If Ole had won any trophy - I'd be ecstatic with this news

If Ole challenged last season to the PL and we were pipped to it - I'd be ecstatic with this news

Simple - I'm neither happy or sad of this news, he still has a lot to prove. With signings the pressure is even more so this upcoming season.

But how some are so giddy is beyond me.

He is the only manager after SAF who earned a new contract. Clearly he is making a difference, and the men in suits know it. Utd is at its most stable state since SAF retired, making progress both on and off the pitch. He deserves his new contract and support from the fans.

Hope it works out for him, but can't deny I think it's a bad move.

If we pull off the signing of Varane and a good DM, we could have truly seen if he was the man to mount our first title challenge post Fergie and if not, easily parted ways with him at the end of the season. As harsh as it sounds, it's not like he was going to get a better offer elsewhere, was he? Nothing wrong keeping our manager on his toes. It's how it should be for a club of our stature and ambitions.

Now, if we don't make any meaningful strides this season but remain in the top 4, he'll keep his job and there won't be an end in sight to our mediocrity. I know this won't go down well here, but just my honest reaction to this news.

Chelsea had an England-esque route to the final. I'm confident with that draw we could have got there as well. Chelsea had no business being in a CL final if all things were fair and equal.
Beat la Liga champions, Real Madrid, Porto(Purtugese champs?), The English champions..yeah very easy path indeed.

Well deserved. We're on the up and there's been progress every season under him. Seriously don't know what people expected him to do with the group of players he took over. Yes, we should have beaten Villareal, and we should have done better vs Leipzig but those were fine margins. This group of players is -way- better than what he took over, we play better football and it's exciting to watch United play again. Until the progress stops, the moaners can feck off.

They also think all of our players are useless including our better ones like Maguire. Best not to worry about what they think.
True. I’ve got a few city fans in my group chat. They all think Maguire, Pogba & Bruno are shit. But rate Luke Shaw. I feel like even bitters can’t deny our Luke haha.

interestingly they rate Cavani too.

I'm happy with this. It bring stability on the team. I do think if he can't bring any trophies in the next season we should start looking for a replacement.

Yes, it is a farce now. In 3 years guy won nothing (except top 4 trophy), bottled EL final where he showed how average he is and he gets new contract as rewards. Ridiculous.

We are going with him against Klopp, Pep and Tuchel this year. Yeah, that will work.
He’s got us to consecutive top 4 finishes for the first time since SAF whilst also getting us to consistant finals, upholding the traditions of the clubs and his transfer strategy and man management have been pretty much an unequivocal success.

He’s won nothing yet and therefore it’s completely fair to doubt whever he has it in him to take that next step but where without a doubt in the best position to take that step that we’ve been in for a long time and that’s mainly down to his management.

It’s not a farce for the club to give him the best possible conditions to make that transition. Because if he were to find the way and start winning things then he’d be absolutely the perfect man to manage this club long term.

HELLO
Most people won't begrudge Ole another year. The rebuild has been excellent and its reasonable to have worries about his ingame management.

Next season should be make or break though and i'd be content if that held true, but people see the contract and worry that Ole could duplicate this season and still be here for 22/23.

Jose got one after somehow duping the board.

Sorry, I meant they dropped around 15 points the time when they were playing Chelsea and were missing Trippier who is a big part of the way they play. Not to mention they had a man sent off in one of the games.

They may have won the league but they wobbled around this time. I'm not sure why beating Atleti is the pinnacle or world football now.
they’re definitely no Villarreal, that’s for sure.

Three years contract is a year too long IMO. Nevertheless, he really just has 6 months or so. Poor start to the first half will do him. With uncertainty in the midfield I think odds are stacked against him.

Waited for the Sancho announcement and the start of the Olympics to hide the Solskjaer news.

Hopefully the board now backs him.

We have a long way to go to match Klopps 600mil spent and Peps 900mil. Plus Chelsea 700mil.
Haven't the board backed him already? He has spent nearly 400m and has nothing to show in 3 years.
Are we going to spend the same amount and have another 3 trophy less years. We should be looking at Southgate before he get's snapped up by a top team.

I think the target this year should be a trophy. He had time to settle and we have backed him. This time next year would be good time to judge whether he can takes us to next level. Another year like last year is no longer acceptable in my opinion

Don’t you think he deserves some job security himself after what he’s done? Also, players like Varane and Sancho would probably want some assurances that the manager who’s been chasing them for months is going to be sticking around.
He deserves some job security, may be (Although I think managers at the top level should always have their positions on edge. It keeps their concentration tight and lights a fire under them).

As for Varane and Sancho, players join a club because of the name, stardom, popularity, salary... Managers are important, but not THAT important to a player's decision. Even Moyes could have brought in Toni Kroos if he wasn't sacked before.

defo had my doubts at the beginning then the win streak happened, new fulltime contract followed and the decline began, wanted him gone then as I didnt think he had the makings of a United manager. Fast forward a couple of years and the club is actually set up the best its ever been. Consistently getting results and latter stages of tournaments and trimming the fat from the squad. Still a bit more trimming to do with Jones, Lingard, Andreas, Bailly but the squad has a better structure and dynamic to it now after Ole was left with a difficult job when he took over.

Now?? This 350mil so far is not backing? Bloody hell. Tuchel spent zero and changed team completely in 6 months. These excuses and myths are ridiculous

Don't have privileges to post media on here. Someone kindly post that "OGS - Many Men" video.

On a serious note, don't see anything negative with this extension. It gives him respect and command with the players. Kudos to him for being our first manager to earn extension.

I'm not necessarily saying who the manager is is that important. The fact that we can still attract players like Sancho and Varane shows that, but I still think the continuity is important. They don't want to be signing 5 years of their lives away if they have no idea who they'll be working with.

A trophy would be a bonus at this point
We don't need to win anything yet, we still need some more quality and experience.
We got greate players for the future, but we still need Ole to build and strong foundation before we make a rush for the trophies. We dont want to win a trophy now and then, we need to build a team that are able to win anything and everything. The United way, the right way!

Would Tuchel have won much with this team/squad?

Ole big problem is getting rid of the dross left behind by previous managers. We have spent a lot on the squad but wasted so much pre Ole.

Tuchel inherited a lot of decent players. Ole might have inherited the likes of Shaw but he was considered a massive flop when Ole came in.

Probably originally assumed they could make the announcement after a successful EL final

They were going to announce it after the Europa final but that didn’t work out well.

Good. Ole deserves the extension based on finishing 3rd and 2nd the past two seasons. Now let's seriously compete for a EP and/or CL title.

Ive been critical of him I must say. But hopefully he gets the summer signings he wants, then there is no hiding which is good for me - I’d love him to prove me wrong. Better squad means more rotation and better results in key games, no excuses now.

Great news for Ole. Also there are some mental posts in here and they expect everyone else to stand behind their views, as it is the right thing to do, holy shit, what a obnixious bunch.

That team won EL and league cup btw. And also finished second.
My point is that here is some myth that manager must spend 500+ million and bring 10-15 new players to win something which is BS.
