Is it just his talk about 'free speech' that makes people think he is letting Trump back on?
Musks politics for the most part are ambiguous but you can be confident he is a business first conservative who is from an apartheid background. Has he ever openly supported Trump? Im not sure but I wouldnt be shocked to see cheeto jesus back on

If there's anything I hate more than billionaires owning media companies, it's corporations using social media like they're real people.

It's the worst.
Just as bad as bank adverts on the TV that portray them as some sort of friendly local community corner shop. Can’t stand it

Zero doubt that if Elon acts the fool, many will leave and a new Twitter like service will be started to gradually replace it.

He's also going to be under intense pressure to not influence the platform for fear of losing business with Tesla and SpaceX, not to mention Bezos' contention that the Chinese may wield pressure over Musk given the Tesla supply chain.

In the end, this could end up a giant headache for Musk if he opts to behave like an infantile meme lord instead of a vaguely rational owner with a coherent vision the public can buy into.
What's your basis for this though? The last time Trump was all over Twitter no one left in protest they simply spent more time there being outraged and following every single tweet of his. Just look at the Trump Presidency thread. It's packed with both centrists and leftists linking al manner of Trump tweets just to laugh/be outraged. Whatever Musk does with twitter, its not going to affect any business with Tesla and SpaceX.

I think Trump's situation was in a previous chapter of Twitter's history that many have learned /moved on from,. If Musk, as the actual owner of Twitter, begins abusing his role by enabling all kinds of unsavory behavior, I think there's a massive opportunity for a new service to emerge that offers the governance balance its users are looking for. I personally don't think Musk is going to rock the boat too much, since it would affect his other businesses, at least one of which relies on US government contracts, and the other on Chinese factories as the primary manufacturer of its vehicles.

That would be nice if it happened but I'll believe it when I see it. I think Trump created a lot of political masochists from all segments and I can see that returning if Musk simply lets him back on.

So whose DMs will he be taking a sneaky look at first?

Personally, I'm fine with it as long as he leaves the Nightclub Photos account well alone.

Christ.
This actually raises more questions than answers. Which countries censorship laws does he plan to uphold? Wil it be for whatever is the law of that land. Different standards for UK vs USA vs Saudi Arabia?

Will he start running Twitter on his own and get involved in poltics of each country.

Would be stupid and his downfall.

It’ll be the same laws that regulate Twitter now. The difference being they currently try to head of legal challenge with self regulation. He’s implying he’s willing to let things escalate and allow the courts sort it out. Which would be an insanely expensive and risky strategy.

Of course, he’s probably just talking out of his hole. He does that a lot.

Elon Musk used to come across quite a hip and modern thinking fellow. Not sure how be turned into this right wing favourite / left wing enemy and loose cannon personality.

Twitter being regulated only to the extent of the law is completely irresponsible imo. A platform like Twitter which is naturally geared towards people talking nonsense (due to how easy it is to spout nonsense when facing a monitor) needs to be regulated to set solid principles and controls. It's like a top Multinational thinking it doesn't have any obligation on the culture at its workplace (not exactly but somewhat). This place has rules not to silence free speech but not raise the level of discourse.

Yeh he’s walking back now, it’ll be the same as it is now basically. Platforms like twitter require fast moderation to avoid devolving into a complete cesspit.

He made tweak the TOS slightly but I expect Trump and the other million users banned for the same reasons are going to be disappointed.

He believes in climate change though, doesn't he? The far right won't like that.

I'm pretty sure it's already like that? At least in theory, every service that is targeted at Norwegians has to follow Norwegian law, for example (in most cases Norwegian law is quite similar to EU law). I would assume it's the same for the UK, for example.
