Scream 2022

I was not expecting much and that what I got, basically a rehash of the previous films.
3/4 of it was OK , decent slasher film, plenty of bodies and blood, you knew exactly wat to expect.
The last 1/4 was just daft, it was like they wanted to make a horror comedy, it was pure slapstick.
The killer/ killers revel was seen a mile off.
If you like the others, you will like this.

Has anyone watched The Woman King? I’m about a third of the way through it right now and really struggling to get into it because the accents are so atrocious. I constantly hear spatterings of English or American breaking through. Viola Davis, who is typically great at her craft, can’t get through two sentences with a consistent take on her accent. And I’m wondering what’s the point? If they weren’t speaking subtitled Fon, just let them speak in their natural accents so it doesn’t sound like a bad parody. Hopefully I can get past this and enjoy the movie, because the constant reminders they are actors is ruining my immersion in the narrative.

Edit: Well, I made it through. Genuinely perplexed how this is so highly rated. It was decent ish but I had several gripes with it. First obviously the accents were appalling. Second, the believability of these elite warriors just wasn’t convincing at all. Their “training” seemed limited and basic, and the big final test was walking through some thorns and over a ladder. Hardly Sparta. When it came to the action sequences, aside from a couple of very obviously skilled stunt doubles, everything was clearly just sped up and didn’t look particularly great. Then there was the ridiculous arm fracture reset scene. I also didn’t think many or any of them looked like warriors. The idea was, I presume, that they live and breathe their training, yet many of them looked remarkably well fed, and very few looked particularly athletic. This is very far from a body shaming critique, but in a movie about dedicated elite warriors, I’d expect to see some impressive physiques - which there just weren’t. It ruined the immersion somewhat.

There were some decent scenes. It wasn’t horrible but it was also really far from what I expected given the reviews.

A history movie about being confined by suppressed trauma that comes in the form of a creepy smile. I really enjoyed this. Was really fun, the characters weren't thick, good acting and a really inventive jump scare that I'll remember for a good while. Wish I saw this at the cinema 7.5/10

Smile was quite boring, very predictable, and while the theme was not entirely uninteresting, it was eventually poorly handled. Also, the acting, main character aside, was very weak. Not awful, but entirely forgettable.

I cant remember Smile at all. I dont remember it being bad but I think the trailer left more of an impression than the film.
I'd probably have better things to say about it if i didn't see it about 3 days before Barbarian but it was too by the numbers to stand out next to that.

The Burning

A former summer camp caretaker, horribly burned from a prank gone wrong, lurks around an upstate New York summer camp bent on killing the teenagers responsible for his disfigurement.
A proper 80's slasher film, not seen on in ages and TBH this was not on of the better ones.
It was slow, for a slasher the body count was low, in single figures and the ending was bad.
Just a bad Friday 13th

what’s generally considered the best version? I watched Redux and thought the second playmate scene was a bit odd and unnecessary and the French plantation scene was was too long.

I’ve only seen the Redux version. An astonishing film.

You should check out the other homages to the original work as well (Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad), such as Pixar’s Up, and Ad Astra.

Have you watched the documentary made about how they made the film? They were absolutely out of their minds and living a version of the French plantation scene for a year. Although there are some great diversions in the extended formats, please see the original theatrical version. Still top 10 greatest films ever made.

Coincidentally I worked down the hall from one of the playmates in that film, Colleen Camp. Couldn’t reconcile the 1970s version of her with The version in her 70s.

I thought about it.

I think theres been about 5 different cuts of Apocalypse Now over the years. I have no idea which ones had which scenes at this point. I think the original cut is probably the best movie, but i think its an interesting enough movie that everything they cut and everything related to it is interesting too. Watch whatever version is available i'd say.

I didn't like Redux. I love the original and really enjoyed the recent Final Cut.

Yeah agree. I see it as the same as the blade runner cuts, there’s just so much good stuff that it doesn’t matter what version of the film you are watching.

Also they are really vibe films and the plot takes second place.

One of those films that I'm jealous you got to discover for the first time. It's absolutely jaw dropping film making, probably one of my top 3 films of all time.

The recent Final Cut is very very good. Expands on some of the stuff that is too short in the original version, and doesn't meander as much as the Redux, although I'll always have a soft spot for the Redux version, it's how I saw it for the first time.

The Northman 2022 5/10 movie 10/10 visuals.

Glad I waited until this premiered on Sky. Found it a bit crap and confusing but visually very stunning.

Second time watching it and still don't love it. The first two thirds are really fun but once Krampus' little helpers are introduced, it quickly goes from frightening to silly. Still a decent Xmas movie though 6/10

Has anyone watched The Banshees of Inisherin yet? It is written and directed by the man who did In Bruges, and reunites the stars of that film, Brendan Gleeson and Neil Morrisey Colin Farell.

I must admit, I was expecting something slightly different, maybe a bit more lighthearted perhaps. It was the kind of film I'd have been raving about in my younger years, I think, and while it was good, I'm not sure it's something I'd want to return to.

The actual plot is very simple, in that a man, living on an island offthe coast of Ireland in the 1920s goes round to visit his friend only to find he no longer responds to him and he tries to understand why and how, or even if, he can repair their relationship. This question is something I thought would take up the majority of the film, but it's actually answered very quickly. The bulk of the picture explores how this plays out, and it does so in frequently very funny and occassionaly very violent ways. The main themes are the nature of conflict and escalation and the value of art, friendship and kindness.

I'd rate it 8/10

I really liked it and it took me a good while to shake of the melancholy it left.

Wrath Of Man
Jason Statham action movie directed by Guy Ritchie. Was really fun. Lots of action and the narrative was told/information presented in a fun way that's not expected of these kinds of films. I had a blast with it 7/10

you should think about doing a x-mas special round (say one day). Would like some recommendations about Christmas movies to get into the mood..

Krampus, the German one? Just saw half of it sometime ago, funny enough I never read that book just knew it was lying around in all my friends places as a kiddo.
