Gone for a Newcastle home victory. They haven't had that big result yet under Howe and you know what teams are like when they play us.
2-1 Newcastle, plus our play in the Norwich wasn't exactly promising.

Think we're going to be in for abit of a topsy-turvy time with Ralph this season.
If we lose against that Newcastle team then I'm not sure where we'd be at. They are fecking abysmal and even if they play well we should be playing better.

Would love to see Ronaldo and Cavani start then bring Greenwood and Rashford on when they`re done.

He's been poor but what do you mean by this?
He comes across as arrogant on the pitch. Seems to think he’s better than he is, tries do everything on his own far too often and seems to get pissed off att team mates when they do the same.

That’s just what I can think of on top if my head. I even found Nani less annoying to watch than him, and Nani could properly do your head in at times.

I really hope we move away from the 4222 today. I just don't think it will work well enough for us through the rest of the season so worry about how we will do if ralf persists with it. Its also a bit of a strange situation if ralf spends months embedding a new system that won't be used by any of the potential incoming managers
Strange post. We should move away from that formation cause you think it wont work (based on 3, 4 games or what). And it isnt a strange situation if Ralf will persist, formations are not set in stone and can change from game to game or even in a single game. What should Ralf do then, play a formation which will be used by potential incoming manager that nobody knows who it will be?

I was extremely confused and disappointed by our performance against Norwich, the lack of effort and energy was a struggle to watch. It was only a day later when I found out about the covid outbreak it all made sense. I’m excited about tonight. Basically a full squad and a bit of training with the new manager and assistant. Newcastle being bottom too, this is the time to see what Ralf can do.

Just hope we play some nice stuff. Don't know how many days have we actually trained since Ralf took over . Don't care about the results now.

Let's not kid ourselves. De Gea to save us once effin again.

3:0 win would be nice, though.

We've had a long time to prepare for this and the players should be really fresh. Will be pretty disappointing if we play like we did at Norwich. We need to start seeing some improvement in playing style and creativity. Perfect game to start showing this as Newcastle have been woeful.

If we win tonight and beat Burnley things will be looking so much better for us. Massively important we turn up and put the effort in as our quality should see us through if we do.

Be nice to send the barcodes one step closer to the Championship too.

Yes it's obviously too early to say with any certainty but my impression is that doesn't suit many of our attacking players particularly well. It also relies on our full backs to provide width when we don't have any who can regularly make telling contributions going forward a la trent. It's all to easy to see teams frustrating us by packing the centre of the park and playing a low block. I would also question why no other top team in Europe has adopted the system. It seems to suit clubs with limited resources who recruit young players with high fitness levels but can't buy top tier players.

I am not saying ralf should try and guess what formation the next manager would use but maybe spending a long time implementing an unusual system none of them will be used to could be a bad idea. The majority of big teams across Europe use a 433 variant anyway, with the odd three at the back system, so it might make more sense to utilise such a system.

Can't wait for this tonight. It seems forever ago since we played last. Been like midseason break basically. Not sure how the training has been due to the circumstances, but let's hope Ralf has got his ideas across a bit more.

Very hard to disagree with any of this unfortunately, hopefully not a sign of things to come. See Welbeck, Macheda and a few others too

Does my head in when poor Fred has to sprint past him to do the pressing work Rashford should be doing, and it's not a rare occurence.

Feels like that just wasn't happening a couple of years ago. I don't think any of us would have described Rashford as an arrogant or lazy player.

Been saying this for a while and I find it strange how Martial gets so much hate for less on the pitch.

People might argue that Rashford's got more credit in the bank than Tony but Martial was getting hate like this since the very beginning. Just one more example of double standards at the club.

I think we may be surprised by the starting line-up. Depending on who got covid and who didn’t, we may not see the same 11 he started with in the last two games.

This is generally true, but I feel more so especially tonight that they get an early goal. If we fall behind we could be in big trouble. I expect Bruno, Sancho and Ronaldo to have good games tonight !

    It's not really.

2 forwards up front requires at least 1 of them to be good at linking up or holding the ball.

Neither Ronaldo or Rashford are good at that. If anything they give the ball away more than most.

Rashford was better out wide, throwing him up top only works when counter attacking.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time

Maybe it's just my memory playing tricks on me, but I remember Rashford's workrate and willingness to do a defensive shift being a real strength of his early on. It declined a bit in 18/19 then fell off a damn cliff in 19/20 and if anything has only gotten worse since then.

At least Martial thanks the fans when he is subbed or after the game. Rashford does neither.

I had two days off when they were supposed to be playing, which should have ensured being able to watch... grrrr

Hope there is a big improvement tonight. That performance against Norwich was absolutely terrible. I'm very concerned that we're not going to get top 4 atm, Spurs look very good under Conte. We have a great run of fixtures until March. We really need to pick up as many 3 points as possible in that time. I'm not very happy with the performances of our attacking 4 under Rangnick so far but they'll probably all play again in this game. Hoping for a massive improvement in our creativity as Bruno in particular doesn't look as comfortable in a slightly wider position and hasn't created much in the 2 games under Ralf so far. Absolutely essential that we get him back to his best or we're in big trouble. Hope Hannibal gets some mins after his great performance for Tunisia in the Arab Cup.

    Predicted XI:

    De Gea

    Dalot Varane Maguire Telles

    McTominay Fred

    Fernandes Sancho

    Ronaldo Rashford

Predicted Score: Man Utd 2-0 Newcastle (Ronaldo, Sancho)

No Wan-Bissaka against Saint Maximin? Aye Caramba. Gonna have some problems there.

Soon off to the game. Hope it's not a drab game and we come back with a win. My biggest concern is the boys don't get bullied by Maximin. I'm predicting Shelvey getting sent off.

Saint-Maximum Vs Dalot will be the most important and good battle to watch out for during the game and probably the main battle United need to win in order to win the game. You know Wan-Basaka would have that on lockdown in his back pocket if he started the game (which he would under Ole) but it will be a test of how good Dalot is defensively in this game as I feel what Dalot offers going forward is important to how Rangnick plays with the narrow 4-2-2-2 the fullbacks need to provide the width. So I hope Dalot can have a good game.

the Cavani disrespect in this thread is shocking. Surely if he's fit he starts ahead of both Rashford and Greenwood? And all sources say Rangnick has a full strength team.

both Rashford and Greenwood are too selfish and not physical enough to compliment Ronaldo (one of the strikers need to be the less selfish and greedy one in order to make a strike partnership work). Ronaldo has earned the right to be the main-man and needs a Benzema-type striker to get the best out of him and Cavani is the best striker we have (right now) to compliment Ronaldo.

I can't believe we have only seen Ronaldo and Cavani start 1 game together this season which was Spurs away.. which considering Spurs just drew with Liverpool and should have beat them it makes United win even more impressive. And maybe suggests we should start them together upfront more.
Why would we be starting Cavani when he wants to leave? He might be gone by the end of January. Doesn't make any sense to make him a major focus of our team. Greenwood's the one that should be playing more.

Flashbacks to the massive win predictions before Watford, Palace, Norwich...

Hopefully a performance where we show more signs of being able to control the game and a win to go with it. 1-0 is fine.
