this season.

I suspect he might play 3 at the back with Walker as the RCB

I remember having a positive gut feeling going into the earlier game at the Etihad, and we ended up conceding 6. I promised myself not to be optimistic going into these big games again...

However, I feel this one's all set up for us to do them. We couldn't realistically have any more momentum going into this game, we're on a long winning streak, barely conceding any goals, mostly fit squad, extra day's rest from the midweek games, most of the first 11 rested. City aren't carrying the strongest momentum coming into this, poor results against Everton/Southampton in the last 4, Chelsea games are good wins but Chelsea are so so bad at the minute it might not mean much.

My concern about our form going into this match is that, yes we are on a winning streak, but its been against shite clubs. Haaland is a monster...I see Citeh turning up for this match....I'm hoping for a draw. Should be more confident but something tells me this is going to be a tough match even with the form they are in.

Our form is actually 10 league games since Casemiro became a starter where we are performing roughly on par with Arsenal and City as the best teams in the league. And it definitely hasn't been just shit teams since early October

I think ETH has a decision to make about who plays LCB. Martinez has just had one full game after the World Cup and was tormented by Haaland last time, Maguire might be okay with physical aspect but could struggle for pace, Shaw has played well but Haaland is different pedigree. It’s controversial but I would probably go with Maguire.

I never said they swept us aside. Read my posts better or don't bother replying.

KDB has said that was the prep. If you don't want to believe him then go ahead. It would be consistent with the backward logic you've used thus far.
KdB is a rival player. His word are as likely made to wind us up. Clearly shouldn't be taken as proof something isn't true.

KdB says something > it must be true is not logic.

Now you're just being pissy at everyone with a nuanced opinion.

But when city go on a winning streak against the same clubs they’re fantastic? They only beat the same teams we beat. We’ve beat arsenal and Liverpool this season. I think Liverpool beat city… so we don’t only beat the crap teams of the league.

I think if Dalot is not 100% fit I would play AWB at RB. I guess we will find out if we can outpass City in midfield if we put Eriksen, Bruno and Casimero there. A more pragmatic thing would be to sit and counter City on the break. But let's see how this goes.

A lot of our fans are giddy right now, understandably, but if recent years have taught me anything it's that it's the hope that kills.

We haven't played anyone of City's calibre on our recent run and I think we'll have a more honest appraisal of where we are once we've came out the other side of this and the Arsenal game.

I wouldn't put money on us getting a result given the gulf in difference when it comes to options, we are one injury to Rashford away from being in another crisis.

That said, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if we got a result either.

McTominay is asking to get overran in the middle because he can’t pass a football. If anything we would be better off going with Fred if he wants the extra energy

I don't think ETH will change so I expect our usual midfield. As for City Cancelo, Walker and Foden and been on the side lines since the WC (and tonight won't of helped). I hope they don't play Grealish, his best performances for City have come against us
Yeah he ripped us at Etihad in October

Easy. Score more goals than them and we will win. Dont concede any and we wont lose. Attack the space, interchanging forwards, Bruno half 10 half 9, Casemiro half 6 half 10. Bring Garnacho against tired legs.

I would go 3 signings which would be GK/RB,progressive CM and top class ST

    Current betting odds have it:
    ~22% chance of United win
    ~25% chance of Draw
    ~53% chance of City win

Probably reflects our performance over the last 11 seasons or so against them at OT (since that dreaded 1-6 defeat in 2011) - 2 wins, 2 draws, 7 defeats.

If we truly have an intention of being in the big boys league, beating City or at least pushing them to the limit is where it's going to start.

Passing the ball around is the new battering mate.
Who cares about shots and goals when you have 60% possession ? :wenger:
ha ha! They had a similar amount of shots in fairness, which leads to thinking it certainly wasn’t a “battering” by any sense, and then there’s the small issue us of scoring 3 and them 1.
